Check out the latest rumor about Senator Thad Cochran. Erick Erickson posted this on his website:
The big rumor in Mississippi is that Senator Thad Cochran will step down due to this health. According to the buzz in Mississippi, Mitch McConnell had Cochran flown to Washington on a government plane for votes. Governor Bryant is having conversations about appointing Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves to the position.
Sources who have knowledge of the situation tell me the Republicans want this issue resolved quickly so that it does not hang over Senator Wicker’s head as he potentially faces a primary challenge. Post.
Um, yeah. This post is wrong on several levels. Have fun in the comments.

Gee, that's funny. I've never seen garbage eat garbage before...
Interesting crap from the second best crap master (not ssme as a bass master) - second only of course to Bannon and Brietbart's crap
Wonder if anybody has consulted with Cochran to discuss his pending 'resignation'.? Of course in the red state world of "news" that little detail doesnt matter.
Its better than a Clinton showing you your suicide note..
Their is as much truth to this as the Trump/Kelly explaination of the phone callto the guys widow. Lies Lies
3:57 throwing out Superman II quotes, love it.
Anybody but the Democrat Gregg Harper.
Hmm. That would get Reeves out of the way for governor race. Where can Reeves do the least harm.
Perhaps Phil will appoint himself Huey Long style.
Is this just a repeat of the article one of McDaniel's cohorts posted earlier this week ?
If offered Reeves would be a fool not to take the gig though it will be amusing to watch him go from budget hawk to Haley's cheap pork trick.
I have voted for Thad any chance I could. He's a fine man and a true Statesmen and has been good for MS.
That said, as much respect as I still have for him, it's no secret that his health is not great, and he may very well step down before the end of his present term. But who knows if or when right now.
That leads me to my question. Assuming this to be true and the Governor appoints Tate to the position, who will the Republicans now run for the next Governor ? And why would this issue hang over Roger Wicker's head ? If the Gov appoints Tate, Wicker still faces a possible challenge from McDaniel.
Make no mistake, I am no fan of McDaniel at all. He's a narcissistic egomaniac who is dangerous in many ways. His "take no prisoners", refuse to compromise position is dangerous and accomplishes absolutely nothing. Any respect MS's past Senators have earned our State will be totally lost. Ironically, McDaniel says he wants to destroy the establishment and have the alt-right take over, but yet if that happens, his alt-right group will then become the "establishment" he so despises.
Governor, please, I'm begging you, do not even consider appointing McDaniel if Thad was to resign. It may make Wicker's re-election easier if he has no challenger, but yet, as stated above, it would be horrible for MS's future.
One option...Thad waits until after Wicker's election to resign. If Wicker was to lose which is unlikely I hope, then the Gov could reappoint Wicker. If Wicker win,s then the Gov could appoint Tate or anyone else (other than McDaniel) he wants.

So you give more credibility to that cowgirl with room temp IQ than you do John Kelly? Wow.
The logic of Tate only made sense when Phil wasn’t a lame duck and wanted to deal with Burton. Now that the Governor will be buying his own groceries at Piggly Wiggly very soon he is totally irrelevant. That’s why he’s hanging on to the JPS declaration. Just trying to look important for the cameras. I’d look for him to take a job in the Administration and appoint Harper should Cochran resign which unless there is a dire health issue, He wiLL NOT!!
Thad wants Mike Espy to be appointed
Surely you can’t be serious?
I’m serious…and don’t call me Shirley
Wow, the Democrats jumped, with great spin, on this idea with the gusto of a bird on a june bug. What's up? If they had been quiet, I would not suspect anything. Reeves would be an excellent Senator. Hmmmm.......
Please appoint Bill Billingsley before he strokes out over wanting so badly to be in politics. But, that makes about as much sense as Bryant appointing Tater, now doesn't it?
Bryant wants so desperately to become head of some sort of worldwide opiod task force or some education Czarina something or other that carries with it a three hundred thousand dollar salary with an airplane and his own hair-dresser and boot-polisher. Give it a rest, Feel, and let the process work itself out. Thad's wife has not ordered the carnations yet.
Will the Senate put a little box under the podium for Tater to stand on so the other Senators can see him when he speaks?
5:34 really, she sounds a lot more a lot more rational to me too!
5:25, consider this. If the RINOs in the MS GOP had not talked their democrat buddies into crossing over and voting for Thad, Chris McDaniel would be our senator now. Thad is nothing but a RINO. He sold his soul to the leftists.
The McDaniel people were right. Cochran would run to resign and let his successor be appointed. McDaniel should be appointed.
This could very well end up with Thad resigning, Governor Bryant appointing himself to the seat (as he is termed out as Governor and has no where else to go politically), allowing the Lt. Governor, Tate Reaves, to become Governor early. Therefore, Tate would then run as an incumbent Governor in the next election.
We all know that Phil Bryant isn't the best friend of Hayley Barbour. However, the Barbour clan would most likely be good with this deal as he would benefit their golden child, Tate Reaves, in his desire to become the next Governor. The Governor's seat is more important to the Establishment Republicans in Mississippi than the Junior Senator seat in D.C.
11:03 posted the same question I had -- can Bryant appoint himself?
Yes, the Governor can appoint anyone he chooses, as long as they meet the criteria to serve as a United States Senator, even himself.
Bryant's ego seems to be unbridled of late.
The way you accomplish having Bryant go to Washington is for him to step aside as Governor, making Tate Reeves Governor. At that point, upon assuming the office, Governor Reeves would appoint Bryant for Cochran's seat. Simple and effective.
@211 please explain. An “unbridled ego” is not a fault I’d give to Bryant.
Any one of the three stories Bryant, Tater or McDaniel, wouldn't last a week in DC.
"@211 please explain. An “unbridled ego” is not a fault I’d give to Bryant."
Where the hell have you been? Well, other than polishing his boots? He appears in a self aggrandizing ad or photo op almost every day using the word "I" at least four times. He flashes clips of himself sitting at round-tables with important people or photo-opping with people he thinks are important. He brags on himself and his wife and what they're doing for the peons of the state. Please count the 'Debra and I' comments and photos that the media has subjected us to in the past two years. He continues to remind us of his board and committee and other insignificant appointments he serves on. He takes every opportunity to tell us how fortunate we are that he has appointed this or that person to serve out an unexpired term or appointment to some position or other and he reminds us it is HE who has made us fortunate. He shows up in a leather vest on somebody's motorcycle or his own Chevy Nomad after he has made damned sure the camera crews will be there. And you think he's not 'ego driven'?
All Fordice did was mind his own bidness, take a few trips up 55 to Memphis and threaten to whip Bert's ass. Kirk rode a motorcycle too but didn't call the press when he got aboard.
My vote is for BUSTER BAILEY he will fit right in with all the graft and corruption that goes on in Washington.
"BAILEY FOR SENATOR"
October 21, 2017 at 6:53 AM, I am so sick of you. Do you just copy and paste this every chance you get??? "If the RINOs in the MS GOP had not talked their democrat buddies into crossing over and voting for Thad, Chris McDaniel would be our senator now. Thad is nothing but a RINO. He sold his soul to the leftists."
You and yours don't get to redefine REPUBLICAN. A statesman like Senator Cochran, who has voted to represent and support his entire constituency, will receive a broad base of support. There was no "crossing over". We do not register by party in Mississippi, and voters may choose per primary cycle, in which primary they choose to vote. What are "leftists" anyway? Go start your own party.
