Jackson Mayor John Horhn issued the following statement.
Jackson residents,
Our city is hurting. In recent days, we have seen a troubling rise in gun-related violence, shootings, and senseless loss of life. No family should have to face the pain of losing a loved one to violence. Violence against the innocent is intolerable, and as your Mayor, I will not accept this as the norm for our community.
We are taking this seriously. I have been in coordination with Chief Brackney and our public safety team. We will deploy additional resources to address immediate concerns. The Jackson Police Department has achieved an 85 percent clearance rate in solving homicides, a testament to their dedication. But we know it does not bring back the lives lost or heal the pain families are carrying. Most of these crimes are not random and that is why we must go beyond enforcement and place a stronger focus on prevention, addressing the root causes of violence before it begins.
Enforcement alone is not enough. Over the next few days, we will present a plan that brings together law enforcement, community leaders, violence prevention experts, mental health professionals, our faith community, and leaders from communities that are impacted the most by these crime.
We will continue to focus on investing more in our young people, expanding opportunities, and addressing the underlying conditions that contribute to crime.
This behavior is a bad stain on all the good that is going on in our communities. We will not accept violence as a way of life in Jackson. We are going to confront this head-on and do the work necessary to make our city safer.

root causes.... right.
“Our city if hurting”. What an understatement.
This is pathetic. Keep this message from him and file it.
Take it out in three years and see if things have gotten better or worse.
Crime in Jackson has rotted a once nice place and all this guy can do is offer platitudes. Jackson leadership is a joke, just like “Dr Chief”.
Awful city that’s just getting worse.
It’s the culture.
How to put a dent in crime 101......arrest the person(s) and the judge ACTUALLY putting the person in jail. What a concept.
Bull Horhn needs hands-on tough enforcement:
Curfew, Road Blocks and SSAFE:
Stop, Search And Frisk Effectively. Many of these crimes are committed with stolen guns, stolen cars, repeat offenders who were lectured and released to offend again.
Road blocks and searches should occur in high crime zones on a surprise basis. Make it a crime to evade/escape a roadblock.
Then Mayor Bull Horhn can crow to the moon with news video of arrests and evidence.
This is the problem: "over the next few days , we will present a plan, blah, blah, blah, this expert, that pastor, the professional... Mr. Mayor we passed that point 30 years ago. Have the intelligence to recognize that you can change Jackson but it cannot come from within. It must come from outside. Be the man that makes a change of biblical proportion. Please.
More of the same ineffective handwringing. Just won’t accept that the only thing thugs understand is enforcement
More Traffic stops, stop and frisk, enforced curfews, fully prosecute discharge of firearms...less community meetings and press releases, press conferences which do nothing. Thanks for nothing mayor. Keep up the good work.
I haven’t heard anything about gangs in Jackson lately.
"Jackson has no gangs." (Chowke, 2022)
I haven’t heard anything come out of the Dr.-Chiefs mouth about anything during the last few weeks.
As long as Hinds County voters keep electing soft on crime judges, nothing is going to change.
I was wrong.
I just saw the Doctor-Chief babbling goofy word salad about the baby murder.
Perhaps Ben Crump can leave Senatobia for a few days and drive down 55 to Jackson ?
Been a busy last few days for Mayor Horhn. When he wasn’t soft-pedaling the rotten culture over which he presides, he was in federal court regurgitating the trope that the legislature is filled with racists. New Mayor, same as the old Mayor.
You know, we can laugh at his goofy hat and personality, but there is one man that plans to deal with this crap directly, and that man is Andy Gipson. Nobody else is man enough to get it fixed that’s gonna run for gov.
