A confidential informant claimed he paid Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes protection money of sorts, a claim Mr. Stokes called "Bullshit."
A federal grand jury indicted Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, Mayor Lumumba, and City Councilman Aaron Banks on public corruption charges in 2023. Former Councilwoman Angelique Lee and insurance mogul Marve Smith pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit bribery in 2023 as well.
Owens filed a motion to dismiss with a supporting memorandum and 47 exhibits Monday in U.S. District Court. The Justice Department almost immediately asked U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan, III to seal the filing the same day, claiming it violated a protective order.
Judge Jordan granted the request and sealed the filings the next day but not before most of the local media downloaded the motion and the supporting exhibits.
One exhibit included some allegations against the Mayor and Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth I. Stokes.
The reports contain unverfied information received from confidential informants. One of the informants was none other than Jackson's problem child, Tonarri Moore, currently serving a federal prison sentence of four years. The reports did not include any conclusions or investigations by the FBI so in other words, the talk is just that, talk.
Mr. Stokes was not too happy and did not take the allegations lying down. He said:
Bullshit! From our research, it points to Tonarri Moore as the informant. He claims to own property in my ward. The property he owned is what we would call trap houses. Property where they launder money, sells drugs, and has prostitution.
He never met with Kenneth Stokes. He has never given Kenneth Stokes a penny. He's never had a relationship with Kenneth Stokes. I think it's important to protect my name so we've associated lawyers. We're going to try to get a judgment that says what he says is true or not true.
The informant made certain allegations against Mayor Lumumba. The 2017 campaign finance reports do not mention a $30,000 donation. The maximum donation was $20,000.
As stated earlier, the claims are unconfirmed and appear in raw FBI reports from confidential informants so take them for what they are worth.

And claiming the property the possible informant owned/owns was/is nothing but "trap houses" doesn't really aid in Kenneff's defense. So it's proceeds from illegal enterprise financing the grift and not legitimate income. Ooookay.

This is the reality. you get a lot of these white boomers who say democrats are soft on crime because of some conspiracy to win votes. No, it is a conspiracy to get rich. All of the criminals pay protection money to operate. Protection money and insider trading are how all politicians get rich.
