Governor Tate Reeves issued the following update on storm damage.
Approximately 128,500 are without power. This number could still fluctuate as utility companies work to restore power.
The Greenville Fire Department is reporting that 10 people were injured when a canopy above gas pumps collapsed. Per GFD, the 10 individuals were transported to the hospital for major and minor injuries. This would bring the total number of people injured as a result of the severe winter weather to 13 statewide.
68 warming centers are open in 35 counties.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation is beginning to make a lot of progress on removing ice and snow from roads, especially in North Mississippi and the Delta.
The state of Mississippi remains in contact with local emergency managers and is continuing to deploy resources. 40 counties have submitted 212 requests for assistance. We have requested additional water (10 truckloads), meals (2 truckloads), blankets (2 truckloads), and cots (2 truckloads) from FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Three heaters have been installed in Rest Haven Nursing Home in Ripley. 26 generators have been deployed across the state. The generators are being used at warming centers, water systems, a long-term care facility, personal care homes, a fueling station, and two correctional facilities (Greenwood and Parchman).
The Mississippi National Guard is using aircraft to deliver commodities – a mission is underway to Alcorn County. Additionally, the Mississippi National Guard is supporting ground delivery operations.
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing tonight. Stay off the roads and stay safe, Mississippi!

Deisel burning generators somehow stunk up the Ridgeland Walmart last night. Smelled like a thousand skunks were smoking a thousand marlboros. I ran another errand tonight and the stink was gone. Possibly the Ridgeland FD got involved?

OMG!
He actually say the word!
I don't believe ICE has come to Mississippi. Steven Miller would get his quota of 3000 per day.
The reference apparently is to this official guidance which has apparently been complied with by Tate and others : "The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reportedly urged the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to avoid using the word “ice” in winter weather warnings amid the ongoing controversy surrounding federal ICE agents."

Disasters seem to follow Tate around. But at least it gives him a chance to try out new vests.
I want to commend the Oxford mayor. She has done an outstanding job communicating to her community even though they may or may not be able to view her social posts. I am not at all tied to the area, but I do want to give her praise on a job well done. Perhaps she can teach our Governor and Mayor what a job well done means.
Oxford mayors crisis playbook:
1. Panic over 0.25" of sleet
2. Prop up in warm home not in Oxford
3. FB post about gratitude
4. Declare success
All applause, no event.
Hookah: "Panic over 0.25" of sleet"
Uh, I am not sure how good of a job Robyn is doing. I have heard excellent to fair. But let me say it is NOT 0.25" of sleet there or many places in the Delta. It is more like 2" of freezing rain, which has caused a massive disaster for all of those folks. Some of the people in the rural areas will be waiting weeks instead of days to get their power restored. There are still over 120,000 of your fellow Mississippians doing without power, so I would be careful mocking their and her panic .May God bless everyone restoring power, water, and gas, along with those clearing roads and rescuing people and helping people recover.
