On January 30, 2026, shortly after 2 p.m., officers with the Madison Police Department encountered a white 2017 Dodge Challenger with a Mississippi license plate. Surrounding agencies had been requested to be on the lookout for this vehicle related to other crimes in the area. The Madison officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which was occupied by two black males, on Old Canton Road near Ridgecrest Drive.
The Challenger stopped at the entrance to Hite Walcott Park, and when officers approached the vehicle, the Challenger accelerated into the path of oncoming traffic. Before the officer was able to clear himself from the path of the vehicle, the officer then fired his service weapon while removing himself from the vehicle’s path. The Challenger then sped away before being blocked in by other responding units. The Challenger came to a final rest before entering Highway 51 and McLellan Drive, and both occupants were taken into custody without further incident.
A Madison officer was injured during the arrest of both suspects and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. During the arrest of both suspects, a firearm was discovered in the front right pocket of the passenger, and another firearm was located in the driver’s floorboard.
Due to the officer-involved shooting, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, as well as the Ridgeland Police Department, responded to the scene to conduct their own independent investigation. During the course of the investigation, investigators with the Madison Police Department were able to determine that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Helena, Alabama.
The driver was identified as Dunta Demon Palmer, age 30, of Jackson, MS, and the passenger was identified as Darrius Jerrell Palmer, age 24, of Jackson, MS. Both suspects were transported to local hospitals, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Once they are released from the hospital, both suspects will be transported to the Madison Police Department for booking.
Dunta Demon Palmer is being charged with felony fleeing, felony receiving stolen property, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Darrius Jerrell Palmer is being charged with receiving stolen property. More charges are expected after the completion of the investigation. After being booked in, both suspects will be transported to the Madison County Detention Center as they await their initial appearance in the City of Madison Municipal Court. Their cases will be forwarded to the Madison/Rankin District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Kingfish note: The car was stolen.
A Hinds County grand jury indicted Dunta for armed robbery in 2021. He was allowed to enter a pre-trial diversion program.
Dunta Palmer is the son of Derrick Coleman. Coleman was the husband of Latasha Coleman. The word "was" was used because Latasha Crump Coleman disappeared 2 1/2 years ago. Derrick was a suspect in her disappearance. She is feared to be dead. Earlier post.
Derrick Coleman was killed in a shootout on McDowell Road in July 2024. However, the Coleman family violence does not end with Derrick or Dunta.
Dunta has a half-brother, Ladarien Tyrese Jones. Sound familiar? Jones is charged with the murder of Hinds County Deputy James Dotson last year. A Hinds County grand jury indicted Jones for first-degree murder in 2018 but Jones received a blessing. Earlier post.
The case was continued for no less than six years until Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten issued a directed verdict for acquittal to Jones before the case could go to the jury in February 2024.

Two thugs packing heat in a stolen Challenger. What could possibly go wrong?
Book 'em Danno.
Another mostly peaceful pair of 2nd Amendment supporting millennials inspired by the late Ms. Good while playing Grand Theft Auto IRL. Why did the officer have to shoot? Couldn’t he have stopped for a moment and asked the two yutes to hold hands with him and join in singing “Lean on Me”. Fire him, dox him, It’s all Mary’s fault.
What he Dunta deserve being shot at and throwed in jail?
So the guys middle name is actually “Demon”? Probably pronounced “d-moan” but still. WTF.
BigMama told them fools to not leave Hinds County. Naw they didn’t listen!
If they were in a nice Honda or Volkswagen they would not be stopped. But naw these idoits were driving a Challenger, windows with illegal tint, tag covered, no insurance and radio blasting. If they jumped out the car to run from police, they would not get far because they would be holding their pants up because of no belt! Now wonder these fools were stopped and easily apprehended!
Are they from Jackson?
Read the press release. Word for word. We don't do welfare on this site.
Now I need a hip hop version of “Just some good ole boys
Never meanin’ no harm…”
Just don’t leave the keys in your Charger
I'm sorry the two thugs just had non life threatening injuries.
