The Mississippi Power and Light Company issued the following update on power restoration.
Entergy Mississippi crews are making progress assessing damage and restoring power to customers who were left without power after severe winter weather, including freezing rain and ice, entered the service area over the weekend.
Road conditions, failing limbs, access, local temperatures and terrain are factors impacting crews as they work to restore power. As of Monday, Jan. 26, crews are expected to have damage assessments nearly complete by Thursday, Jan. 29.
Customers in Entergy Mississippi’s service area are expected to have power restored by the following dates:
- Tuesday, Jan. 27: Natchez and Senatobia
- Wednesday, Jan. 28: Clinton and Madison
- Thursday, Jan. 29: Vicksburg and Lexington
- Friday, Jan. 30: Cleveland, Greenville and Indianola
- Sunday, Feb. 1: Grenada
Please note that these estimates are subject to change as we complete our assessments and continue with restoration work in the affected areas.
As of 2:30 p.m. today, approximately 52,000 customers remain without power, down from a peak of approximately 67,670 outages. Over the course of the storm and restoration, there have been about 80,000 individual outages in Mississippi and we have restored about 28,000 customers to date.
Damage in our service area is significant, affecting both our transmission and distribution systems. We have already restored service to four transmission lines and 17 substations. The ice and falling limbs are also affecting our distribution system. As of noon today, we have identified 234 broken poles and 971 spans – or 50 miles – of wire down, as well as 35 damaged transformers and 107 broken cross arms. We expect to find more damage as our assessment continues.
Entergy Mississippi reminds customers if they live in a neighborhood that has had power restored but don’t have power at their home, they likely have electrical damage. If a customer is without power, they should check for damage to the electrical equipment attached to their home or business and contact an electrician to make repairs. For information about a home’s electrical equipment, visit www.entergy.com/
If electric equipment appears undamaged, text OUT to 36778 or call 1-800-9OUTAGE (1-800-968-8243). If damage has been repaired by a qualified electrician, call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) to generate a service reconnection work order.
Entergy Mississippi began restoring power to customers as safely and quickly as possible after the winter storm passed. Our crews, along with mutual assistance contractors, will continue working around the clock until all power is restored.
