A bit of fun for ESPN rowdy Pat McAfee turned Mary Kate Cornett's freshman year at Ole Miss into a nightmare after he ran with some YikYak gossip on his show. After going through hell for several weeks, the young woman is discarding the powder puff and bringing out the bulldozer* as she prepares to fight back.

The Athletic reported:
It is Feb. 26, and “The Pat McAfee Show” is filming in Indianapolis the week of the NFL Scouting Combine. McAfee sits behind a desk. Before him is an arc of chairs, occupied by a few of what he describes as his “stooges” and a featured guest: Adam Schefter, ESPN’s NFL insider. Schefter’s presence and the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine logo behind the chairs seemingly previews the day’s subject matter. However, McAfee has a different topic on his mind. He teases the subject, asking Schefter: “Have you heard about Ole Miss?” One of his cohorts says, “There is a ménage à trois …” that, McAfee adds, “has really captivated the internet.” After some more buildup, McAfee dives in. “Some Ole Miss frat bro, k? Had a K-D (Kappa Delta) girlfriend,” McAfee says, and then he stresses the word “allegedly.” “At this exact moment, this is what is being reported by … everybody on the internet: Dad had sex with son’s girlfriend.” Another person on set chimes in – “Not great” – and then McAfee adds: “And then it was made public … that’s the absolute worst-case situation.” Schefter, looking befuddled and uncomfortable in the chair closest to McAfee, tries to redirect the conversation: “So where is (Ole Miss quarterback) Jaxson Dart in all this?” McAfee never names the 18-year-old college freshman at the center of the rumor, but he jokes about shoehorning Ole Miss fathers into NFL Draft analysis — “We’re just wondering. His dad … We’re just trying to combine evaluate …” Then another person on set interjects: “Ole Miss dads are slinging meat right now.”
Cornett's life quickly went to hell.
Five weeks ago, she was a first-year business major dating another Ole Miss student. Happy. Confident. Outgoing. Then her idyllic freshman experience was pierced on Feb. 25 when a spurious claim about her and her boyfriend’s father spread on YikYak, an anonymous message-based app popular among college students. It then gained traction on X and collided with the sports talk ecosystem to become a top trending topic that day. Many posts featured a picture of Cornett pulled from her Instagram account. “When the more popular people started posting, that’s when it really, really changed,” Cornett said, adding that they brought legitimacy to “something completely false.”Then the crazies started having fun.
Houston police showed up to her mother’s house, guns drawn, in the early hours of Feb. 27, in an apparent instance of “swatting” – when someone falsely reports a crime in hopes of dispatching emergency responders to a residence. According to security camera footage and a police report reviewed by The Athletic, the homicide division responded to the call. After her phone number was posted online, Cornett’s voicemail was filled with degrading messages. In one, a man laughs as he says that she’s been a “naughty girl” and cheerfully asks her to give him a call. Another male caller says that he has a son, too, in case she’s interested. Several people texted her obscene messages, calling her a “whore” and a “slut” and advised her to kill herself.
Cornett engaged legal representation and said she intends to take action against McAfee and ESPN, which airs his show, and potentially others involved in spreading the rumor. “I would like people to be held accountable for what they’ve done,” she said. “You’re ruining my life by talking about it on your show for nothing but attention, but here I am staying up until 5 in the morning, every night, throwing up, not eating because I’m so anxious about what’s going to happen for the rest of my life.” “They don’t think it matters, because they don’t know who I am and they think that I deserve it,” Cornett said. “But I don’t.” Added Uddin: “They elevated a lie from the worst corners of (X) to millions of general sports fans just to get a few more clicks and ultimately a few more dollars. While they don’t have to deal with it after it airs, the lie is chained to Mary Kate for the rest of her life.”Needless to say, life sucks for the young coed.
In recent weeks, Cornett has remained mostly holed up in her room. She no longer dines at her sorority house or the student union. On the rare occasion she goes out, she wears sunglasses and a hat. “I (can’t) even walk on campus without people taking pictures of me or screaming my name or saying super vulgar, disgusting things to me,” she said.
Her family has the means to afford high-priced lawyer. It is almost a certainty a lawsuit will soon be filed. Rest of article.
* Apologies to the late Maryln Schwartz who authored The Southern Belle Primer. She defined a Southern Bell as a bulldozer disguised as a powder puff.

bulldozer disguised as a powder puff----fantastic line.
I hope they go after anyone who spread the lies. At some point, folks need to just grow up.
Give them hell.
"Young Cornett may be but none too young to stand up for herself."
I suggest that you replace the words "may be but" with "is not". She seems like a perfectly decent young adult and your current verbiage is inappropriate.
You go girl!
1. Comments were floated on social media and elsewhere.
2. Some people believe the comments and others think they're rumors or false.
3. Accused denies and threatens lawsuit.
4. No comment from the accused father of the young man.
5. So far, those are the facts and the extent of the story.
I always knew there was something wrong with that guy. Decent people can't possibly be that annoying. She should pull a Frank Melton and put him on a billboard.
All of the online chat spreading this garbage and the way this young lady is being treated on campus is just further confirmation of the doctrine of the total depravity of man.
Destroying lives as entertainment - money judgments and criminal prosecutions are the only things that can stop it.
Swatting was becoming quite a sport several years ago, until young guys started getting multiple years in prison for it.
Amazing how women are always simultaneously empowered and victims. With zero expectations for accountability for their actions. It is always someone else’s fault!
I am favored of God to have met and married a lovely grad of Ole Miss. Our sons all have her good looks, high IQ and sweet disposition. This young woman deserves a generous settlement and a lot of apologies, asap.
Good Lord have the ole Missus' turned out for this blog in favor for the Princess "Look at Me!!! Oh, but not like that!".
Lesson1:
Stay off of Social Media to cure your Narcissism young lady. Sheesh.
I’m confused. Why aren’t the father, son, and this lady all joint plaintiffs?
Good for her. Bury that piece of human filth and drive him into bankruptcy. He has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
"Have you heard about Ole Miss?" The story is really about privilege, frat boy favoritism, and hypocrisy and Ole Miss is the perfect target. The unfortunate young lady just happened to be collateral damage...nothing personal. It's really not so much about her, it's about Ole Miss. The rest of the nation will buy any story like that about Ole Miss. It's part of the Ole Miss legacy. Sorry but it's fact.
It's a school that has attracted social media narcissists like almost no other. (I'm looking at you, Alabama.) Hardly surprising that salacious allegations about those types then caught fire and "went viral," "started trending," etc., etc.
The entire place is built on image over substance. It's as much of a facade as Madison's pseudo-Greek architecture. Fifty-five percent of their students are from out of state, and 70% of freshmen were from out of state last year. Their average ACT score is 25 and SAT is 1100. Those kids aren't going to Oxford for an education.
2:21, Paraphrasing your comment, it's about envy and jealousy, which is a story as old as mankind.
I agree with that.
"Young Cornett may be but none too young to stand up for herself."
"May be" WHAT, KF?
3:41 It's the "flagship" institution of Mississippi. But we changed our flag. It'll take the rest of the country a while to realize we've changed at all since 1960. So they still like to point the finger. Is that what this was about? ESPN?
The Pat McAfee Show and Barstool Sports provide forums for sports-gambling bros to gather together in packs, get drunk and keep each other from growing up.
It's only natural they would also talk shit about girls.
3:41, I believe that what you would have been trying to say (were you to become articulate, or come to know anything about anything), is that Ole Miss has become a magnet for underachievers pretending to be Old Money (but who possess NEITHER money NOR background - or impulse control... or a moral compass).
As for Madison's "pseudo-Greek" architecture, I'll relate my personal horror story about that. We hired a cheap firm to design a retail building in Madison. The little yutz Architect sent by that firm, to a meeting with Madison's powers, began lecturing the Madison folk about Ancient Greece and "purity" and all - like Madisonians were new to the concept. When he ran out of steam, someone with the city, tutto sotto voce (flatly, with well-modulated sarcasm) said, "We already know about the Ancient Greece."
I'd thought the design produced for us was a bit anal-retentive. But I was a novice at financing these things, and the Developer "shepherding us" - from one of Jackson's Carpetbagger dynasties (big Ole Miss "boosters", by the way)- told me this would get approved.
The "Greek" angle for the building, was news, to me. I'd just thought it looked sad. I'd recently been praised for pronouncing 'Bulgari' "like the original Greek". Well... I quickly switched to the Roman way of saying it, since the store I was shopping was in Milan.
And the night after that disastrous meeting with the city, I learned the differences between Greek and Roman styles. The Greeks were ASHAMED of arches, and only used them for basements and sewers. Their thinking tended to be inflexible in a lot of other ways, too. Romans, on the other hand, did great things with arches. Arches are THEMATIC for Madison, as are columns - not the cheap-looking "Lumberyard Doric" (Dorians were the most culturally-inflexible of all the Greeks, by the way).
Jackson ABOUNDS with 'Pseuo Greek'. How have you missed this? What do you think all those dinky Greek Revival Saltbox Colonials are, in Belhaven? What do you think the (Mount Vernon knockoff) Fairview Inn is?
Anyway, as the city graciously explained to ME (and not the yutz or the Carpetbagger), Madison's stylistic target-range is Neo-Roman/Italianate/Italian Mannerist - which is basically Paris/Rome/Mainstream America Retail c.1900.
We built something fancy, like Madison wanted, and our only regret is that the parking lot is too small: it stays PACKED.
"pretending to be Old Money (but who possess NEITHER money NOR background - or impulse control... or a moral compass)"
I think that would Texas money from oil or concrete, or both.
@9:01 Point well taken! (Whatever it is.)
Ah...9:01. Please reread your own post and tell us WTF you just said.
Being clever comes naturally to the clever among us. I don't think you even tried.
Sad that some people make everything into pro or anti Ole Miss.
Back in the basement soy boi....too much reading for you. You need 20 second TikToks to explain things obviously.
As long as this girl's father subsidizes whatever legal case he thinks he can afford before he tells her, "Honey, it's over. Just let it go". She had better realized that her "life" has been self-ruined. Behavior has consequences.
Some of y’all seem to be missing the point. Either this is a rumor about something that never happened, or it did. At that point the disgusting person in this whole thing is the father, and his life is the one that should be ruined, not this girl.
This young lady is collateral damage to the overall environment created by the viral aspects of social media and the mainstream media not being held accountable for reporting unverified information. She should have no problem getting a significant settlement, and in the meantime should be looking at other schools to attend.
The suit will be on a contingency fee basis, meaning the father will not be out of pocket for a large sum to bring the case. Likely, McAfee and ESPN will settle for a considerable amount to end the bad publicity for McAfee, who looks like a complete fool (frequently so). What I don’t get is why there are idiots blaming the girl for being smeared by frat boys and then McAfee. I hope she finds out who started this nonsense and outs them so they can learn there are consequences for such things.
@9:55 - She'll get even more of a settlement if she drops out of Ole Miss and convinces a jury that her journey to educational excellence was ruined.
Women, especially teenage girls can be very vicious and a common tactic is telling lies about those they consider " competition" ( for a boy or in a social group). Indeed, some girls will use their parents as vehicles to spread rumors. They do it in the workplace. Too many centuries of women having very little sanctioned power and authority.
9:01, as Rick James said, “Cocaine is a helluva drug” but try not to post under the influence of it.
The only way to find out what really happened and who did it is through discovery in a civil action and/or a criminal investigation. I recommend both.
If whomever started this gets away with it, they'll probably do it again. McAfee gave national juice to in Internet smear campaign for cheap thrills. I hope he gets hammered for it.
No. I meant for it to sound that way.
10:29: You should have seen the comments I didn't approve. They were pretty bad.
Extortion for Barstool Dude giving their cherished pie a 7.
The only thing 'Pseudo Greek' in Madison, is the little chapel in Strawberry Park (originally an antebellum plantation office, built from the sort of standard plans itinerant carpenters carried around with them. At the time, 'Greek Revival' was the big thing), unless you consider little 1960s "fine brick dream homes", in the 'Pre-Mary' parts of town, to be 'Pseudo Greek'. Pseudo-Colonial home designs continued the traditions of 'Pseudo-Greek' architecture (the ugly "Dog House Gables', the pointlessly-boxed-in soffits, the cheap-looking Lumberyard Doric columns, and the dreary Colonial 6-panel 'Bible Doors').
'Pseudo-Greek' is REPRESSED and DEPRESSED. It's sad, and it's PLAIN. Does any of that sound like Madison, to you?
But then, if MY founding "granddad" had jumped off the train at Jackson, escaped into the Pearl River Swamps, made his fortune running booze and brothels during the 'Gold Coast' days (see Jackson Jambalaya archives...), then crawled up the bluff with bags of ill-gotten lucre, to establish a Savings & Loan in Jackson, I'd be wanting the respectability conferred by a fine Pseudo-Greek "Colonial" on Colonial Circle. I'd take politicians to lunch at Mayflower Cafe, for crooked deals. My posterity would therefore be termed 'Mayflower Descendants', and (being total dumbasses) would head off to Ole Miss, to become prominent frats, suzies, and boosters. Where ELSE could they become prominent ANYTHING?
But back to this thread's actual subject. The young lady, even if she IS a Kappa Delta, deserves respect. I would remind certain persons that Public Obscenity is a punishable offense, and that screaming obscene insults at people, in public, constitutes ASSAULT, and all of this is probably documented (cameras are everywhere, these days). Those harassing the young lady, should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I'm all for Internet Anonymity and VPNs. However, if someone NAMES those using their computers/phones for terrorizing the young lady, their devices can be confiscated and searched (at which point, various FEDERAL laws can come into play).
@10:29 There are people who have the knowledge and the means to find out where the posts originated. If the girl's father hires some of these people, whoever initiated this sordid story will have major legal problems.
I stopped watching College Game Day because of McAfee. About 5 seconds of his mouth is all I can take.
So many incels are angry that slut shaming is no longer a widely sanctioned sport.
Maybe they will see this sort of behavior as a problem when it happens to their daughters.
McAfee is so annoying. Maybe they'll replace him on Gameday now.
Doesn't speak well of UM that she is harassed there as well
That McAfee was ever hired for Gameday tells me what ESPN thinks of its audience.
Well, that plus the ESPN gambling app.
I suspect he has already done just that. I hope he is successful.
And why was she in any way at fault?
It's curious that neither the ex-boyfriend nor his daddy have offered comment.
