Nature's fury knows no equals and what took place last night in Clinton was no exception.
A large tree fell into a ditch by Maudideth Lane last night. Unfortunately for a sewer pipe downstream, the water flowed high and fast, fast enough catapult the tree into the pipe, rupturing the sewer line. Sewage spewed forth as the tree slammed into another sewer pipe further downstream. Fortunately, the pipe held.
It was all hands on deck at the Clinton public works department as it quickly jumped on the emergency. Workers managed to turn off the pipe and the tree was soon removed from the tree. Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher said a new pipe will be installed tomorrow.

Wait a minute. I thought only Jackson dumped raw sewage into their waterways.
As Fisher said, this will be fixed by Monday.
The State will not have to step in.
The Feds will not have to take over.
There will be zero pressers blaming the "White Man" for a weather related event.
Imagine that... a public works department and city that just does their job. What a novel idea.
I grew up on Maudedith, Lane. The road from our house to Downtown Clinton was a lot shorter if one walked across that pipe shown in the last photo, so I probably walked that pipe a hundred times. Never fell off back then from the pipe to the muck in the bottom of the ditch was about ten feet, so it was better to not slip off the pipe. If it was a slow day, we had BB gun wars in the double concrete culverts also shown in that photo. We usually shot for a face hit, since they really hurt. Never shot out anyone's eye and I have no idea how that bever happened. There were four of us and we were all pretty good shots with a BB gun. Killed a three-foot log water moccasin with my BB gun one day after we had been going at our war in the ditch and culverts for almost an hour. Dumb snake should have crawled away. He would have lived longer.
I know I’m not the only one who has noticed hundreds or maybe thousands of dead trees along our roadways. I suppose we just wait for them to all fall down? I
We? See a problem then get to work. You know what to do, so just do it. Who you waiting on?
If it was Jackson, it would take a month to fix, not a day. Unless it was near LaMumble's house.
"If it was Jackson, it would take a month to fix, not a day." I think you're being overly generous with your repair timeline.
"Workers managed to turn off the pipe and the tree was soon removed from the tree."
FREE THE TREE!
FREE THE TREE!
FREE THE TREE!
But turn off the raw boo boo by any means necessary first.
The boo-boo pipe has a boo boo.
6:37, are you saying a dude with a chain saw should clear all of these dead pines in the highway ROW’s? Yeah, just what I want to see.
Here it is Tuesday and nothing has been done as of yet. It’s a mess!!
