He was arrested for the shooting death of Timothy Byrd, which he supposedly tried to claim was self-inflicted.
Oh man I hope they put this racist piece of excrement in with the general population.
Rednecks will redneck.
Sadly Ricky shot himself eight times. This was the worst case of suicide in Yazoo City in recent memory.
yazoo chapter of the goon squad.
Maybe the 8 bullet casings on the floor were a clue that this wasn't a suicide.
Mississippi urgently needs comprehensive law enforcement reform.
What them Yazooans get up to now?
280 pounds, do officers not have any physical requirements?
He’s one million percent innocent.
They definately need to conduct thorough pre-employment background investigations and establish physical condition standards. Many of them couldn't pursue a tortoise in a foot chase.
Yazoo PD is on par with a PD in Venezuela or Mexico and Nicaragua or...maybe.
Where was he a Chief of Police?
It wasn't Tennessee was it?
Reading comprehension FAILURE.
No one here seems to understand what “Ex-“ means.
Some reports say deputies arrested him while others say US marshals. Did they both arrest him?
The Marshal's task force is made up of deputy U.S. Marshals and local officers, who are sworn in as "special deputy U.S. marshals."
"Bullet casings" is the correct description, though the MSM and other ignorants (including on here) use "shell casings," which specifically refers to shotgun ammo.
Winstead was police chief for less than a year, August 2020-April 2021. Apparently he and the mayor didn’t get along and he resigned.
Rankin SO will hire him to start up a replacement goon squad.
What aggravating factor made this murder capital?
He was hired in Yazoo City. The mayor did not support the hire and did not vote for him. Hiring was led by two aldermen. The 2 called a special call meeting. All 4 aldermen voted yea. Mayor voted no for reasons known to all aldermen who voted yea.
Wow, talk about a walking stereotype.

Actually, no. The correct term would be cartridge cases. "Bullet casings" are not a thing - in spite of widespread misuse even in the gun industry - but the closest item meeting that description would probably be bullet jackets.
I lot of really great pulp stories written by Mississippi authors seem to include evil and corrupt sheriffs.
