What will happen tonight? Can Octavian recover from his shellacking two weeks ago? What will happen in Canton tonight? Will the Republicans steal Jackson? And what does all this have to do with Gasoline Alley? Tune in below for election night results.
9:15: Time to check in on Canton. Taylor leads Walker 1,326 votes to 1,278 votes. Affidavit ballots still must be counted. Absentees and machine votes are in the bag.
The Ice House is getting pretty chilly right now.
Watching Horhn's election night party. Damn, where are the white folks? I thought he was a creature of the Republicans.
8:51 PM: Funny. Othor Cain has turned off the comments on his live stream. By the way Othor, you might want to think twice about going back to Bravo for some drinking.
8:44 PM: This race is over. Horhn demolishes Lumumba 74% - 26%. Yes, you are reading that correctly. The actual votes are 14,693 - 5,168. 86% of the vote is counted.
This is a complete repudiation of Chokwe Antar Lumumba by the citizens of Jackson across the board. Period.
Meanwhile, Kenny Gee extends his lead over Wilfred Beal to 77 votes to 43 votes, 64% - 36%, in the Republican primary.
The Ward 7 race for the Democratic nomination for City Council is over with 87% of the vote counted. Kevin Parkinson leads Quint Withers 55%-45%.
8:35 PM: 66% of the vote is in and the ass-kicking continues as Horhn increases his lead over Lumumba 72.4% 27.6%. The actual vote totals tell the story: 10,168 to 3,868. The Mayor is toast.
Still no votes counted in Canton.
8:22 PM: 51% of the vote is counted and...... Horhn continues to obliterate Lumumba 71%-29%. 6,604 votes - 2,684 votes. The Mayor is not coming back on this one. The only question will be can Horhn hold this lead. A 70-30 win would demolish the Lumumba crowd and send a strong message of rejection by all of Jackson.
8:17 PM: 45% of vote counted.
Horhn: 71%, 6,200 votes
Lumumba: 29% , 2,483 votes
Hizzoner is done. That is a huge lead and the Mayor would really have to outperform Horhn in the remaining 55% of the vote. Not happening.
Oh yes, there is a GOP primary tonight. 51% of the vote is in and.... drum roll.... Wilfred Beal leads Kenny Gee by all of ONE vote, 24-23. Great turnout.
Mid-Town Charter School Principle Kevin Parkinson is winning the Democratic primary runoff by 64%-36% over Quint Withers. 60% of the vote is counted so Parkinson of Running a Red Light fame will probably face Ron Arledge in the general election.
No results in Canton are available but never fear, Barbara Blackmon played poll watcher today. Seriously.

Na Na Na Na Hey Hey-ey Goodbye
Ecstatic Jacksonians have rejected the nepotistic, corrupt administration. Fingers crossed, the new mayor will clean up the mess and stop the chaos and killings. It's a big job, but can't imagine any way it could be worse that what the last 8 years have produced.
“Here Comes the Sun…” Brighter days ahead for The City of Jackson, Mississippi!!!
Barbara Blackmon is the joke. God help the City of Canton.
Good riddance, and take Rukia with you back to Detroit
Oh no.
Anyway, moving on...
As Curly Bill Brocous said, "Well...bye."
Anyone have a fork?
I think this is about done!
Even Ray Charles could see this defeat on the way.
And he's blind!
Praise the lord above, today is the real liberation day for us in Jackson! Never been so happy for an election result in my life. The tyranny is over!
What was that dumbass doing at Bravo?
@8:47
Detroit has a white mayor and billionaire Dan Gilbert has completely rebuilt Detroit so Chokwe has no clout or power there any longer. Get with the times. Chokwe actually accused Detroit or major gentrification and pushing poor people out.
Thank you, Jackson, for coming out today and showing that arrogant little jackhole the door. Next stop for Chockway, the federal pen!
Othor at Bravo? Doesn’t sound right! Why would jeff allow him to write bad checks knowing it’s his favorite past time. Othor really is an idiot. I hope I never see his ass in my city again.
Fondren-ite here. I am fucking giddy.
I said months ago it didn’t matter who ran against Lamumba, he would walk away with 70 percent of the vote. I was wrong, and woefully yet happily so. I look for better things in Jackson.
Just don’t say “Right” at the end of every sentence,
that shit drives me crazy …..
Shock-way to blame his loss on “ the man” in concession comments
Wiki suggest there are about 5,300 graves in the Greenwood Cemetery in downtown Jackson, so there's still about 1,000 deranged voters amongst us!
Whassup?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuvvI6wNw7I
I predict a guilty plea within 48 hours.
I gladly awaiting the wailing and gnashing of teeth tomorrow.
If Horhn decides to open the books and perform a full audit, shithead may be facing more than federal time. Bet he ain't comfortable in his thoughts right now.
15 excuses from Chowke in 3, 2, 1...
Head to the airport where Chockwe may be fleeing. Maybe Sp. Agent Patrick Sanford can meet him too! lol Ask Donna Adelson. Seriously congrats Horhn
PTL!
City of Jackson was still missing several years of audits last time I checked.
Chokwe and his merry band of incompetents were probably too busy covering things up to get them done.
Time for a new auditor now that there's a new sheriff in town.
.
Now the mayor has more time to be his own attorney as he gets ready to beat the federal charges.

ONE HOUR LEFT, Jackson! Have you VOTED LUMUMBA TODAY?! Stand with us for the future of our great city! #VOTELumumba #loveJackson #whenwestandtogetherwewin 🗳️

Please let me have the job of chiseling Antards name off the sign at the airport! We should have a sign removal party. Bring your coolers and hammers.
I’m thrilled with this outcome. That said, there are almost 6,000 dum dums that wanted to keep the criminal.
I hope everyone is catching Lumumba’s tears on WAPT right now.
Woke up at 3 am in another county but prayed for COJ citizens and God heard our prayers! Thank you Jesus!
Chicago would be a great landing spot for Lumumba’s exile.
One city......couple of side chicks...
Even assuming say 4000 white people voted in this runoff and all of them voted for John Horhn, Horhn still took 70% of the African America vote. As KF noted, even his fellow African Americans undeniably repudiated him and voted him out. Othor, Danyelle, Sophia, etc, whitey and the Republicans didn’t steal this election. The majority of African Americans disagreed with you and voted him out. Your opinions no longer matter, and you have lost all credibility. Good bye.
Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty we are free at last!
@9:47
I’d say in NE Jackson prob about 6,000 white voters. Ward 7 large white turnout also it seems.
That speech was pitiful.
Terry Lovelace ran out of Chockwe’s party, cranked his Mercedes and made a B-line for Horhn’s party. Checkbook hangin out the pocket. Clowns.
@9:23 - get with the times, with the facts. You seem to be falling into the Chockwe/Aaron school of operation, blaming the Auditor for the audits not being done on time.
The City didn't engage an auditor until eight months into the new fiscal year; and the city has not provided the auditor with the information needed to conduct an audit.
Hiring a different auditor to change the results is ignoring the problem - no auditor can conduct and complete an audit until the client provides the information. The auditor is not the 'finance department' of the city - which is where the problem lies. What little exists of a finance department or operation is just as incompetent as the rest of this administration's governance.
I haven't got a dog in the race for who is the city's auditor; nor do I care. But it appears to me that whoever is under contract to provide that service to the city deserves special medals for the conditions under which they are asked to work. (I'm sure they are getting paid handsomely, but still, some things can't be paid enough for one to have to endure the pain.)
But while I'm on this thread, congratulations to Hohrn. Hopefully he has made some kind of plans on how to actually do the job rather than just want it - assuming, of course, that he survives a challenge in June by DePriest.
Granted, getting rid of Lumumba is a great day; now I want to hear from the candidates (Hohrn and DePriest) how they plan to straighten out the mess that one of them will inherit.
Watching is concession speech the looks when he turns to his bride and talks about being grateful for her forgiveness. IYKYK…then he goes about his out of town trips….get this clown out of here
DePriest doesn't have a chance.
Barbara Blackmon will be drinking a lot of wine tomorrow for lunch at Char after that defeat. She won’t be grossly milking the Canton anymore being the CMU board attorney and the school board and city attorney positions she was plotting on getting. I hope that this is a valuable lesson for Ms. Walker.
At the end of Lumumba’s watch party…”Happy sailors, dancing on a sinking ship…”
Please do the right thing and close the zoo. For the animals sake and most humane action, show us you care. Just remember, you will still have your hands full trying to run Jackson, MS, the biggest zoo of the South.
Let us pray that we do not endure "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" (like Trump's administration is turning out to be). Jackson will become Mogadishu.
6:12 AM beat me to it praying Jackson does not endure "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss” (No clue though how anyone could think Trump is like Biden, even with TDS being a serious mental issue that shuts off the mind’s logical thinking process).
Horhn only has to deal with Jackson’s out of control rampant crime to become a true hero. Young totally unqualified fool Chokwe Antar Lumumba seriously overplayed the Democrat Party tactic of using crime to keep Independent and Republican voters out - in order to make Jackson a one party city forever.
Dead children should be the line in the sand. Horhn, Bennie and Tate should get together and fix this out of control crime disaster of a city, with no political strings attached.
Lastly, thanks so much to Kingfish for relentlessly staying on Lumumba! We tend to grow so tired of the same disturbing issue(s) that over time we slowly just accept the insanity as normal. But Kingfish via JJ never wavered and stayed the course. You sir deserve a lot of the credit for last nights victory over Lumumba!
Bye, Felicia.
Unburdened….by what has been
Technically there's two things he needs to tackle: Crime and Street paving. Priorities 1 and 2 respectively. With that said there are still indications that Horhn will still champion things that Lumumba championed: The zoo, controlling the water (https://www.wlbt.com/2025/04/18/john-horhn-jxn-water-jackson-airport-his-plans-if-hes-elected/), etc. The only real difference will the Horhn didn't ACTIVELY sabotage Jackson. He'll just sabotage it through idiocy and unrealistic expectations.
None of this is to say to be pessimistic, but after the 30 year parade of shitty governance, gird your expectations.
.....and the Titanic's new captain is _ _ _ _ _
Just call Lumumba “DRUM”. Because he was beaten like a Drum. He was drummed out of office.
No Lumumba will be under burden of all his assets when he goes to trial. He will be broke after the trial regardless of the verdict and the sentence. He will then be “Unburdened”.
One plus for Shock-Way-- he won't have to buy any new clothes.
Time for Horhn to start revealing his plan - and not just say he will be better than Lumumba - something that is really not too difficult. Also was sickening how Lumumba used his children as part of his conciliation speech to appear to be "the good family man". Everyone in Jackson knows he and wife are not and have not been together in years. Ready for Jackson to move forward!! I do not live there but I work there so yes, I DO have a dog in the hunt...........as does anyone who lives in the Metro area.
I am so happy that Lumumba was defeated. And 6:59 am is correct about the hard work Kingfish has done covering everything and exposing so much for so many years.
Horhn has a tough road ahead. The million dollar question, for me, is will be be another Lumumba and screw stuff up OR will he actually work hard for ALL Jacksonians and put things right. Only time will tell.
Thanks to Ashby Foote for changing to Independent. Could have allowed some to vote in the mayor election. Hope Ashby wins his election
Only an overwhelming conviction of Lamumba and Owens can serve to prevent ingrained corruption from continuing. Lamumba will spend his remaining months in office using city money to taint the jury pool in the affected federal district. Fried Catfish dinners, obfuscating in front of church congregations, more pre-recorded propaganda on the airport public address system, Rukia's bouncing belly brigades shouting in front of the Governor's Mansion, etc.
Lamumba will spend his remaining months in office using city money to taint the jury pool in the affected federal district.
The pool draws from15+ counties if memory serves correctly so good luck with that.
Also was sickening how Lumumba used his children as part of his conciliation speech to appear to be "the good family man". Everyone in Jackson knows he and wife are not and have not been together in years.
It was disgusting.
But Kingfish via JJ never wavered and stayed the course. You sir deserve a lot of the credit for last nights victory over Lumumba!
Kingfish is the most important journalist in the State of Mississippi.
He just lost any ability he had to raise money for his defense.
Agree 100%
Why can't it be turned into a nice park? I mean, it has to cost way more if there are animals to take care of.
Looking for LIKE button.....
I'm delighted Horhn won. My family and I voted for him. I hope everyone will give him a chance to succeed. The problems you want solved will not be solved immediately. They will not be solved with the citizens in Jackson working against one another for political party advantage. They will not be solved without bothering to be informed about the issues or with constant competition for limited resources, control and tax money from the county and the State. Nor is constant criticism helpful. IF you have a better solution or idea, share it. One of the reasons I voted against Lumumba, is he thought being as negative and angry as those who opposed him was the best strategy. He became his own worst enemy. What I hope Horhn is better suited to persuade others to be helpful and be clear about what he needs from them and us to and why. There are good roads projects in much of Jackson that are not seen by many...like in Belhaven.
And, please, let's not pretend there hasn't been a concerted effort to isolate Jackson and for the state and county to take over. Let's not pretend that some of what the state has done , particularly on state owned property in Jackson is beyond tacky and ignores the need for visual barriers so nearby neighborhoods are not adversely affected. The state has not given the city or neighborhoods the laws/tools needed to make sure neglectful property owners and absentee landlords are held accountable. It shouldn't take years for homeowner associations with limited funds to get eyesores torn down. Our codes and covenants laws need to be strengthened and the process streamlined without resulting in the early silliest Madison experienced some of their older neighborhoods.
I hope everyone will give our new mayor a chance. I hope some of you will be more realistic about what mayors can and cannot do on their own. And, make no mistake, I voted for Horhn.
Watch for damage on the way out.
I received a federal juror notice postcard last week, Southern District of Mississippi, which covers Jackson south to the Coast. I live in south Mississippi, near Hattiesburg. What are the odds the jury pool will come from Hattiesburg/Pine Belt and the case will be heard in Hattiesburg? Based on the postcard the jury selection could be a couple of months from now.
Othor
Please show up to chat or bravo. I can’t wait to see you. Ppl will be so welcoming to you. Just show up. Please!!!
Yes - 100% scorched earth.
Yeah, I got that same postcard. The one with the non-existent 9 digit code above my name I was supposed to enter online. Then I got another postcard apologizing for the first postcard without the 9 digit number. Honestly. How does that happen?
@10:56 AM wipe that brown off ya nose cuz ya boy is a gossip blogger
Surely Kim Wade can't be thinking he will get any votes in the Mayors' race. He's always putting one race of folks down. He's just another Steven from DJango. Go sit down somewhere !
And what gossip is that?
"@10:56 AM wipe that brown off ya nose cuz ya boy is a gossip blogger"
Ahhh........Kingfish Derangement Syndrome
I definitely agree! I second that motion.
Oh there are plenty of voters who intend to move from John Horhn and vote for Wade and DePriest in the general. I am not one of them. Horhn all the way!
@10:24am Nope the Jury is the 5th circuit Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas they won't just be from here just like all the fed vehicles had Texas tags
3:43, as a good and dutiful citizen I searched the first federal juror postcard I received for the nine-digit number to no avail. Then the “oops” second postcard arrived with the nine-digit number. Is it too much to think that one person, somewhere in the federal government, had one job, and failed?
@6:59pm Trump is not Biden, but what the people voted for to happen - is NOT happening. So, it appears that perhaps Trump and his entire administration - like Biden's - are compromised.
Are you familiar with the process required for nonoccupied owner property or property tax defaulted to the state to become eligible for demolition? It can easily take 3-4 years. And then the city must have funds for demolition & a plan for maintaining the vacant lot while attempting to find a purchaser.
GOOD RIDDANCE. ENJOY THE FEDS, Lil Chocky
On a side note, as much as I despise CAL and what he has wrought on Jackson, his wife/daughters should be off limits. They have surely suffered enough and until he drew the kids in out of desperation to use them on election day, they have not participated in his actions as far as I know. Hoping he ends up in jail or takes himself somewhere far, far away so that they don't have to tolerate any more of his using them as shills. Honestly makes me sad, but I'm OTT happy for the city.
Antar should be pleased. His re-election results were much better than Lynn Chaney's results.
What will lyin lumumba do on his way out to keep his pockets full?
This is not relevant to the post but the error was the printer's. Your tax-dollars were not used for the apology.
