State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested William Clark, former Sardis Fire Department Secretary/Treasurer, for allegedly submitting fraudulent invoices to the City of Sardis.
Clark submitted inflated emergency response numbers in order to receive payments to which he was not entitled.
“We will continue to hold the line on misuse of your tax dollars, big or small,” said State Auditor Shad White. “This is why we’ve been able to recover more money in the last six years than any other six-year period in the history of the Auditor’s office.”
Clark faces up to 10 years in prison and $5,000 in fines if convicted. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office online at any time by clicking the red button on the Auditor’s website or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.

Sardis this week, Batesville last week, next it'll be Strayhorn, Crowder, or Coldwater. That area is literally the armpit of the state.
Only $1,999,009.69 left to recover to get that misapppropriated $2M back.
If the city approved the fraudulent payments why was the auditors office involved. Just let the grand jury of said county indict him!
Again, small politically powerless people. Glad he was caught but the corruption in Rankin County dwarfs this dollar amount. But Rankin is a republican stronghold and Shad will not go near it. Dean Scott and the former mayor of Richland stole far more than this guy, Shad investigated and knows it but refuses to do anything about it. By knowing it and not doing anything about it makes Shad an accomplice. I will keep saying it; until Shad shows that he will prosecute anyone who steals government money, then he is just another politician who just wants to get elected. We must do better. He will never get my vote again.
Leave it to Shad to pick the low hanging fruit, the little guy…again.
And the Hinds County DA talks of misusing money in the DA’s office. Then the FBI recovers money matched to payments to him from CIs. Shad is nowhere to be found.
He should go after the county supervisors in North Mississippi who are buying tens of millions of cars and trucks from a family of car dealers.
6:54 for today's win. Shad just goes after the minnows.
6:54...yep. And Scott is now making over 80k now at Capitol Police adding to his PERS high four after Sean Tindell hired him with full knowledge of the auditor's probe.
Why is the state attorney general trying to protect Brett Farr? Is it because he’s rich? Would she do the same thing if was poor?
I hope he runs for state attorney general
So should the state attorney general
8:25 call them minnows if you want, but the law doesn't say you can steal as long as you don't steal much. Some of you seem to think that's how it works.
Strawberries and blackberries are mighty fine low hanging fruit.
They are small too.
Then there's anchovies and smelt. Mighty fine and small too.
11:43, call 911. You are having a stroke.
Shad didn't "get em." Someone called in a tip to his tip line.
@5:56
The Shad hate is strong with you.
This dude was indicted by a local grand jury after the Auditor's office investigated and determined he submitted fake information. That's how it always works.
7:58 for the win! He position and his ego are over inflated. Just wait till he has to actually run a full blown campaign to stay in office . He’s gonna get a rude backwoods Mississippi awakening
