Trees, lights, presents, parties, all manifest what Christmas is today. While reciting how the Christmas holiday came to be, the late Dr. Frank Pollard lamented the trivialization of Christmas. How a celebration of hope and mercy was forgotten while a celebration of things arose. However, it doesn't have to be this way. Enjoy Dr. Pollard's December 15, 1996 sermon posted below as he discusses the real meaning of Christmas.
Scripture: Luke 1: 46-50
(NIV) 46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
(KJV) 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
