Ag Commish Announces Aid for Hog Control

Mississippi Ag Commish Andrew Gipson issued the following statement.

Today, Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson announced that the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) is offering a cost share opportunity to Mississippi private land managers that are battling wild hogs on their property. The cost-share opportunity was made possible by a time-limited, federal appropriation to MDAC for expansion and support for its Wild Hog Control Program. The most effective equipment used for the trapping of wild hogs will be the focus of this effort to remove these nuisance animals from private lands across the state.

Through the cost share program, MDAC will provide technical guidance and monetary assistance for the most effective equipment and methods to trap wild hogs on private lands across Mississippi. “Our goal is to provide one complete, remotely triggered trap for applicants within limits of the federal appropriation,” said Commissioner Gipson. “This type of trap has been vital to the success of our existing Wild Hog Control Program which began in 2020. In addition to complete trap systems, trap components such as cameras, gates and panels will be eligible for funding.”

The cost share application period will remain open Monday, July 17, through Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Private landowners and leaseholders in Mississippi will be eligible to apply. Applications will be evaluated and ranked by MDAC based on property use, past and current wild hog damage, past trapping efforts and the type of trapping equipment requested. For selected applications, MDAC will reimburse the landowner or leaseholder for a percentage of the cost for purchasing trapping equipment. Reimbursement payments will be provided on a 50 percent cost share basis and will be the lessor of either 50 percent of the applicant’s expenditure or a maximum of $5,000.

Visit www.mdac.ms.gov/whcp/costshare to submit an application and to learn more about the cost share program.

how does cowboy Andy work a banner with his face on it for the Hog traps?

Traps are boring.

Hog control via helicopters, belt-feds, and nightvision would get a lot more participation.

This reduction in wild hogs will surely alleviate traffic conditions in Starkville.

You better believe Andy would call in the choppers if he could.

''cost share'' and ''federal appropriation ''...........all just fake terms for federal money .

mr andy just can't bring himself to admit that he's part of the 3nd world country called mississippi that does nothing except sit at the doorstep of washington d c and beg for money.

12:48 PM, look for a hog adoption event in the Fondren.

@2:05 PM - Wouldn’t doubt it…sounds plausible. This is 12:48 PM - I went to the website of MDHC and found that the trapped hogs must be killed, then either buried or processed.

This is funny because the same people (MWFP) who are spending all this state and federal money are the same ones who brought these pigs in early 80’s to create a new hunting option. They would give you two sows and a bore to release on your property.

MS feral hogs are too diseased to touch.

???
Well, that's something I've never heard.
Any sources to back that up ?

I've always heard the current hog problem is a cross between escaped domestic hogs that bred with the offspring of Hernando de Soto's hogs that escaped during his 1540's road trip through the magnolia state.

It does no good to waste this money when the feds will not trap the hogs on their land. This is a complete and total waste of time and money.

Pigs are smart. Can the Ag Commisioner teach them to eat Kudzu?

Old (MS & AL) story is traveling salesman walked a long dirt road up to the farmer's place, and saw a pitiful pig pulling itself along with two front legs, it's back legs missing.

Asked the farmer about the pig and farmer exclaimed as how the pig saved his son from drowning and, later, dove deep into mud to dig his tractor out. Said most gracious unselfish pig ever lived.

Salesman pleaded, but why'd he lose his back legs? Farmer says I only smoked two hams off that hero , you just don't eat a pig like that all at oncet!

Why only this trap?
The pig brig is a much cheaper and better trap, and you don’t have to get up at night to see when to trigger.

What happened to the four arrested for importing and selling wild hogs?

Did they get the catch and release treatment?

I checked that out, will it hold up? Every video I've seen is of hogs going crazy when someone drives up, those hogs seemed pretty calm.

We participated in this program last year. An agent dropped off a pig brig trap that sat all summer and only caught one pig. We typically catch 40-50 per summer in homemade cage traps. If you participate in the program the agent will not allow you to use your own traps and then tries to sell you the trap that they used on your property.

Wild Hog control, like the control of flying carp, is the bailiwick of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. The Department has sponsored the influx of BOTH, yet gives not a rat's ass about the eradication of either.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
