Stokesradio Returns

Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes returned to the radio this morning on WOAD.  The legendary Councilman began the show in prayer as he thanked God for his blessings.  Mr. Stokes discussed his recent bout with Covid and then of course, moved on to discussing Jackson's water. Money quote: "They about to get $600 to $800 million dollars. You know they about to steal it" as he pushed for a new water plant.  He closed by talking about the upcoming Martin Luther King parade.

I'm afraid Mr. Stokes behavior for decades outweighs his new "vision" as a conservative " darling".
He's burned his bridges with every skin color in Jackson long ago.

@12:50 AM - I tend to agree. His "throw rocks at the cops" rhetoric in the past tells it all.

Anonymous said...

Is he complaining that the $600-800 million will be stolen because he isn't included in the skullduggery? It takes one to know one.

You know Jackson is doomed when Kenneth Stokes has become the voice of reason.

I am white and live in Ne Jackson and I happen to like stokes. I’m not a fan of his quote about throw rocks however. He is a score t lately and Chokwe is pushing for a new water plant when many are going to be of the Jackson water system soon. Bryam and milsaps are the recent ones named
No need for a new water plant our stupid ass mayor is corrupt as he is incompetent

Comments here confirm Stokes is over the target. All-in and all disagreements considered he's done far more for, and far less damage to, Jackson than Mayor Narcissist.

Stokes is really just a pretty example of how many African-Americans are "waking up" to the complete BS that both Dems and Repubs are pulling... and getting away with - even at the local level. But yes, he's got too much baggage to claim legitimacy as a voice.

It was refreshing to hear Stokes back on air today. I have missed him.

Speaking of MLK, he would be saddened indeed to witness the antics and 'government' of Lumumba...and for that matter, of Stokes.

Stokes was a clown fifteen years ago and is a clown today. Don't be fooled by the costume change.

I'll donate a hundred bucks to the zoo if 1:50 is a resident of N/E Jackson. LOL

If, in 3 to 5 years, we don’t see the water situation nearing a complete resolution…and if folks are asking where the money went…then Stokes will have been correct in his prediction. Somebody has the opportunity to prove him wrong. We will see.

1:50 - I am white and live in S. Jackson. I agree with you 100%. Stokes has been a horse's rear-end in the past, but in the past 4 or 5 years he has been a voice of reason on the city council. If he ran for mayor I would vote for him in a heartbeat.

People never give him credit for being one of the best retail politicians around. He gets re-elected year after year with close to 80% of the vote in his district. Why? He works hard for his district and delivers results. There is a very good reason that his constituents love him. All you have to do is drive around NW Jackson and you will see newly paved roads, new healthcare facilities, new schools.

Before Stokes it was a community with zero government maintenance. Today, a bunch of wonderful things are happening, including new stores and commercial/industrial investments.

The typical JJ reader wouldn't know this due to their pre-conceived notions and their refusal to investigate if the world has changed from 30 years ago, which was the last time they were in NW Jackson.

He is the most likely candidate to beat Lumumba in the next election.

To give ANYONE access to that much money is in my honest opinion a travesty to taxpayers. If there is not oversight then there will be a lot of stealing and the DHS issue will be small compared to what’s about to happen.

Anonymous said...

I'd vote for him too. I can't believe I said that, but he has more common sense than the Mayor and actually cares about solving the issues of Jackson whereas the Mayor cares about the next press conference or next trip to some woke conference.

@3:10
This is 1:50 here. I’m white and a resident of NE Jackson live a few houses down from Delbert in NE Jackson so sure go ahead keep your betting money but yes I live in ne Jackson. Not sure what your comment was aiming for.

Stokes is well known for saying what his constituents want to hear.
He's much smarter than many think.

Don't believe he's had some kind of conversion to a
different political philosophy.

Sure, there's no doubt he's never been in Antar's circle from the
start ... but I don't think he cares one way or the other.
I think all of his actions are well calculated to hold his seat on the City Council.

Please tell me that Stokes will run against Lumumba.

3:57 - say what you want, support who you want. But don't blow smoke up my rear end by telling me how much Stokes 'has delivered for his ward'. I've been through it many times, recently; and there aren't any new stores, commercial/industrial, or much of anything else. Your defining NW Jackson as Stokes ward is part of the stretch; but you still must be seeing things in your delusion.

Streets? What streets in Stokes' ward have been repaved, except for the work on Medgar Evers. New schools - the city council doesn't have a damn thing to do with that - JPS and a bond issue are the source, but I don't find any in Stokes' ward. And I'll be damned if you can find a new healthcare facility in his ward.

So, like him if you want. Support him (or anybody) over our current Mayor. But trying to sell me that Stokes has delivered for his ward is like saying Benny Thompson has done a damn thing for the 2nd Congressional District during his thirty years on the federal teat.

Standing By said...

I won't ask 3:57 to tell us what 'results' Stokes has delivered. Saying things we might like is not results.

But I would like for 1:50 pm to translate this: "He is a score t lately and Chokwe is pushing for a new water plant when many are going to be of the Jackson water system soon".

" "They about to get $600 to $800 million dollars. You know they about to steal it" Well said Mr. Stokes. OoRah

I'm white, I live in Jackson, and yes, I've driven in west Jackson recently. I actually have friends who aren't white.
I', @12:50.
I agree deeds are more important than words and I beg to differ with you that Stokes deserves the credit for what you describe.
Mr. Stokes is a " showhorse" narcissist, not a workhorse. He's no Melvin Priester or other Black members who did the real work necessary which included forming good relationships with othersand negotiating skills.
They didn't look only to their district or seek the limelight but knew the city as a whole had to prosper.
Mr. Stokes is a showman and nothing more.
You are very naive to think he is doing anything other than to siphon enough votes from GOP loyalists in fashionable NE Jackson and South Jackson to win the mayoral race. And, where better to let others bash his likely opponent than on conservative talk radio while he " prays".
Advertising your " faith" and " living " it are very different. One who lives it doesn't have to publicly proclaim it. It's obvious in what you DO.
All hat and no cattle as they say in the West.

@3:10
This is the real 1:50. That poster @5:51 PM is a poser. You are correct, I live in Flowood. My bad.

If you care about which politicians are corrupt: when they are elected note their filed financial statement, home, attire and general life style.
Then check again when they next are up for re-election.
Reconcile improvements in their lifestyle while in office and see if you could make those with the same income.
I can name the far too many unsuccessful lawyers barely making it who are living mighty high on the hog on their government salary once elected. They didn't have rich wives or family money or a successful firm, but they lived very expensive homes in top neighborhoods ( see Zillow).
One has to have a source of income other than their elected office sufficient to live that well. And a local law practice with no national connections or publishable tort wins or inheritance or marrying well. The yearly partner splits aren't enough nor can you hold office and also bill enough hours to do it.

Anybody who believes Stokes has changed stripes and is suddenly a statesman who gives a shit is a damned fool.

Regardless of Stokes comments, I’m curious how a radio station that calls itself a “Gospel” station continues to broadcast platforms for political hosts. Thought that only was allowed on Super Talk.

The only thing dumber than Kenneth Stokes, are the idiots who keep voting for him.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
