JSU Faculty: No Confidence in President

The Jackson State University Faculty Senate issued the following statement.

The resolution was presented by the Executive Committee and voted on by the University’s Faculty Senators.   The Jackson State University Faculty Senate did in fact vote in favor of the resolution to move forward with bringing concerns to the Jackson State University campus community and other stakeholders. This Resolution sets forth that there is No Confidence in President Thomas Hudson and various leaders of the administration. The gross majority of the voting members agreed with the entirety of the no confidence proclamation.   Jackson State University Faculty Senate Executive Committee and the Faculty Senate are calling for a restoration of shared governance, transparency, accountability, and academic democracy at Jackson State University.  Citing that, “These University leaders [including Hudson] have exhibited a continuous pattern of failing to respect shared governance, transparency, accountability, and have worked outside of professional norms that have broad implications for the campus climate, the reputation of Jackson State University, and the university’s commitment both to providing a high-quality education and to carrying out its mission of a commitment to excellence. The Faculty Senate remains intent to advance the concerns of the faculty and expresses a continued willingness to engage in any forum to yield remedy to the issues shared by its body.

First rule of physics = for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Too much Prime.

So the people that he has not listened to or met with are mad at him and making a sad attempt to get his attention. They should all hold their breath until he responds; that would show him!

Prime goeth before your fall.

Anonymous said...

Interesting that they lead with complaints about vagrancy/homelessness/crime/unsafe conditions. Seems a bit off brand for virtue-signaling "academicians." Must be a NIMBY thing.

Too woke or not woke enough?

Anonymous said...

Is he not woke enough?

Faculty has hurtie feelings.

"First rule of physics = for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

That's actually Newton's Third Law: Action & Reaction, but hey, who's counting.

Is this code for, they big mad that Prime left and its this guy's fault?

Anonymous said...

It's about time! The IHL found this clown off some woodpile and made him president because they thought he would do nothing like the last guy they shuffled in. Not only does he do nothing but he makes things worse! JSU needs competent leadership but won't get it from this Bryant-Reeves college board.

Key words, people....'Shared Governance'.

Way too damned many employees, public and private, demand or dream about shared management, shared governance, shared policy writing, shared disciplinary decisions.

Life at work is no damned union environment unless and until you have a union in place.

Sure, these bobble-heads wanta be equal to management but with none of the responsibilities of leadership and those who are actually accountable for management-level decisions.

Sit down and do the jobs you were hired to do or find yourself replaced.

Now that Coach Prime has left the powers that be will need to do their job. He was a distraction from their incompetence.

Seems like the faculty are upset about the conditions on campus. Well let me tell the homeless crack heads have taken over south Jackson. I would not be suprised when they say the homeless are in the buildings and following students around. This is a huge problem. I have always said JSU needs to build a massive wall around campus to keep these bums out of there. Who wants to go to school when you have crack heads on campus squatting around. As far as maintenance of buildings there is plenty of money at the BOB to take care of that for them.

Here's one. Find any college president, anywhere in Mississippi, no, anywhere in the South less qualified to be a college president than this guy the College Board chose for Jackson State. I DARE YOU!

@11:10a & 11:11a

Gosh...ya'll are just...mean.

Anonymous said...

has everybody already forgotten about the arrest of JSU president william bynum on solicitation of prostitution, false identity and marijana charges back in feb 2020?
what ever happened to him?
i don't know who picks out college presidents for JSU but whoever it is ought to be fired.

Anonymous said...

Coach Prime was impressed with the potential of Jackson State until he met the president. Then, time to go go go.

Anonymous said...

@12:28 PM Isn't he the county administrator or attorney for the board of supervisors?

Anonymous said...

The timing of this is in parallel with his being named 2023 Top CEO by the Mississippi Business Journal. There's a story here...

This was coming two years ago but the Deion Sanders glory days postponed the lynch mob. His appointment was the most blatant declaration of war against J-State since pre-Ayers lawsuit. The appointment of the pervert and criminal Bynum was bad enough but this guy is a joke.

Anonymous said...

Welp, Prime was right after all…..

Anonymous said...

Neither Prime nor Choice nor House Grade got shit to do with this. All you all know to bark about is Neon. Give it a rest. He gone.

Anonymous said...

MBJ is as much of a joke as is MT.

Anonymous said...

I have to agree with the senate on this one. This guy is a JD with no management experience much less higher Ed experience. He shouldn’t be anywhere near a c Suite.

Anonymous said...

Big deal. So the faculty has no confidence in their boss. As if that matters.
They don't hire or fire the pres and the people who do don't give a damn about them or Jackson State. JSU has no clout with the governor who selects the college board or with the legislature which funds their pipe dreams. If they are so upset they should take a job at a school with money and the ability to select their own leadership or shut up and teach. They are too arrogant to face facts... no matter their degrees they are just hired hands.

Anonymous said...

Some faculty senator thinks they can be promoted to president.

Anonymous said...

Prime is gone. So are the dreams of long overdue funding and big time development. Oh Well....back to reality.

Anonymous said...

I read some of these comments and decided to check the curriculum vitae and published credentials of several HBCU presidents as well as the JSU selection. After doing so I can only say that someone at the highest level does not take JSU very seriously or simply dislikes the place. No serious search would produce this result. If the faculty senate does not demand academic integrity nobody else will. That's sad.

Anonymous said...

This is the same moronic Senate that ran off Ron Mason.

Anonymous said...

So the Jackson State faculty and their supporters are upset with the president? What else is new? They will always be upset because they expect too much from an agent of the IHL Board of Regents. The board is never going to elevate the status of JSU no matter how much they bitch and moan. The JSU people wanted to be a full fledged "university" so the college board simply made the title "university" meaningless and left them in their second class status. That was their last chance. The president can't change that. If he tries he will be fired. It may be frustrating but it will not change. The board has a guy who suits THEIR vision not the JSU faithful. The school will probably continue to shrink.

Anonymous said...

Again. This is the same moronic Senate that ran off Ron Mason, the best President ever. These people will never be happy.

Anonymous said...

6:09 Right. The same Ron Mason who openly admitted his loyalty was to the college board and that the IHL would never advocate for the funds to make JSU competitive with the big three. He proposed that the best hope might be to merge with Alcorn or Valley to form "Jacobs State" (Jacobs?) and hope for the best. You know the reaction. That Ron Mason? But you're right these people will never be happy.

Anonymous said...

@6:09 Mason left 12 years ago and he wasn't run off by the faculty senate. Only three of the current senators were on the faculty senate then. The senate has just over 30 members.

Prime left for more money and more media attention. This guy was not a factor.

Mississippi's "higher ed" system is a cabal overseen by the IHL and MCCB who both are charged with keeping quiet the BILLIONS in federal student aid grants/loans that massively subsidize local pet projects and administrative bloat that are obscene. It's really a jobs program for the well-connected. Nothing more. Education is not a priority, only certification of attendance and "completion". All can be done online now of course, making it even more bogus.

Before long the secondary system (K-12) will be fully blended with the flimflam as part of the funnel system that makes sure those students continue to be channeled through the cattle guards to apply for that FAFSA gravy.

Over 30% of the enrollment at 15 community colleges are now "dual credit" ONLINE high schoolers who are able to actually get an associate degree while earning their high school diploma... it's of course double dipping, but shhhhh. Wink. Nod. Smile. They can't let them NOT go to college - we'd lose that free federal moolah in the name of "helping young people". Total horseshit. It's about the dollars. "Education is all Mississippi has in terms of jobs", is a quote often heard in the halls of power.

Deion filled a needed void of inspiration and leadership, but then left a vacuum. But what's happening on every campus in the state is tragic in the administrative bloat and vanity projects that fed/state taxpayers don't even know about. And the college foundations are the washing machine for all that cabbage.

The Jackson State community has been disgusted and embarrassed since the Phil Bryant college board sent that dunce Bynum to cripple JSU. When he was finally arrested the board again showed their hostility towards Jackson State by appointing an unqualified stooge to replace him and continue the process. The arrival of Deion Sanders and the subsequent explosion of publicity paused all efforts to publicly protest the rotten administration. Nobody wanted to put a damper on the good times. But now, it's time again to point out the dire situation the university faces without competent leadership.

Anonymous said...

I remember there was a former female president of jsu that could not account for over $90 million in spending. And that campus is just as derelict as always

Anonymous said...

12:22. It was NOT $90 million. It was only $75 million.

PEGASUS343 said...

12:22 That would be amazing if it were true, and it's not. If you rely on documented facts rather than your "memory" you will find that the disputed amount is far far less than that and it regarded depletion of the university endowment, mostly to fund the severely underfunded engineering dept. Her problems with the IHL was not personal corruption but expansion of the university without their approval.

Anonymous said...

January 28, 2023 at 4:19 PM, if you know it was ONLY $75 million, maybe you know where it went. Would you care to share the love?

Anonymous said...

4:19 It wasn't $75 million either. $75 million? Get facts stop hate dreamin'

Faculty Senate at most schools is a coo coo farm.

Anonymous said...

The very people the faculty are complaining about are the same people who keep electing Lumumba. By the way, the President of the college is supposed to fix the vagrant problem in Jackson, as well as the crime? Ok. What about a letter to the Mayor?

Anonymous said...

@ 4:19, is that supposed to be ok or make us feel better?

Anonymous said...

The amount "unaccounted for" (stolen) was $37,000,000. Were she white, she would at least have been investigated, and probably in prison.
https://mississippitoday.org/2016/10/25/jackson-state-university-president-resigns/

Anonymous said...

"Meyers’ resignation came days after the College Board hired a CPA firm to examine JSU’s finances after the university’s cash reserves went from $37 million in 2012 to about $4 million this year."

Anonymous said...

It's all a waste of time. The IHL don't give a flying damn about some faculty senate or Jackson State. What a joke.

Anonymous said...

Dr. Meyers drained the rainy day fund--not the endowment. She used those funds to offer scholarships to boost the enrollment, to fund Ayers programs that had sustainability issues as Ayers funds waned, and to paper over a growing annual deficit. Much of the reason for the subsequent retrenchment after Meyers resigned was so JSU could save enough money to replenish the rainy day fund.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
