Health Department: WEAR MASKS!!!

The Mississippi State Department of Health issued the following statement.

Given the rising number of cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi, and the increased risk of exposure to both the healthcare provider and the patient, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) now recommends that healthcare workers wear a face covering (either manufactured or appropriate cloth mask) throughout the workday.

This recommendation applies to healthcare professionals working in clinical care areas, even if they do not come into direct contact with patients. Cloth masks are preferred in non-patient care settings in hospitals and clinics. Cloth masks should be laundered daily under the guidance of the healthcare facility.

When caring for patients with possible COVID-19 symptoms, MSDH strongly recommend strict compliance with CDC infection control guidance. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is still a critically vulnerable resource. Hygienic measures to reuse or recycle PPE should be taken when possible.

All masks should be replaced at a frequency determined by the healthcare facility.

Additionally, MSDH recommends that all Mississippi residents wear locally produced (non-medical grade masks) or homemade cloth masks when leaving the home to perform essential functions such as grocery shopping or filling prescriptions. This DOES NOT include manufactured (surgical) or N95 masks, which should be reserved for healthcare workers and first responders. This additional safety measure is especially important in areas where proper social distancing is difficult to maintain, such as grocery stores or other areas where essential supplies are obtained.

The best protection is staying home when possible and limiting travel outside the home. Obtain essential services as infrequently as possible, and when doing so always maintain a distance of at least six feet.

Furthermore, MSDH recommends that essential commercial operations, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenience stores, take every measure to ensure social distancing and proper hand hygiene. Customers should have ready access to hand sanitizer. All shopping carts should be sanitized between uses. Every effort should be made to prevent crowding within stores including in the aisles, outside the store, and at checkout. Again, patrons should always maintain a distance of at least six feet from one another.

For more information on the latest guidance and case updates, download the free MS Ready mobile app or visit the MSDH website at www.HealthyMS.com/covid-19.

Lots of people were sure the earth was flat and you could avoid the plague with some pretty, er, "strange" things. You live (hopefully), you learn (hopefully). WEAR THE GODDAMNED MASKS!

Kingfish, I'm grateful that you approved all of my comments ranting about why we should all wear masks. I feel like Jackson Jambalaya, combined with the federal recommendation, made this finally happen. Of course they will never admit to your influence.

I’m sorry but Sunday on Face the Nation Dr Fauci was asked point blank if he wore a mask. His answer, no. Although he did say he would if he was forced to be in a crowd. I’ll just do what he’s doing.

So where can one find said masks ?

I might take such panic a bit more serious if the same folks had been screaming "Wear a Condom " for the last fifty years.

Question....N95 Masks/Respirators are designed to filter out 95% of particles. What is the Smallest particle they are rated to stop?

Question...What is the Smallest size COVID-19 has been found in (Airborne Aerosol)? There are a couple of studies that have been published that give this.

Prior to this, N95 and P100 (oil resistant) were commonly used by commercial painters and drywall finishers.

2 days ago, 1 set of P100, 3M 2091 filters for the 3M 7000 series 1/2 face reusable Respirator sold for $53.00. Prior to this, you could buy 1 set in bulk 100 packs for about $6.00 each, or 300.00 per 100 pieces.

Look out in your storage room for masks. That's where I found a box of them...held over from yard mowing one spring when pollen was extremely high and the lawnmowers were kicking up tons of dust in the dry month.

@10:57,
The press release contains instructions on how to make a mask. And there are hundreds of tutorials online. It is on you to take care of yourself. Not the responsibility of anyone else. Be it a government or retailer.

Some of you numbskulls still don't get it. Wearing the mask isn't just out of fear. If everyone is wearing a mask then the spreading is reduced exponentially. If mask wearing was adopted months ago then the shutdown wouldn't have been necessary.
It takes days to show any symptoms if you have Covid-19. If you wear a mask in public then you reduce the spread. It isn't a difficult concept. Why do you rednecks fight this so hard?

First they told us medical grade masks would not do any good for everyday people (a lie!) and now they are telling us a homemade cloth mask will help (another lie).

Well, a homemade cloth mask will keep your fingers out of your mouth and nose, but that's about it.

The good news is that this level of panic and naivety probably marks the bottom. I'll go ahead and call it. April 7 marks the bottom.

WOW.....seems like common sense to me.

Respiratory infections....mask or no mask? Let's review.

All a mask would do is delay the inevitable. Given everything we touch, what would be the point?

People without masks should be denied entry to all buildings, public transport, and outdoor venues.
Known anti-maskers should be denied medical care due to gross personal negligence.
Anti-maskers should be denied stimulus from the CARES Act.

@11:54. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still no to masks.

A mask doesn't really help. They want people to wear a mask while in public to help you reduce touching your face, mouth and eyes. It sort of works as a reminder. Most of you won't take the time to watch this video made by a doctor working the front lines in NY, but he explains it all. Just use common sense and quit living in fear.

I vote to have people like @1:36 PM restrained and muzzled like a dog.

People need to understand the goal is to "Slow the spread" not "stop the virus".

We are simply trying to prevent the medical system from being overwhelmed with cases.

Slow the spread, stop being so holier than thou as if you're smarter or care more than other people, you don't. You are just dumber and holier than thou

@1:52 PM, it's not that I don't have time. I just can't take seriously, the opinion of someone incapable of creating a Hyperlink which is the most basic form of coding.

There is a phone number where you can report people who are violating the orders. 1800-462-6294

It's easier to remember 1800-Ima-Nazi

Thanks 5:57. I feel so much informed because of your advice.

There are also hundreds of tutorials about how to prepare Chateaubriand along with Baked Alaska.

And BTW, I'm probably more prepared to take care of myself than you.

@4:20
Says the loser with no masks or any clue where to buy them, lulz!

Anonymous said...

@2:41 PM You need to learn how to take care of yourself and stop relying on others and the government to do stuff for you. Learn how to copy/paste.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices.
