Mayor: Rights Should be Regulated

Lumumba Administration says open-carry law equivalent to Jim Crow laws.
City Council Hires Lawyer, Opposes E.O.

The Jackson City Council voted 6-0 last night to oppose the Mayor's ban of the open-carry of firearms in Jackson. The resolution does not affect the Mayor's gun ban. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued an executive order that banned such use of firearms Saturday. Mississippi State Representative Dana Criswell sued in federal court yesterday to overturn the ban.

Dr. Safiyah Omari defended the Mayor's gun ban at a meeting of the City Council last night.  She is the Chief of Staff for Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. She compared the open-carry laws to the Jim Crow laws and other laws used to discriminate against blacks.  Echoing the Mayor, she said rights should be regulated.

The City Council hired attorney Deshun Martin to represent its interest.  The City Attorney's office recused itself from representing the city due to the conflict between the City Council and the Mayor.   Councilmen Aaron Banks and DeKeither Stamps held a press conference this morning.  Mr. Stamps said the Mayor already had representation that was privately funded. (KF note: Word is its the Bloomberg crowd.).

Ward 4 City Councilman DeKeither Stamps said the 2nd Amendment permits open-carry. Mr. Stamps said he doesn't have bodyguards and travels the same streets as the criminals. He said JPD usually responds after the crime is committed. He said open-carry is one of the only means he and others have to defend themselves.

geez. it’s like the mayor wants gangsters to be the only ones who carry guns.

Yes, remember, Rights are not inalienable, the are privileges!

Can he please go tell the upstanding young citizens of Jackson that he banned the use of guns in the city. Not sure they got the word since a few people got capped over the weekend.

how in the world does open carry relate to Jim Crow?

Anonymous said...

Open carry = Jim Crow laws?!

Someone give this clown a plastic red nose and a goofy wig. Then again, maybe not, Bozo would take offense to being compared to Lumumba.

open carry laws are racist? really!

Anything, I mean anything blacks are opposed to they paint racist. kinda tired of them beating a dead dog.

How could firearms be called racist? Jackson's biggest problems happens to be the blacks who are arming themselves with stolen guns and using them to kill other citizens of Jackson. How many times has a person who open carries ever shot another person in Jackson? Now how many times have criminals who are not allowed to own a gun shot a person in Jackson?
The solution for Jackson's problem can be solved very easy. Prosecute criminals found in possession of guns. No new useless laws adopted. Just enforce the ones already on the books.
Take a look at who is killing people in Jackson. Put the spotlight on them.

Weren't the Black Panthers some of the early open carry champions?

The Mayor and his braintrust are attempting to conflate murder rates in Jackson with the rarest crime in America... Hate Crimes.

Kingfish has never approved a comment of mine that cites the statistics, so I wont list them. But you have to really search hard to find a gun crime in Jackson that is NOT black on black.

Part of the Jim Crow laws were regulations on blacks carrying guns. Gun control is literally a Jim Crow law.

These guys are all morons. Most couldn't make it in the private sector so they got into government. This mayor would be best suited on a deserted island away from man kind. Jim crow my a$$... in Alabama 50 years ago white politicians tried to take the guns from black neighborhoods so they couldn't defend themselves. Looks like chokwe is following suit. Well, he and stamps together couldn't pass a bar exam this week I put money on it.

This is all about Chockway. He doesn't give a crap about open-carry or the City of Jackson.

His goal is to sensationalize any issue, hoping it makes national news.
He lusts to be a new generation Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson- a big time narcissist race whore on the national scene

Somebody tell junior that campaign funds cannot be used to pay off civil judgments.

They do know that the Jim Crow Laws were written by Southern Democrats, don't they?

Don’t get fooled by the bouncing ball. This is just Chok preparing for life after his term is up. He is attempting to curry favor with the powers that be. If you want Bloomberg’s blessing and $$, this is the step you must take to prove loyalty. If you want Soros’ backing, you have to fiddle with local elections.

Today: JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Tracey Hatten, 47, was a beloved truck driver with a big smile, and he goes by the nickname “Dump.” He’s known for his love of cooking, his green thumb, and his killer dance moves.

“You know when he danced, he’d just act funny. Everybody just loved him because he kept us laughing," said his sister, Patricia Sidney.

Outside Hatten’s home, the flowers are in full bloom -- that’s what he does, they said. He makes the flowers bloom. He cooks and grills and he loves his 17-year-old daughter who has been a daddy’s girl since she was born 3 months early and just over two pounds.

“Dump” went to work each day, and when he came home, he had a ritual that helped him wind down each day.

“The chair on the front porch is where he would just relax when he got off work," said Sidney.

That chair is where Hatten was sitting when gunfire erupted from across the street. Hatten started trying to get his family inside the house. A neighbor had opened fire, and police said the incident had to do with an earlier fight. But it was a fight that had nothing to do with Dump.

Eddie Jean Smith threw down the computer she was working on and ran outside to see who was shooting. That’s when she saw the man she’s loved for 21 years lying on the ground, critically injured.

Hatten was rushed to the the hospital in critical condition. He died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“All I can remember him saying, ‘I don’t do nothing to no one, I had nothing to do with this, what is going on?’” Smith said. "And that’s when he told my brother, ‘I’ve been shot.’”

Jackson Police Department said Demarcus Taylor was arrested and charged with the shooting. After Hatten’s death, the charges may be upgraded to murder.

“I’m weak. All I know is Tracey. I’ve been with this man for 21 years," she said. "I can’t get that back. Nobody can give me that back. And I want justice.”

They’d had plans to get old together, Smith said. Hatten used to always tell his daughter that when he was elderly, he wanted the fastest scooter they made so he could hurry to the beer store. Smith said she hadn’t eaten or slept ever since her father was shot.

“I ain’t lost my faith," Smith said. "The more the doctors call, the more I pray and I keep my faith.”

Greenview Drive is a street that has been revitalized by Habitat for Humanity.

Hatten’s family said several of the neighbors have called the police and made complaints on the neighbors involved in Hatten’s shooting over a period of years, in part because they’re known for discharging weapons into the air.

So much for the idiots ban.

This piece of work by the mayor has little to do with the present situation in the city of Jackson and much to do with this mayor's future. Ultra liberal money is out there but it ain't in Jackson. This mayor saw a fleeting chance to make his anti-gun statement and he made it. Except for a little dust up and some legal fees, no harm done, no good either, but so what? The kid's radical resume' gets a boost and he can say he's trying to stop the violence. Some idiots will even believe it.

Most all of us that have a concealed carry permit will openly carry if we want to.

And if arrested by Jackson's finest for doing so, we will sue Choke personally and sue the City of Jackson as well for allowing him to attempt to breach our unalienable right to bear our arms in any manner we so choose...open or concealed.

To sue him personally will have its' greatest effect.

Soooo...according to the "female NUT" (in the video) on the city's board, I can simply disregard the laws I want to if I think it's an "unjust law"! THAT is exactly what she said inferring a racially motivated past in regard to past laws in the State of Mississippi.

Well...Noooo, I would have to have the law (2nd amendment) changed in order to have it the way I would like. It's called a judicial, democratic action

Anonymous said...

Anybody know the actual murder count in Jackson.?

Anonymous said...

Many people are saying Chokwe is stupid and doesn't know what he's doing. Believe me, he knows exactly what he's doing. This gun ploy is just the beginning of his bigger plan. I can't say exactly what that plan is but rest assured it has to do with absolute power over the City of Jackson and eventually Mississippi and other southern states. Many of you are too young to remember shootouts his father was involved with in 1969 and 1971. "Additionally, it was involved with shootouts at New Bethel Baptist Church in 1969 (during the one-year anniversary of the founding) and another in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1971. (It had announced that the capital of the Republic would be in Hinds County, Mississippi, located on a member's farm.) In the confrontations, law-enforcement officials were killed and injured." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_New_Afrika If you will read about The Republic of New Afrika and their goal to take over the Southeasten United States as their own country perhaps Baby Chokwe's goal will make some sense.

Prior to becoming Mayor Lumumba's Chief of Staff, Here are some excerpts of Dr. Safiyah Omari's CV:

Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs and an Associate Professor of Social Work and Health Sciences at Jackson State University. Before that, she was Chair of the Psychology Department at Tougaloo College. She received her Ph.D. in Experimental Social Psychology from Northeastern University, and her research interests include mental health, effects of gender, race, and culture on health behaviors and psychological well-being, violence against women, and discriminatory stress.

It makes me wonder what she's been brainw- I mean teaching, the Jackson yutes over the years.

They don't want equality, just revenge. Blame the white man for everything.

12:24 - just to clarify. The "female nut" you refer to is NOT on the 'city board' - that lady is Virgie Lindsey and if she was present she was one of the six council members that voted unanimously against the male nut's (Mayor's) order.

The 'female nut' you are looking at is the Mayor's Chief of Staff (and handler, to make sure he walks the line of the Kush organization).

Sometimes one needs a program to tell the actors, but in this case, the 'female nut' is easily differentiated from the Council members.

Somebody should remind Chokwe how minorities were treated until the began to arm theirselves and were willing to stand up with guns. Why would he want to return to that era?

Anonymous said...

I really don't recall seeing bunches of people open carry in Jackson. This is just a distraction from the things we can't fix. Same thing for the legislator who is suing the mayor. Playing to his crowd just like Lumumba playing to his crowd. Its all meaningless.

Can't fix education, can't fix the budget, can't fix public health. Get people distracted by a gun argument. Or a flag argument. Works every time. For both sides....because both sides are stacked with ignorant sheep.

Anonymous said...

He is a joke and I'd laugh in his or any of his minions faces if they were to confront me. I would gladly get "arrested" and take this to the supreme court and sue Lumumba Lite and the city personally. They are all idiots but this is a calculated "nudge" in the direction of progressivism, you can write that down.

Guns are now racist. Blacks shooting blacks. Does that mean those blacks are racist. I cant follow this logic. We can talk all day about taking guns off the streets but don't understand where Jim Crow comes into play. You go take all the criminals guns then we will talk about taking my gun. I keep thinking Jackson has hit bottom then Little Chok or Kenneth step up and prove me wrong.
This is so sad I used o be so proud to tell people I lived in Jackson now I'm embarrassed to say I used to live there.

Anonymous said...

I still suspect this move was to prevent any open carry protests. Also, the fact that we haven't seen spontaneous open carry protest yet, proves that the gun nuts are really all just terrified bootlickers

Anonymous said...

"Rights must be regulated", that's the same thing that Segregationists said, but they were referring to the rights of African-Americans.

If there is any connection between then and now, it's that rights can't be watered down for political purposes. I'll see him in court!

What is apparent is that the Mayor for the people have betrayed the people. This smells like outside interest, Jackson is being placed in a fishbowl. Federal law enforcement money is used to set up surveillance on the people. Some folks will be fine and unbothered. But for many that was hoping that he’d be radical for the people, has been radicalized for the System at the price of the people. As they chant if you don’t love the people you’ll betray the people

So was Mayor Chokwe’s father involved in the killing of Officer Skinner (Judge William Skinner’s father)? Race card has absolutely Nothing to do with the right to bear arms or Open Carry Law! It does not mention anything about RACE in either of these.I do not own a gun nor do I begrudge a person the right under the law to own one. If a person has evil in his heart then a knife, hands, club or whatever can be used to harm someone even a motor vehicle. I am ashamed of the Mayor and city council & this is why I & most people CHOSE to leave the city.

Anonymous said...

Chokwe wasn't busy... he should be been there to deliver the message... like I've always said... I've known him from the time he was in middle school at private school with me. He's a pu$$¥ and this proves it as he was too frightened to deliver this himself. He's a leader from his office not publicly of course. He has no ba££s and sent her to tell the people. It's like breaking up with a girlfriend via text or through a friend.

When I see a man open carrying who isn't in uniform or wearing an earbud guarding a VIP, I'm certain a gun is the only thing he's packing.

And, if those same men are in Starbucks, I'm pretty sure they are scared of their own shadow.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
