Filched in The Fondren

A reader's truck was stolen in The Fondren today.  He sent a video and his account of the thievery  to JJ

Approximately 2:00pm (6/14/2022)

This happened to me in the parking lot outside of Brent’s Drugs while my wife, kids, and myself were meeting some of our family from out of town for lunch. I am well aware of Jackson’s auto theft reputation so I parked on Duling Avenue in order to be out in the open and reduce the risks of being robbed! I even took the extra precautions to empty my truck bed and take the baby stroller out of my truck bed and put in my back seat. According to the capital police (who have been extremely helpful and diligent so far), I would have been much better off squeezed in between the cars in the main parking lot and not on the busy road out in the open.

The attached video is from the tower security camera system in the middle of the parking lot.  Start the video at the 1:00 min mark and you can see the culprits coming east on Duling Avenue approaching my truck in a black Ford F-150. Within a few seconds my truck is gone

Come to find out, the black Ford was stolen Saturday afternoon in broad daylight from Nevada Bobs parking lot. The video of my truck being stolen today was shared all over Facebook by my wife. The owner of the black F-150 saw the video and recognized his truck. Seeing that the truck was still in the Jackson area, they left Madison with a search party and went on a hunt for it around Fondren. An hour later it was found backed in a parking space at the Seville apartments just west of the Milsaps campus. Some of my belongings were found in the back seat of the black F-150.

And as of a few minutes ago, we just got word through my wife’s Facebook post of another Ford F-250 that was stolen today from the Baptist Colonnades parking lot. There is video survellience of my truck being used to go steal this truck. Inside their Ford F-250 were the keys to a Toyota truck as well as the paper work to another Ford F-250. Luckily, the owners were able to recover their vehicle through the FordPass tracking app.

The auto theft issue in Jackson is WAY WAY WAY out of control. I could write for hours about the horror stories I have heard about Jackson from law enforcement officers I have talked to today - it is truly terrifying. I have never been “anti-Jackson”, but I cannot ever risk going back there again unless I absolutely have to. My advice to anyone with a Ford truck is to never take it to Jackson. Do not trust your vehicle to be secure with with your keys locked inside of it no matter where you are at. And please download the FordPass app on your phone ASAP so you can track and locate your vehicle if you are ever in this situation.

They stole the truck in less than 20 seconds. Good grief.

I park my truck at fondren every day. white F-150. tag starts with GK. Come get it. Make sure you have good medical insurance.

So you lock your keys INSIDE your car IN Jackson and are then shocked that your vehicle was stolen? Good job Mr. Darwin.

Anonymous said...

Get out NOW- While you can!

Anonymous said...

Surely Chuckles* will host a presser to discuss this unacceptable crime...right?

*You know its gotten bad when a bloviating camera like him does not even want to roll these things into a publicity stunt.

Do not trust your vehicle to be secure with with your keys locked inside of it

just wow

Reluctantly agreed to meet some Fondren friends for dinner this weekend in that area.

I will be cancelling. Good luck to the Jackson business owners.

This administration hates you.

Anonymous said...

If you know not to do it, and still do, then you deserve the results.

Is there one ounce of good news that has recently come out of Jacktown??? Anybody??

I think it is about time to hold property owners accountable for being too damn cheap to upgrade from their potato cams and toy recorders. It is 2022 and there are plenty of companies in the metro who install modern CCTV systems. This heavily compressed, low resolution video is basically worthless.

Question, were his keys locked inside of the vehicle? My wife had a Mercury when we first married, and it had the little code access on the driver's door to unlock it. Do the new Fords have something similar that people are using while leaving the keys inside the vehicle? I was wondering how in the Sam Hill could a new technology vehicle be stolen so quickly without some sort of electronic code swiping.

So glad I drive a stick shift, the best anti-theft device possible!
The young guys working at the local dealerships and auto mechanic shops can’t drive them either!

"So you lock your keys INSIDE your car IN Jackson and are then shocked that your vehicle was stolen? Good job Mr. Darwin."

Why would someone do that? I thought he had misspoke when I first read it.

Reason #999 to never buy a Ford PU. They come with a license to steal.

Anonymous said...

I think I've seen videos of a ice pick like tool used specifically on Ford F150s door handles to demonstrate the insanely fast option to steal them? Thanks YouTube.

Had one friend lose his F150 from the Outback parking lot years ago, and another came out to find his F150 had door lock damage from a quick trip into Highland Village.

Probably just don't got to Jackson if you drive that truck.

Hookah said...

Ford trucks are the easiest to steal. Pin punch inserted under the door handle hits the locking rod and unlocks vehicle without setting off alarm then pry off the key turn and start with a flat head screw driver. They make a product called door jam which is essential a steel plate that bolts on inside of doors.

Anonymous said...

That's why if you have to do business in Jackson which I do you drive a 2006 chevy silverado that is very clean on the inside and has a awesome drive train. The outside on the other hand looks worse than the cars these criminals drive around. Thus nobody wants it. Kind of like Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse own a Mercedes but drive around in a old car.

Anonymous said...

Where does it say he locked his keys in the truck?

Anonymous said...

@9:19

It's probably an RFID grabber, they can do the same thing if your keys are hung near the door of your house. Walk up to the door, grab the RFID through he wall and hop in your car in the driveway and take off.

No manufacturer cares about security, cars, routers, TVs, none of them.

I feel sorry for all the businesses that try to stay in Jackson and offer something positive for the city.

Anonymous said...

Ford's have security issues....they are common culprits due to being the favored vehicle of sheeple who all want to look the same, but there are some inherent security flaws in the design. Hope the Capitol Police start to pull this back. Until then, I will continue to safely and securely park my Range Rover in Fondren while the thieves target your F-150s.

Anonymous said...

Instead of bashing the owner of a vehicle that was locked…
We could all put the blame where it belongs….the criminal. Hopefully none of y’all perfect people make a mistake one day and get taken advantage of. A thief is a thief and they’ll get you. We need more law enforcement in Jackson and more sting operations to deter this type of stuff.
Nothing will change in Jackson until the administration of Jackson changes though. So it’s just the same beating of a dead horse.
Be smart. Avoid Jackson. Sorry to all the good folks and good businesses.

Have had a couple stolen up here in Canton. Both had key pads on drivers side door. Seems that is one of the weak links.

Highland Village has stuff happen almost daily. Trucks - stolen, broken into; purses grabbed, etc. Management keeps it from hitting the news.

When you do stupid things you can’t be shocked by the results. It’s like the people in the burbs who leave wallets, keys and guns in their unlocked cars and then are outraged when they are stolen.

Sure, feel bad that his truck was stolen but you made the job easier!!

Anonymous said...

I thought having a Yeti sticker on your F-150's rear window kept the thieves away, even in The Fondren.

Wasn't the boy mayor's Real Time Crime Center supposed to stop most crime, right?

9:09 I feel you but I would not risk the chance of going before a Hinds County GJ. While blasting a few of the yewts is just what is needed, giving a Hinds GJ the opportunity to send you to Parchman just aint worth it. Shop in Madison/Rankin where at least if you shoot one of these cretins you wont be prosecuted for your act of public service.

Anonymous said...

What kind of idiot leaves their keys in the car? If you morons did not make it so easy on the criminals, they may not go to much more effort and just move on.

Anonymous said...

If this truck was stolen without the keys then things will get much worse.

This is a constant problem in Jackson. We don’t have any good Leaders so how do we expect good citizens? Jackson has gone down so much. Just ride around the city and through the town. It’s a disgrace. Clean up your city. If Jackson loses Fondren and The District them what is left?

Anonymous said...

I don't leave keys or guns in car and I agree its incredibly unwise.

But man, its a wild time to be alive when the comments are more angry at the driver than the criminal.

At this point, I would not be surprised if the masses celebrated the death of that poor young Meridian police officer because hey...criminal rights are valued more in this liberal era of history.

At least y'all are consistent with your defense of these useless members of society.

Maybe MDOT should modify their "EV survey" to include in the question of "Do you drive an EV?" to have a choice "Yes, I traded in my Ford truck because it was getting stolen in The Fondren and The Belhaven for a used shitbox Prius."

@9:09 AM and @10:33 AM - right on. Count me in.

Anonymous said...

Wait wait wait, so you LEFT YOUR KEYS IN YOUR TRUCK and somehow this is an indictment of how dangerous and scary Jackson is and you'll never come back? Here's an idea: DON'T LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN YOUR VEHICLE ANWHERE EVER.

Anonymous said...

A couple of years ago I had the theft system go bad on my F150. I tried everything then put an add on craigs list with a $500 reward to anyone who could bypass my alarm system. Got several replies but no one could start the truck.

Anonymous said...

What kind of idiot blames law abiding citizens who lock their vehicles in broad daylight instead of the stupid fuckers who steal working peoples shit?

Anonymous said...

I guess that explains a lot. Blame the car owner. Blame the business owner. Never blame the criminal. Poor thing just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to take something that was NOT theirs.

Back in the day, they hung a horse thief because they stole a mans mode of transportation and means to work!!!!hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The Jackson residents and business owners here have had to resort to "the driver is clearly to blame" arguments because that is the most positive spin even they can find to put on their crime riddled location of choice.

Hope these same folks wear bullet proof vests when they take out that garbage for Richards to someday pickup because if you catch a stray bullet, that's clearly on you for being so careless.

And, it'll certainly be your fault if you don't have steel bars on your home when a burglar throws a brick through that window you paid good money for.

Fair is fair.

The F-150 is the #1 target for car thieves.

So regardless of where you go, if you own an F150, F250, F350 - the Fast and Furious see you as a prime target, regardless if you are in the burbs or the city, anywhere in America.

Do your homework before you purchase a vehicle.

Anonymous said...

"Do not trust your vehicle to be secure with with your keys locked inside of it no matter where you are at."

Yes, I would suggest not leaving the keys inside a vehicle even if locked.

Anonymous said...

Let’s spend some of the unallocated money to buy a new f150. Park it (anywhere in Jackson) and wait for the thieves to arrive. Arrest -prosecute-done. Seems simple enough.

County Cletus said...

Your first mistake was meeting family members from out of town in downtown Jackson. Plenty of other places around to do that. A second mistake was meeting family members from out of town in downtown Jackson. You see where I’m going with this!

Anonymous said...

Lots of reading comprehension failures on here. The victim mentioned that he knows someone who left his keys in his truck; NOT THIS GUY, MAROONS!

Anonymous said...

Elsewhere in Fondren thieves are stealing Japanese maple trees right out of front yards. No joke.

Anonymous said...

Other than also claiming a gun on your insurance, what difference does it make if you leave your gun concealed in your truck and they steal your truck?

Anonymous said...

Only thing that would make this better is if he left a gun in there to be stolen and put out on the streets.

Anonymous said...

4:21 is right. I am all for folks leaving visible weapons in cars for these thugs to have more guns to off each other with.

I don't patronize the city limits so it wont affect me, and the officials have zero plan to curb the violence.

So why not. Lets help them, help us by removing a few of the other criminals with stolen guns during their "interpersonal" disputes.

They stole my truck at the old Twin Peaks 12-12-2013! It was Ford 150! I had a trailer with two 4 wheelers on it also! It was the middle of the day! Right off I-55! Why would the police not set them up and catch them? I never got my truck back! My trailer and 4 wheelers I got back! The sheriff in Scott county got them ! This needs to stop!!!

So, Robert St John and Roy Anderson have invested in the Fondren area to try and make it a great place to be. I really hate to say it but their efforts are in vain. Mr. St John will not like the area once he gets a taste of the crime due to a “certain culture that lives, eats and breathes” crime as a way of life. When will folks wake up and see that Jackson is lost? I hate to see it worse than most of you but the truth is the truth. The lil guy in charge is more in Bennie Thompsons back pocket than we think. His daddy was a running buddy with Thompson and they all have blood on their hands for killing a policeman whose son is a Judge.

the difference is that in Rankin and Madison we can ventilate car thieves/home invaders with our legal $6000 suppressed AR15 SBR’s and a Grand Jury of our peers will issue NO TRUE BILL! You won’t even hear about it in the news!

KF,
You report it if you get a press release. But if the press releases don’t get issues because the homeowner defending their property with deadly force is an affluent local business owner (such as a big local car dealer) then nobody, including you, reports it.

I read the entire link for the Jimijammer and noticed two things:

1) The instructions are terribly complicated and anything but routine. Ford ought to allow their mechanics to do this and, of course, charge for it. It would take most of us an entire weekend to accomplish installation and we'd still screw it up.

2) The image (example) of a thief breaking into an F-150 shows a white man with his cap on backwards. How WOKE.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
