ATV Driver Killed

The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued the following statement.

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, at approximately 8:06 PM, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 469 near Townsend Drive in Rankin County.

A 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 18-year-old Christopher Moore of Florence, MS, traveled south on Highway 469 when it collided with an ATV driven by 30-year-old Justin Taylor of Mendenhall, MS, traveling south on Highway 469. Justin Taylor received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Kingfish note: The deceased was a Flowood firefighter.  What was he doing driving a four-wheeler on a state highway?

The spot where that street intersects 469 is in the middle of a blind curve. Every time you turn out onto 469 from Townsend Drive, you risk a collision.

I've seen ATV's on city streets, county roads, and state highways. I see them all the time on 4-lane Highway 25 between Carthage and Louisville. I love an ATV as much as anyone, but they have no business being on a state Highway. I almost collided with one about 2 weeks ago in Gluckstadt. The ATV driver was driving like a maniac on a busy road. I was going home from work.

When I first read it I thought it was the 18 year old who got killed, which would be more understandable.

What in the world is a 30 year old man doing driving an ATV on a highway?

Texting teen?

But if he was on a bicycle we’d be hearing a bunch of “share the road” nonsense

Ever since they invented ATVs, I have never heard of a death or serious injury associated with riding one, except when two or more of the basic safety rules were being broken. This is just another case in point.

One would think a firefighter would know better.

In my area we have well paved and maintained wide sidewalks and I don't know what's worse...the amount of ATVs and Golf carts that do use them, or the amount of bike riders that refuse to utilize them and instead use the streets while failing to adhere to traffic laws.

Came upon not one but two ATVs, without lights, in the dark at about the same time on Hwy 471, near 43, at the same time last night. Same time. Same county. Not along the road. ON the road at 20 mph for a mile.

One driven by a woman with a child on back. Totally oblivious of all the cars coming up their back at 55 mph (the speed limit), not able to see them. Totally oblivious that the oncoming traffic had a 55mph passing lane access and can't see them.

But Rankin, the Rez, MHP, no one, especially not the HOAs, ever enforces or brings this up. In years past, both RezPD and RCSO would take the kids to their parents over this. No mas.

If whatever you are driving or riding does not have a tag stay off the road. It is illegal or should be.

I'll just say this plainly and succinctly. Four wheelers are death machines on the road or off the road whatever age the participants are.

I recently had a delta friend lose a son at a deer camp on one of these death traps. When they came out, they were 3 wheelers. These proved to be death traps, so they added another front wheel. The results haven’t improved much.

You can say it all you want to but it's still not true.

The original 3-wheelers were the death traps in hill country.

Does ANY LE agency enforce laws anymore? I see video after video of things like this, and many have officers just standing by and looking. The more of this stuff you allow, the more of it you're going to get!

I can assure if the RCSO had seen the ATV rider on 469 then they would’ve been pulled over. That location is just outside of Florence city limits. No local PD would be on patrol duty past the Steen’s Creek bridge.

Poor kid will have to live this the rest of his life. All because someone failed to follow laws.

The guy had his family on the ATV with him. Two kids scrapes and bruises, one broke a femur.

Terrible loss, but why would he put himself and his children in such danger?

Easy clutching the pearls, guys. It could have as well been a tagged motorcycle and the result would have been the same. Actually, it probably could have been a small car and been the same. We don’t know enough to draw conclusions, but I wouldnt be shocked if a cellphone is at the root of it.

6:55PM, would not even come out to look. A year or so ago I called the RCSO to report two people inside of a neighbor's house stealing things. When the police finally got there both people had left, one did wait around for an hour but finally walked home. He live a block away. When the police finally got there the officer was drunk. He kept asking me how they got into my house. He couldn't understand I was telling him it was the house across the street. He finally drove off and I called the RCSO again and asked for a sober officer. They sent the same drunk one back. They got the name from of one thief from a neighbor who had told the thief to go into the house and get something for him. I had the tag number of the other one who had driven off.
No one was arrested and the cop finally said he couldn't arrest them anyway.

A true statement. They aren't engineered for road. Or, exceeding weight limits. Lots of serious injuries and deaths. Please advise others.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
