Built atop an old landfill too.
I was at Murrah High School with Doug Wills. Outstanding individual, both academically and athletically. Lettered in four sports for 3 years in a very competitive environment.
Jackson should sell the naming rights to the highest bidder. A nice plaque somewhere for Smith-Wills should suffice.
I thought it was because Cowboy Baloney was too difficult to spell and sounded too hokey. And Lord knows Jackson don't do hokey.
Thank you, Fish
I was wondering this very thing a few days ago with few details online.
Nice job KF. Thanks.
I'm surprised that the city has not changed the name (as they did with the Allen C. Thompson airport).

Why would they? I can’t recall a single event that has been hosted at smith wills in almost 20 years. Not taking anything away from these two kids who lost their lives but the stadium itself as far as I know just sits there vacant. You better believe if it got more notarity it would be someone’s political football.
The best use of this facility in decades has been assembling the National Guard there to handle logistics and vaccination protocol there.
Refresh our memory on 'two kids who lost their lives'. I do recall a crawfish customer being killed in a car-jacking in that parking lot a few years ago.

Reading comprehension problem? It's the top of the lead story at the top of the page.
