50 lbs of Meth Seized

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.

On Wednesday Evening July 3, 2019, Rankin County Criminal Interdiction Deputy Johnson conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge passenger car on Interstate 20 for a traffic violation.

During the traffic stop the deputy suspected the vehicle was possibly transporting drugs and/or contraband. A consensual search revealed over 50 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The driver, Raymundo G. PAEZ Jr., and passenger, Laura I. CANTU, were both placed under arrest for aggravated trafficking of methamphetamine and transported to the Rankin County Jail. District Attorney John “Bubba” Bramlett will bring both suspects before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel for an initial appearance. No Bond has been set at this time.

Brandon Police Department Officer French along with Rankin County Deputies Lindley and Reid assisted in the traffic stop and investigation.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is over $800,000.00.

This investigation is continuing. The Department of Immigration and the Department of Homeland Security have been contacted in reference to this case.

Kingfish note: But, but, banning sudafed was supposed to stop this.

There are multiple ways to make meth, and sudafed extraction is just one of them.

Any bets that these two are illegals, who bring such talents and disease to the U.S.

And we wonder why we have a problem at the border? Definitely a problem.

Sucks for the SO that they seized drugs and not cash.

Did they at least get a good car out of the deal?

Come on Kingfish...banning Sudafed has seriously cut down on shake and bake meth labs. The clean up from these labs was very expensive and dangerous to boot. The large Mexican labs have stepped in to provide high grade meth to the losers who eat that stuff. The only downside to putting the shake and bake labs out of business is that the cookers now don’t blow themselves up....

Sudafed is not banned. And if they were just passing through, what difference would it make?

4:42 has a good point, the super labs in China and Mexico use a completely different formula.

Oh, and I would NOT hit that.

The best meth is blue, I thought.

Thanks for posting this, Kingfish! I have been waiting for my damn delivery all day.

Folks. The 1st annual 4th of July God Meth America food free cookout and freakout is officially cancelled.

Kingfish, I realize your comments are to get a conversation started but you really don't think that stuff was made in this state.

Plate readers. Recording your every move. Welcome to the surveillance state.

Another great job by Rankin S.O. Thanks for getting this poison off the street.
Please know that what you do is appreciated by the law abiding citizens of Rankin County.

You are right as rain with the sudafed comment. You think this stuff was produced in California in somebody's bathtub? Not likely. Lots more probable that it was the product of a state of the art lab somewhere south of the border (or west of the International Date Line) and smuggled into this country.

An interesting point largely overlooked that tends to confirm my view is that the purity of meth has steadily increased while the price has gone down. In other words -- despite the seemingly limitless supply of folks willing to buy the stuff -- there is more around now than ever. Hence lower prices and higher purity.

This might be a good lesson to remember for when they get around to outlawing some subset of guns. So long as there is demand there will be somebody somewhere willing to produce, smuggle, and sell the contraband. Liquor, dope, guns, and other even more morally disordered things, e.g., kiddie porn.

Plate readers or not, the police didn't have probable cause to search the car. These two bean heads could have told the cops no. This whole thing could have been avoided.

They made it from Texas I assume, again a stop by the Rankin County Drug Deputies. Methinks a alternate route for mules avoiding I20 in Rankin would be recommended. As noted earlier, no cash, just dope.
Maybe the root cause is not the border but dope head Americans?

Automated License Plate Readers: State Statutes

Andy Taggart's drug war won't put a single dent in this kind of stuff. But we all will pay for it nonetheless. Your tax dollars at work.

Surprised they made it past Louisiana HP. "improper lane change"

I want to know why these busts always happen in Rankin? They drove 1000 miles and this was the only traffic violation they did? I feel like Rankin SO knows they are coming somehow.

@ 5:29 - yes, yes it is...

I have that exact same hammer.

I guess there was a reason the plate-reader statutes got posted as a link at 10:19 a.m. But if these plate-readers are being used in Texas and Mississippi, perhaps at Vicksburg, they could certainly track vehicles crossing through most of Texas and crossing the River at Vicksburg, still headed east.

According to the link, Arkansas has a statute precluding their use by law enforcement; however, there is no statute in Mississippi or Texas precluding or restricting their use. If they are used by Rankin County, would that fact be subject to public information rules?

It defies common sense to suggest all of these Mexicans are weaving or crossing the center line.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
