Mayor Condemns Car Show's "Reckless Behavior"

Jackson Mayor John Horhn issued the following statement.

“The reckless behavior displayed by some attendees during this weekend’s car show in downtown Jackson was egregious, dangerous, and completely unacceptable. The decision by certain individuals to perform donuts in the middle of the street, in close proximity to spectators, other motorists, and adjacent businesses, placed lives at risk.

As Mayor, my first responsibility is to protect the people of Jackson and safeguard our neighborhoods, business districts, and public spaces. While we welcome events that showcase our city, we will not tolerate conduct that endangers others.

Effective immediately, the City of Jackson is undertaking a thorough review of the car show to gain a clearer understanding of what occurred, to work closely with law enforcement and event organizers, and to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place moving forward.

We are grateful that no one was seriously injured, and we are taking the necessary steps to prevent this type of reckless activity from happening again.”

No mention of arresting them for their "activities". They'll laugh at the proposed solution without accountability. Trust me.

This is a lukewarm response that will amount to nothing but pissing both sides off. Just arrest them or else they are going to get mad at the statement saying “we wuz just having fun!”

Horhn should focus on his primary responsibility of protecting the people and not running off to a liberal kumbaya session.

Mayor, whom ever you consulted with regarding the CarShow did not look at or paint the whole picture. Im sure they thought it’s was just a CarShow. Not a Clown Show!
Next time go to the annual CarShow in Orange Beach Alabama and get a real picture what a CarShow should be!
As Snoop Dog says we can be our worst sometimes!

Mayor, make that fool that did those donuts pay to get those tire marks out of the streets.

That oughta show 'em! If not, put it in all caps - they may move out of state in fear.

No cops anywhere?

Great. Another study.
2nd verse, same as the first. Definition of insanity is.....

Helpful hint. Take the videos as Exhibits A thru Z and put the hoodlums under the jail. Make an example out of them. That'd be a different approach, eh?

How can the mayor expect the police will do something when the citizens don't report street takeovers and car shows?

I'm not sure why the mayor skipped asking the public for input on this issue.

Hopefully it's not too late for the Police Chief to have some multijurisdictional public/private consensus building input sessions to spark public involvement and ownership in the traffic law enforcement decision making process improvement planning and implementation processes.

"And the Dr. Chief and I will not tolerate club shootings (after 2 a.m.), titty-pulling fights, the slinging of chairs and weaves in restaurants and sleeping on the job at city hall. If you roll into Jackson to cause a breach of our peace, we will dispatch you back to the burbs. Let this be a warning, please."

Investigation? The participants arrived and saw that nobody was in charge so they simply did what they wanted to do. That's what happened.....Nobody in charge.

I guess the reckless drivers will get the counseling they needed for years paid for by the city. Mayor and Police Chief do you know what made them so reckless? I know, I know they didn’t have a daddy in their lives!

Sounds like the Biden comment "Don't" not much to back it up

Didn't the video show Capitol Police blocking off the street?

5:06am You win!

I'm sorry but law enforcement was there and did NOTHING! This city is a lost cause until we can replace enough of the ferals with civilized humans. That is the only solution. And good for Horhn but I guess he just kissed reelection goodbye. His voters hate any movement towards law and order.

Remain calm! All is well!

This whole debacle is a great example of the Broken Windows Theory. If you tolerate something like doing burnouts on a major street through town, you invite these ferals to do much more. The only response is to drop the hammer, not make some half-hearted statement.

It was a great event. Go kick rocks John Horne.

Anonymous said...

They need to make this part of the advertising package for tourism because it perfectly captures the ghetto that is Jackson. And did DJP have any involvement?

Anonymous said...

It was a great event for ferals, you idiot.

Anonymous said...

I think that was Capitol PD busting it up. No donuts done with them present in video.

Anonymous said...

They shouldn't pave the streets. Can't do that kind of donut with potholes everywhere. That would stop it for sure.

Anonymous said...

May I please have some dressing for this word-salad condemnation?

Anonymous said...

You can make arrests all you want, but if you don’t have judges who will convict and punish the criminals, then you will continue to have “lives at risk.”

It's truly sad how far we've fallen as a society. I'll be called racist for saying this, but look at photos and video footage of Capitol Street in the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's. People were walking around in nice clothing- shopping, eating, socializing. The streets were clean, businesses were booming. Heck, look at Farish Street during that time. Same thing. Fast forward to today. People smoking dope on corners, rap music blaring, guns blazing, and ghetto sleds burning out and revving their engines. It's wild to think how classless some of society has become in the last 70 years.

Everyone knew their place an u did what the City Marshall said!

He was elected. By the voters of Jackson
until 1970.

Even if a lot of the citizens couldn't vote in those days..

Bla bla bla

If someone had been injured, the city would have been sued. This is completely insane. Jackson is just lost.

Anonymous said...

I just returned home from an overnight trip to Clarksdale. The crime and poverty there are stunning. I will never criticize Jackson again.

Anonymous said...

My advice for people passing through Jackson: Go around.

Anonymous said...

That statement should prevent future events, lol!

No mention of the NOISE...
No mention of the DISRUPTION...

In a city filled with gigantic, VACANT parking lots, and EMPTY streets where nobody goes, anymore, what possible excuse did anyone have, for blocking off a main thoroughfare - one of the last streets in Jackson to have any relevance to anything?

Anonymous said...

If you watch the video, you will see a police car with blues on sitting right there at the intersection where the donuter did his thang. It was no doubt one of his young relatives.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
