Bill Crawford: Bounty-Hunter Reeves(?) Spurs Re-Election Kickoff

Peculiar, yes that beats out perplexing, bizarre, cuckoo, and weird as the best word to describe how Gov. Tate Reeves’ re-election kickoff unfolded.

To begin, on Tuesday afternoon May 2nd his team tweeted a short and peculiar video. It morphed the Governor into the remorseless bounty hunter played by Clint Eastwood in his 1960s Dollars westerns. Reeves’ chubby face appeared on Eastwood’s lean body as he gunned down a bad guy, scared off three others, tried to look mean, twirled his gun into its holster, and puffed on a cigarillo. The “we’re back” caption hardly matched the peculiar video message.

While the video rebounded across Twitter, TikTok, and fringe blogs, most Mississippi media peculiarly ignored it.

On the night of May 2nd, Reeves held a traditional campaign rally in Gulfport. As might be expected, he touted his accomplishments since becoming governor - “Raising teacher pay, cutting taxes, raising school test scores, recruiting new jobs, and training the workforce,” reported the Magnolia Tribune.

The next day, he signed his qualifying papers and held a kick-off event in Richland. There he again touted those accomplishments - “Cutting government. Cutting taxes. Raising teacher pay. Raising test scores. Training our workers. Recruiting new jobs,” reported the Magnolia Tribune.

“Today more of our people are working in Mississippi than ever before,” Reeves said as reported in the Clarion-Ledger. “Our unemployment rate of three and one-half percent is the lowest ever.”

Not stopping there, Reeves peculiarly chose to channel former Gov. Ross Barnett, a demagogic, fear-mongering character from the 1960s.

In 1962, Barnett revved up supporters’ fears in a radio message broadcast across Mississippi: “I speak to you now in the moment of our greatest crisis since the War Between the States,” he said. “Professional agitators and the unfriendly liberal press and other trouble makers are pouring across our borders intent upon instigating strife among our people.”

Reeves played on similar fears saying, “My friends, this is a different governor’s campaign than we have ever seen before in our state because we are not up against a local-yokel Mississippi Democrat, we are up against a national liberal machine.” “They” are out to get Mississippi, he said as reported by Mississippi Today.

Like the Eastwood video clip, most Mississippi media peculiarly failed to detail Reeves’ “they” are out to get Mississippi diatribe.

With all the accomplishments that Reeves touts, it was most peculiar that he scrunched his positive message between the weird Eastwood video and the throwback Barnett-like rant. It suggests either campaign concerns that are not evident to the public or a need for public concern about the Governor.

“I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each one according to his conduct, to what he has done” – Jeremiah 17:10.

Poor Bill. His horse is a democrat headed for the glue factory.

Using the same word, four times in this case, in a short diatribe, is rather peculiar.

Poor Bill voted for Biden/Harris. 'nuf said.

Most GOP education successes by other Red State governors were centered around Choice and Vouchers. Why not Reeves, there are many successful models to ape?

Bill’s next column will be one lifting up the liberal democrat opponent-

Tate knows something about his base. If the election looks tight he will rely on old Barnett tactics: Jackson-baiting. It'll be just as effective as Ross' old race-bating. Get ready, the best is yet to come.

917 - because in our system of government, the legislature must first PASS a statute authorizing choice orvouchers. The Governor alone can't just go create it.

Nancy Loome and her Cadre of legislators have blocked every attempt at choice and vouchers. To accomplish improvements without the benefit of choice and vouchers you say other red state Governor's have used indicates some real success.

Dang. I think Tate’s Clint Eastwood s clips are entertaining. Hope he has more coming. Wish I had all his campaign money when I was running for office. I would have been Patrick Swayze in Road House. Looking forward to the wild ads.

Now imagine if he called say, Stacy Abrams (black woman) chubby.

I’m not a huge fan of Reeves. I like Crawford much, much, less.

11:52am
Other GOP governors, in concert with their respective legislatures, have implemented Choice and Vouchers, where Ed dollars follow each student to their parents choice of school, rather than funding a system, as in MS.

Tate Reeves is a national laughing stock and an embarrasment. If you Republicans are going to elect the next Governor, please do better.

Must be a slow news day for Crawford if that's all he's got to write about.

You clowns who think you support 'school choice and vouchers' better be careful what you ask for.

Imagine 400 JPS scholars suddenly showing up on the doorsteps of Madison Central and Germantown. Along with another 200 from Canton Public.

Or the same scholars showing up at Clinton and Rankin schools.

Are you willing to sacrifice the education of your children and grandchildren for the sake of (yet) another social experiment?

As if busing, in the sixties and seventies, was not bad enough.

4:56 PM, except for the once in a blue moon softball as non-critical as can be piece about colossal failure Democrat Jackson’s water situation and the fool Chokwe,

what else has Bill (Minor wanna a be but can’t pull it off) Crawford ever written about besides these lap dog hit pieces on Republicans?

Most of us know with as much certainty as the sun came up this morning what Crawford will soon be writing about – cause as its election season…BWAHAHAHAHAHA

@8:21 for the win!

All y’all better be listening to what @11:10 pm is telling y’all.

Nancy Loome and her Cadre of legislators have blocked every attempt at choice and vouchers.

Loome's influence heft has been greatly diminished and after November will be lesser still. The recently concluded legislative session is proof. If you knew a lick about what is going on down there you'd understand.

I was most appalled at the Clint Eastwood wannabe tweet. It is telling that the folks being shot are Mexicans and that the ad ran a couple of days before the immigration law changed. No doubt it was aimed at stoking fear of "the other" and showing how the character would blow them away if they threatened. What a sad, creepy little tale that tells. But it is in line with his Barnett theatrics. Playing to what is now his base. As someone who used to be a Republican, I am sorry for the moderate conservatives in the Party who are being ignored, yet necessary for victory. I am proud that the Dems' front runner is a focused fighter for the people, ALL the people.

Oh, and BTW, all the riots, carnage and horror some were predicting after the border law lifted never materialized. A sad situation for the Tater team, no doubt.

That's dumb. The Clint Eastwood westerns were called spaghetti westerns for a reason: they were filmed in Italy. The deceased are probably Italians. I'm sure you protest mob movies, don't you? But let's break them down. In a Fistful of Dollars, Clint killed a bunch of Baxters at the beginning, who were what? Americans. He kills the native Rojos at the end. For a Few Dollars More was set in America and guess what? The bad guys were Americans and Italians playing some Mexicans. Good Bad and the Ugly? Set in the American Southwest, probably Texas because it was during the War Between the States. Once again, the few Mexicans who might have been in the movie were played by Italians.

The video strikes me as something frat boys came up with. The part about attacking Mississippi is true. Gavin Newsome has been doing it. The Salesforce CEO said he wants to fund campaigns to remove all redstate governors. There are other examples. However, you know what that is, political junkie inside baseball stuff that the average college educated or likely voter is not going to have any clue about.

9:53 AM, you have zero proof beyond campaign words that Presley is a fighter for 'all the people' and will actually buck the Democrat party line should, God forbid, he be elected Governor.

Enjoy your RINO wilderness.

Who could have guessed Ross Barnett would play a role in our current gubernatorial election cycle?

What are you leftists waiting on to invoke the names of Beckwith, DeLaughter, Peters, the Evers brothers and Bobby Kennedy?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
