Mayor Holds Press Conference

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his weekly press conference right now.  The presser is streamed below.

* Visit Jackson will hold "601JXN Day" June 1-June 4.  More information at Visit Jackson website.

* Zippty Zoo Day will take place at the Jackson Zoo this Saturday from 11 - 2.

* Mayor Lumumba introduced interim Police Chief Joseph Wade. Chief Wade said he is excited "to be a change-maker in the police department."  He said his priorities are addressing violent crimes, recruitment & retention of police officers,  and youth crime prevention. He said he looked forward to "bouncing his many, many, many ideas off of the Mayor."  Mayor Lumumba said he is going to "set targets" for fighting crime and communicate them to the public.  Hmmm... does that mean he will stop hiding crime stats?

*  Hizzoner addressed the lighting project on Highway 18.  He said the highway "as much of Jackson" is too dark."  The city will install improved lighting on "TV Road on down."  The city is awaiting MDOT approval for the project.

*  Ross Adams asked how many officers are "on the force."  Chief Wade said there are 223 police officers.  160 officers are assigned to patrol.

Right? Right? Right?

A two parent family with a working dad leading his family is the best intervention you can have.

He looks like he just rolled out of bed. Trashy

My mother, bless her heart and may she rest in eternal peace, always gave me a 3-pack of nice JC Penney t-shirts for Christmas.

But I never wore or owned a v-neck t-shirt, and if I had, I would never have worn it to a meeting or community event other than maybe a mud race or catfish fry if I were cooking.

160 officers on patrol! Ha! He wishes. He should've asked how many are actually on patrol, and not riding a desk because they were too proactive. Let's not also forget some of the stellar hires that JPD has made in the last couple of years. 20% or so of the actual 85 on the streets might be reputable officers.

Looks hungover. wearing a t-shirt with a coat. At least he's got the hankie in the pocket. What a joke. If we are going to celebrate all things Jackson, I think he only needs about an hour on 6/1 to do that. Probably a lunch event at best.

Will there be a presser when another 20% quit? Seriously, what IS his thought process regarding police department staffing?

A closeup might show food stains on that undershirt and/or little round burn holes.

As unprofessional as he looks, he's still better dressed than Fetterman.

1:11, say you’re a has-been boomer, without saying that you’re a has-been boomer.

Your comment was an excellent start.

4:53 chokeway is the mayor of the capitol city of our state and he rolled up to a press conference looking like he just left the M-Bar after a looooong night.

1:11 may or may not be a "boomer", but he was right. I've never seen Lumumba so unkempt.
Somethings off.

So many insensitive comments. It's very obvious that the Mayor was robbed on his way to the presser, and they snatched his nice tweed shirt. People we need understanding please !!

What other Mayor in state has to have weekly press conferences? It’s because they are actually doing things.

His outsides are starting to reflect his insides. Rotten to the core.

The highlight of his week is being introduced for his silly press conferences.

Say no to drugs!

“ say you’re a has-been boomer, without saying that you’re a has-been boomer.” well, to be a “has been” means, they once were. That's probably something you will never experience.

Call me. Call me. Call me any, any, any time. Call me. I go straight to Blondie. Can’t help it. Call me.

Bumble looks radical!

The mayor still smokin dat dope - can it be even more obvious?

Yep, I agree with the observations about his t-shirt at today's presser.

Hell ... even back in 2017... he looked more professional when he was wearing one of his J C Penny suits.

FU€k this mayor… I am so sick of his lying ass voice and his face

Kingfish said...

I can assure you they didn't come from JC Penny.

Hey Mayor, your NOLA drug dealer buddies didn’t pick up my garbage today even though they managed to run their M Bar commercial on TV. Can you check on that?

Half-asleep, hungover, stoned, all three? Mondays can be rough. But when you’re announcing that installation of streetlights on the Highway 80 corridor may actually take place some day, you gotta show up so you can at least shift blame henceforth to MDOT. That is an absolute need to know announcement.

Wearing a tie to play mayor is tough to do if one is only a poseur regardless.

Not his fault, all the dry cleaners in Jackghanistan be closed.

9:50 must've heard the same thing I did - that Richard's employees are dealing drugs off their trucks in certain neighborhoods. That's what a Midtown resident told me.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
