Now There are Two (Updated)

Update: Mississippi Democratic Party files notice of appeal.

Political troublemaker Bob Hickingbottom pulled it off.  Special Circuit Judge Forrest Johnson just placed Mr. Hickingbottom back on the Mississippi Gubernatorial Democratic ballot.  The Mississippi Democratic Party refused to accept his candidacy so Hickeydoo went to court to get his way.

The decision will be appealed but win or lose, it appears we have some mischief in the Democratic primary.

No doubt this will roil the efforts at Brandon Presley Today.

So the Democrats got told they have to play by the rules, huh? They should have learned from their 2007 experience that they can't make up their own rules and qualify only their chosen ones.

Mr. Hicking-hoo-do is standing by to receive his $250,000 contribution from the Mississippi Hospital Association.

What the Democrats need to learn is the right to vote includes the right to vote for the candidate of your choice.

Their attempt to clear the field for Brandon by kicking off the other two candidates is a violation of the voter's right to choose.

And for the Democrat heirachy to think that kicking off the two black candidates in favor of their chosen, but last, Great White Hope is good politics speaks to their opinion of their xonstitutency.

Brandon Presley is not governor material. He has no education, he's just studied at Miss State. He's got his folksy sayings memorized and he's infatuated with himself. Just look at all the pictures he posts of himself on Facebook. He'll say anything that he thinks resonates with whomever he happens to be talking to. He tries to be a bully and he's basically just full of crap.
If you want to vote Democrat, vote for the other guy.

I don’t know why Jim Newman hates Democrats that don’t look like him so much. Certainly the Presley machine won’t appeal.

Anonymous said...

Normally Sam Begley is on the front end of disenfranchising candidates through these sorts of challenges on behalf of the establishment. They must have had a terrible case.

Anonymous said...

Is this the result of the Bennie Thompson machine?

Anonymous said...

MS Dems up to their old Dixiecrat ways it seems

Anonymous said...

Hickingbottom will campaign much more aggressively and extensively than Robert Gray, who didn't.

While Presley isn't Vicki Slater he'll be forced to spend money to avoid Slater's primary fate.

Should Hickingbottom play the race card in the primary Presley will have some real problems.

Anonymous said...

How long will it take the Barksdalers to report on this?

Anonymous said...

This is not a democratic move. Everyone knows bob is a republican operative put on the ticket to make Presley spend faster and run harder before the general. The dems did the right thing by trying to get him out. It’s Tate Reeves wants him in.
The dems should have run a republican against Tate in return.

Anonymous said...

At this point, Presley has 2 options:
1) work hard to make sure he gets out of the primary. But he’s gonna run out of breath and out of money before general .
2) pretend he has no competition for the primary. But ask Vicki Slater how that worked out.

12:07...I agree

Mississippi Today has a nice piece on this gentleman. Shame on Chris McDaniel for this continued unethical conduct. I personally think the Democratic part should fight fire with fire. Get a few Kkk guys to enter the race as republicans and have them start singing the praises of Tater Tot for all his good klan work. They might even have a shot at getting the nomination.

Begley was in the courtroom but only (as best could be told) watching. Gerald Munford was attempting to represent the Democrats; John Reeves was the victorious attorney representing Hickingbottom.

Judge Al Johnson did a great job handling the case.

Justice served. Too bad the other black guy didn't join in the suit, he would have been reinstated as a candidate as well.

Democrats attempt to disenfranche black Mississippians iverturned by white Judge. Bet you want see that headline on the national media.

12:07, actual history vehemently disagrees with your baseless statements. Brandon Presley was the only commissioner that stood against the Kemper debacle until the facts and the calvary arrived to kill it. He also led the bipartisan legislation for the Broadband Act that is now beneficial to the entire state. You should apologize to him.

Anonymous said...

Maybe this will make Brandon Presley have an actual platform with his ideology, unlike his current platform which is just "I'm less corrupt than Tate"

Anonymous said...

Republicans put a PSC candidate who wasn’t qualified on the ballot and Dems knocked off someone who was qualified. Looks like both parties are the same. Republicans have been in power for two decades and things have not got better.

Anonymous said...

1:37 so, you think it is 'the right thing' to break the law for your own personal reasons, and apply it only in cases that you choose to apply it! Right!

Disqualify a candidate because you prefer another; not let him run because he is black.

Yes, that is the Democratic way - ignore the law, make up rules to your liking, and apply them where you choose but don't apply them to the chosen.

Good definition of the democratic way.

By the way. Reeves does have a Republican opponent; two in fact. State Republican Party made no move to disqualify either of them.

To say Higgingbottom is a Republican tool shows your ignorance as well. But since I'm sure you want remove your Democrat eyeglasses and see the truth, us Wash also a Republican tool? Or was he disqualified only because he is black, and your party wants all the black folks to vote for the heirachy's chosen white guy?

Anonymous said...

Democrat crossover strategy ends badly.

Anonymous said...

4:24, 1:37 is correct. The Rs did the same thing to the late Bill Luckett when he ran for Governor. The outcome this time will be different, as Bennie Thompson immediately endorsed Brandon Presley.

Anonymous said...

It cant be both ways. If he can be on the ballot they should also allow Mandy Gunasekara who was forced off by the GOP establishment.

Anonymous said...

Judge Forrest Johnson is a reputable jurist of the highest quality. Glad to see judges that have integrity and uphold the law.

Anonymous said...

Hosemann crossover strategy DOA.

Anonymous said...

The dems should have run a republican against Tate in return.

They tried that, Waller lost.

Anonymous said...

658 you are a fool if you think, not for a moment buy for a second, that Johnny Dupree ran on behalf of Republicans, or with any Republican involvement in 2011

Clearly, you know nothing about Johnny Dupree. He is nobody's tool. As a multiple term elected Mayor of one of the state's largest cities, he was running on his own behalf.

Now, if you want to get down in the weeds of MS Democratic Party politics, there was faction that didn't want white candidate, and another faction that didn't want a black nominee. But that was all inter (Dem) party politics.

For you to try to compare Hockingbottom to Dupree shows either your ignorance or desperation.

Anonymous said...

Hickingbottom? Whoziz diddy?

Anonymous said...

729, damn, where do you get your information. Mandy G was not 'forced off the ballot by GOP establishment" - in fact, the exact opposite.

Not even MSNBC, or FOX, or worse yet NEWSMAX could screw that up as bad as you did.

Check your facts, man, before you open your keyboard again and show your absolute ignorance

Anonymous said...

@729 two totally different cases. Totally different facts. Totally different laws. But evidently to you, statutes don't matter.

Mandy didn't move to Mississippi within five years: homestead, voted in DC, kids in school in DC

Higgingbottom - black. Democrat. Over 35, lived in MS for over 20 years (5 required) not a felon. Met all rhe statutory requirements. Mandy didn't.

Laws have consequences. Dems can't make up their own. MAGAs can't ignore them.

I'm a 'follow the law' conservative. If you follow it - you are a good guy. If you want to skirt it, you aren't a good guy. If you want to write your own law, as the Democrats did here. You are a bad guy. And clearly, a Democrat.

What an opening intro, KF. "Political troublemaker"???

Didn't know you had become another (following Miss Today) mouthpiece for the MS Democratic Party. Almost as bad as what their attorney stated in court, when he said that the Democratic Party "would be embarresed to have Hickingbottom on the ballot".

While the party leaders (if they have any) might be embarresed, I wonder what their vote - being African Americans throughout the state - would think about them kicking off the black candidates so that their "chosen one", the white guy, could get a free ride to November.

Anonymous said...

High in bottom did not follow the orders of his Democrat masters. When the Democrat white man gives the order, he should have done as he was told. He is in real trouble now.

Anonymous said...

Hickingbottom Is represented by John Reeves, a Republican. Is he related to Tate? Who is paying his legal fees? Kingfish has not approved my last two comments about this. Seems odd.

Anonymous said...

I say let Hickingbottom on the ballot. Let him get his a** whooped by Presley on the same day McDaniel gets his whooped by Dilbert.

McDaniel will have spent money on Hickingbottom's legal fees for nothing.

Anonymous said...

So apparently Hickingbottom is not a member of the Dem's good ol' boys club.

Anonymous said...

Voting for McDaniel. Remember 2014!

Anonymous said...

3:44 - John Reeves - no relation to the Governor - nor to the perinneal candidate Charlotte (yes, there are lots of Reeveses in this world, and no connection between them).

Reeves has represented more Democratic candidates for office in election contests than Republicans. I'm sure he is just like most election lawyers who don't ask "what party" but rather "do you have the money" question when approched to represent them.

Whether John Reeves is a Republican or not is subject to question as well; looking at the campaign signs he posts on his office building would indicate to an observant person that he supports more Democrats than Republicans in their campaigns.

I imagine Hickingbottom hired Reeves solely because he was looking for someone that was competent and experienced; not based on his political philosophy. Just like that Democrat woman running in Grenada County last month when Reeves represented her in another Democrat primary election case.

Kingfish said...

12:22: Look up Hickeydoo's history in Jackson, especially with Melton. Nothing but a political whore and troublemaker.

What party was Reeves in the House? If I remember correctly, he was quite adept at getting opponents disqualified when he owned that seat.

Anonymous said...

Jason White was a democrat at one time in the house as well and he’s currently speaker pro tem and in line to be the next speaker. Good try though. Who is paying John Reeves to file a petition that is clearly late according to the election law statutes?

Anonymous said...

11:29 PM There is a very long list of both Republicans and Democrats who do not meet the residency and other requirements at the county, state, and federal level. Some who vote absentee have probably not set foot in their home county for 30 years. The respective state parties wanted Hickingbottom and Mandy out of the way so their chosen candidates would have a clear field.

Anonymous said...

It seems clear that GOP Lieutenant Governor candidate Chis McDaniel wants Higginbottom's name to appear on the August 8 Democratic ballot primary election. This will insure greater interest in the Democratic Primary election and decrease the number of Democratic and independent voters voting in the August 8 Republican primary election, where these voters would be inclined to vote for Hosemann over McDaniel ; see Cochran V. McDaniel Senate runoff election for reference.
The Supreme Court needs to reverse the trial judge's decision putting Hickingbottom on the Democratic Ballot. Hickingbottom waited l seventy-seven (77) days, on May 3, 2023 to file his petition for
judicial review of the election contest with the Circuit Court. It is untimely and should have been dismissed.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
