Mardis Back in Jail.

Jason Todd Mardis is back in jail and might be there for a long time.   Rankin County deputies arrested Mardis last week after he violated a no-contact order with his wife.  A bond revocation hearing is being held for Mardis right now.

A Rankin County grand jury indicted Todd Mardis in December for aggravated domestic violence in the brutal beating of his wife at their Flowood home in October.  A Flowood detective testified at an October preliminary hearing she suffered the following injuries on October 11:

1. Fractured right ankle

2. Fractured left cheekbone

3. Lacerated liver

4. Broken ribs (#10 and #11)

5. Strangulation marks on her neck

6. Missing hair on her head

7. Extensive bruising on her left arm and stomach.

Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow set Mardis's bond at $750,000 and ordered him to have no contact whatsoever with his wife.

However, the Mardises just could not seem to stay away from each other and were caught having dinner together a month ago.  A Madison County deputy's affidavit states

On March 5, 2023, at approximately 7:00 PM I was dining at Bill's Creole and Steak Depot, located at 471 Railroad Avenue in the City of Flora, MS, when I observed a male, who I know to be Jason Todd Mardis, and a female who I believed to be his wife, Kimberly Mardis, also eating at the restaurant. I later viewed a photograph of Kimberly Mardis and can confirm she is, in fact, the female that was with Jason Todd Mardis on March 5, 2023, at Bill's.

The deputy did his duty and reported his observations to his superiors.  Judge Steve Ratcliff revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest on March 29.  Deputies arrested Mardis and he now resides in the Rankin County jail.

Rankin County Assistant District Attorney Mary Jane (Don't say it) Lemon submitted a motion to revoke bail on March 29.   Her motion stated:

6. Moreover, Defendant's flagrant violation of the Court's no contact condition is a material breach of the conditions of release. This violation not only endangers the victim in this cause but jeopardizes the State's ability to prosecute Defendant. Victim intimidation is both a legal and factual problem for the State in its effort to hold the domestic violence offenders accountable.

A bond revocation hearing will be held today in Rankin County Circuit Court at 1 PM today.   Judge Ratcliff is away so Judge Morrow will preside over the hearing.

Kingfish note: Prediction: Revocation.

Synopsis of case.

Flowood police arrested Mardis on October 7.  JJ reported on October 11:

Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow set bond at $750,000 for Jason Todd Mardis this morning after Flowood police arrested him for aggravated domestic violence Friday.  Broken bones, torn-out hair, and a lacerated liver are just some of the savagery Mardis allegedly unleashed upon his wife the night of October 4.  Justice may indeed be served one day but it won't erase the horror that will forever scar her long after the wounds heal.

Mardis is President of Capital Preservation Services, LLC.  The company is known for advising physicians on tax planning and investments.    (KF note: The Board of Directors relieved him of his duties after his arrest). ...

Sergeant Messer testified Mardis and his wife met another couple for dinner at McLain's Lodge on the evening of October 4.  An argument that began at the restaurant ended in violence at the Mardis home in Lineage Lake of Lakeland in Flowood.  Security video showed Mardis punching his wife in the stomach before throwing the unconscious woman on the ground "like she was a rag doll."  He allegedly proceeded to slap her several times and dragged her across the pavement by her hair.

Collette objected to the testimony, arguing it had nothing to do with a motion to deny bond.  Miles replied an accounting of what took place that night showed the defendant is a danger to the community, thus grounds for denying bond.  Judge Morrow denied the objection.

The Flowood detective stated her injuries were:

1. Fractured right ankle

2. Fractured left cheekbone

3. Lacerated liver

4. Broken ribs (#10 and #11)

5. Strangulation marks on her neck

6. Missing hair on her head

7. Extensive bruising on her left arm and stomach.

The victim was hospitalized at St. Domic Hospital but her injuries required her to be transferred to UMMC. Mardis flew the next morning to Tampa on his private jet on a business trip.  His attorney, John Colette, said the trip was already planned.

A Rankin County deputy received information about the alleged assault and notified Flowood police on October 6.  Detective Messer interviewed the victim at the hospital.  Flowood police arrested Mardis at 2 PM October 7 at the Jackson International Airport when he returned from Tampa.

Waiving his rights, the defendant said he hit his wife with an open hand but did not recall how she got from the vehicle to the house.  However, the detective said police obtained video from three security cameras showing the assault. Earlier post.

The sentence for aggravated domestic violence ranges from two years to twenty years in prison. Attorney John Collette represents Mardis.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Steve Ratcliff, III.

He is about to learn that Judge Ratcliff isn’t one to mess with. Madison county doesn’t want his kind in it. It is my recollection he has created problems in Madison county at a previous wedding at a golf course.

As a woman, it makes me sick that any female would tolerate...much less seek this man and his behavior out.

And I have very little sympathy to offer her. She has the financial means to be done with him. So many impoverished women are not blessed with that option. Yet she chooses her abuser.

Perhaps she should beg them to drop all charges and just let them leave happily/miserably ever after.

Anonymous said...

is his buddy alyssa killebrew gonna dig him out of this one?

Anonymous said...

People are going to have less sympathy for her now. I do understand the manipulation and pull that an abuser can have over their victim though. But she needs to be strong and stay TF away from him. The court system is trying to help her - she needs to do her part to help herself.

Where is he in jail? He is not listed in the Madison county correction facility list of prisoners.

Bill's Creole and Steak Depot is very delicious. It might be worth jail time.

She’s gonna get people killed, just like the girl that stayed with her abuser that got 2 people killed at the parade.

He's in Rankin County Jail.

Wow. The power of a domestic partner! The state is doing what they can to protect her and she is back with him? Todd the judge isn’t your wife or kids, you can’t manipulate him. Don’t tell us it is love! If this goes to trial this will be a situation where Todd will throw his entire family on the stand to save himself!!

Now, after that, where do you think he is????

Why are you shaming her? She is a grown woman and can make her own decisions. Maybe she likes it rough? Maybe she forgave him? No matter what let her make her own choices.

Anonymous said...

so when she takes him back, as she clearly is looking into it, does he get charged when he kills her at some point?

@2:21 - You're right. The usual thug-buddies have not appeared to warn us just how bad-ass this little-dick thug is. And Kingfish usually weighs in to say the same.

Can we get a more up to date photo of him after the spray tan has worn off? Maybe one of him clutching a tube of KY.

@2:34 read the article...he's in the rankin county jail.

Anonymous said...

Let him go. She willingly violated the No Contact order by going out with him. Agree with our lady poster from earlier, "Perhaps she should beg them to drop all charges and just let them leave happily/miserably ever after."

Seen this type of scenario frequently in LE. They won't convict him w/o her testimony.

"why you people jumping her shit? The headline says HE violated the no contact order. Did I miss where SHE was complicit?"

True, that is what the headline said. And the article included the deputy's affidavit where it said "SHE" was at a restaurant in Flora with "HIM". Believe the fact that she was eating dinner some thirty miles away from home with him makes her somewhat complicit. He wouldn't be back in jail if SHE had not made the trip, either with him or meeting him. Either way - that seems to meet the definition.

Oxford Dictionary: Complicit, adjective: "Involved with others in an illegal activity"

Anonymous said...

They have been seeing each since he bailed out last time. Just dumb enough to appear in public. I’m sure the judge will ask during the bond hearing.

Anonymous said...

@2:47 did you miss the part where they were having dinner TOGETHER? Now unless Mrs Mardis was kidnapped, transported to Flora and forced to consume steak against her will, methinks she was complicit.

Anonymous said...

@3:21 - I think you are mistaken on this one. When the list of injuries resembles a high speed motorcycle crash, I’d bet a jury would convict him without the victim’s willingness to help prosecute.

Anonymous said...

I find it odd that a Madison County deputy in FLORA recognized this guy and his wife and recalled there was a no contact order between them.....then called his superiors.

More to the point I can't fathom why the deputy would even care enough to pick up the phone

Odd

Plus, she needs help or she'll end up dead. Remember George Bell killing Heather?

Here is a tip.

IF you decide to violate a no-contact order issued in the metro, think Vicksburg, Starkville, Meridian, Hattiesburg (preferably the coast), Desoto County, Tupelo for a meet up... Two hours minimum drive.

Damn, dumbf--k, your judge lives in Madison County...

Anonymous said...

Guys...next time you want to intervene in a domestic dispute, remember this.

If I had a son, I would tell him to call the cops and keep walking. This woman has made her choices. If she dies, then that was by her own willingness. Do not get shot trying to save a female that is addicted to attention and drama.

These type of women don't know how to be in a functional relationship and if Todd is ever by chance locked up, she will find another just like him.

Do not die trying to save someone that does not want to be saved.

Oh my bad, I didn't realize you were a licensed psychiatrist/psychologist and had interviewed her and made a diagnosis. You may want to look into HIPAA because you may have violated it by releasing information about her condition (if you don't have her consent).

Agree. I have sons and advised to avoid "fractured" women from broken homes, violent relationships etc. Unfortunate but such women, especially if physically sexy, have twisted, broken, disloyal psyches.

Seems like a long time for this abuser to be just roaming around city!

John Colette is representing the abuser

Anonymous said...

Well, Mardis is a degenerate piece of useless, wife-beating crap, and she's prob. dropped all the damn charges. He prob. bought her a new car, a diamond ring, "I'm so sorry, won't EVVVER do it again," and she drank the koolaid, And..in 6 months or so, instead of his ass being in Parchman, where he belongs, he will KILL HER. I'm very upset that he has conned her back into his drunken, violent life. At least *WHEN* he DOES (very sadly) kill her, maybe THEN they'll FINALLY put him away forever. After he takes an innocent, small woman's life. The mother of his children. (Because that list of injuries that he inflicted, last time? Those are injuries that..I don't even know.. boxers, or MMA fighters don't even get. Those injuries that this "man," TWICE her size, inflicted on her, are injuries that you see in the VERY WORST CAR WRECKS. She barely LIVED after all that.. and she's BACK WITH the monster..) The police NEED to keep him caged up, to save his wife's life.

Anonymous said...

10:25 - I'd guess whichever one he chose and paid. Attorneys don't choose clients. Attorneys are paid by clients to see (in this case) that they get a fair trial.

Surely you knew that.

Maybe, just maybe, this trophy wife wanted this animal back in jail. You don’t get spotted in an unknown restaurant 40 miles away unless someone reports it to the authorities. Who even knew this restaurant even existed? I don’t know if the food there is any good, but I will bet it is better than the food in the “Rankin county slammer.”

It looks like his (ex)wife may have set this up. Rankin and Madison counties are in the same judicial officials’ territories. He knew he could not be seen with her in Rankin county, but probably thought he would not be recognized in Flora, an almost unknown town in Madison county. If she did have something to do with this, more power to her. At least he is getting 3 meals and a bed.

Anonymous said...

I'm not an attorney, but I don't think she can drop the charges against him since it's Mardis vs. State of MS.

Anonymous said...

There is something to these type of people. I knew a guy in High school that beat up his girlfriend. She would have walked over hot coals for him. He moved on to another girl in college that he randomly beat on and she was the same way. He married another one that he was arrested 2 weeks prior to the wedding and she married him anyway. This ended when he killed himself on an ATV. I refer to them a girls because no woman would tolerate this behavior. I refer to him an a guy because no man would do this. Some women like it as much as the man does. I do not think this means it should happen it's just a fact. Its hard to care for her more than she cares for herself. If they have been seeing each other since the event where he almost killed her then left her for dead and flew off for a week I ask, why is my tax money being spend to house and prosecute him?

Anonymous said...

What is with those break a way glasses around his neck for his latest mug shots?

Anonymous said...

Plot twist: The wife set him up to be photographed breaking a court directed no-contact order. Meanwhile, while Todd is held without bail and experiencing the emotional rollercoaster of steroid withdrawals, Mrs. Mardis is liquidating assets and planning to flee the county with Todd's gym buddy - who so happens to be a RCSO.

Anonymous said...

I think the court should remove any minor children from these two people. Their bad decisions will always affect their children but removing them would eliminate the chance of physical harm. Then let the adults do what they want. If the next time he kills her then that would be on her for associating with him. I do understand the psychological issues surrounding abuse but there is nothing society can do because eventually he will get out of jail.

Anonymous said...

Does he work part-time for Richards as a leg buster?

Anonymous said...

Todd's gym buddy has his own problems right now with an investigation into over the top tactics with suspects.

Anonymous said...

One would have to believe she set him up on this out of rankin county trip, and I don’t blame her.She obviously told someone he was leaving Rankin county, or called from the rest room after they arrived at this restaurant in the middle of nowhere. I am also pretty sure he is or will experience steroid withdrawal symptons.

Anonymous said...

She should be charged with violating the order as well. Law Enf doesn't have the time to be saving her again, if she is going to go looking for trouble. Lock them both up. Sometimes we have to save stupid from themselves.

Um..... She married him. To me, that makes her the kind of woman who'd marry someone like him. She may be every bit as big a jerk as is he - only, he's more physically-powerful. They could both have been beautiful bullies. They wouldn't be the first sociopaths I've seen hunting in pairs - tag-teaming their victims (bullying... scamming... I remember a local real estate heiress and her plumber husband, destroying people basically as a pastime.)

It may be, that she deliberately goaded him into that fit of violence. Maybe she got more than she was planning to get (enough for a lucrative divorce). Documented injuries are worth big bucks, in the Divorce Market. Maybe she underestimated his rage and his physical power.

As for this latest chapter, I'd imagine she set up the meeting, and made it difficult for him to say "no". It was probably a combination of emotional blackmail (which is why the daughter was there), plus "urgent" business (doesn't she control his company?) they needed to discuss.

Maybe the daughter is helping to take him down?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
