State Issues Boil Water Notice for Jackson.... Again

The Mississippi State Department of Health issued the following statement.

STATE-IMPOSED BOIL WATER NOTICE CITY OF JACKSON SURFACE WATER SYSTEM
HAS HIGH TURBIDITY LEVELS. BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING

We routinely monitor your water for turbidity (cloudiness). Water samples collected 7/28/2022 showed turbidity levels of 1.0 to 2.5 turbidity units. This is above the standard of 0.30 turbidity units. Due to these high levels of turbidity, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

What should I do? What does this mean?

* DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

* Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.

* The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.

RESIDENTS WILL BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE ADVISORY IS LIFTED

Starting to see a pattern of incompetence among wannabe leadership. The truth hurts, but it’s past time to giving these people a hall pass.

I’m going to call out what that is already. I’m going to beat them to the punch and let you know that behind the scenes, there has been an effort to try to get Jackson to either privatize its water or do a concession. That has nothing to do with an overall effort to improve the conditions. What that is about is money, how do you profit from Jackson. We have to call that out. And I think that now it’s time to raise the question of whether Jackson has an equal protection claim against the state of Mississippi, not only in terms of an equitable distribution of resources, but we even have inequity in what we are allocated within the city that can only go to one portion of the city or to certain communities … when we asked for money to deal with our water system, which in large part interrupts distribution to South Jackson more than any other part of our city.

I also anticipate that this is something you want to talk about, too: People raise the issue of, well, you know, Jackson is fighting over a garbage contract. Well, so, the state is fighting over taxes, right? Other cities fight over garbage contracts, Jackson is just a city that is larger than every other city by far, and so we will always be in the news. Frustrations and battles over politics are nothing new. I think anyone who goes towards perpetuating that myth, that that’s an excuse not to help, we have to check. Because what was the excuse the last 40 years when they haven’t given Jackson the resources it needed? … That certainly isn’t a justification to say that your people don’t deserve the sustainability of water or the equity of how water is distributed.

There have been conversations between leadership and — I won’t say — but representation between the state saying that and, you know, even meeting with companies … I do more research than they give me credit for. I know that in Detroit, before it reached bankruptcy, they lost full control over their water systems … I think that the effort to have this duplicitous process by which we’ve got to get authorized for projects to fix our water system, it to dangle this over our head. To try to force us into the direction they want us to go.

… And might I mention that Jackson does not have some extensive or real history of illegal contract steering. And right know, you have Anna Wolfe doing a whole big story on the state of Mississippi, and the issues of DHS and potential improprieties of the state. So, this is hypocritical at best … This is more about the unstated position that they have towards Jackson when there’s big legislation that deals with Jackson. It’s about how do we take from Jackson. How do we take your airport? How do we privatize your water system? How do we regionalize your water treatment facilities? How do we look at taking the finances of Jackson every single time?

Perfect timing. Enjoy the weekend.

"Huh, Huh, Huh! They're monitoring our turdidity..."

Quite simply, the old firm of Thompson Davis & Danks has been taken under the new management of Johnson Yarbur Lamumba & Lamumba. It’s nothing to do with incompetence. The new management just has a wholly different way of operating the firm.

still nothing notifying the public, from the city

I don't stalk or even follow the mair. So, is the italicized post at 5:31 supposedly quoting him?

Yum, "cloud soup," fresh from the pot. They charge idiots $22.95 a bowl for such "nouvelle cuisine" in places like Destin, Orlando, and Pigeon Forge.

Anonymous said...

Why not make it permanent and be done with it?

Anonymous said...

In fairness, when most folks are getting the utility for free…residents should probably expect a bit less quality in the product.

Anonymous said...

Surely there is a legal basis for a class action lawsuit against Antar and the City of Jackson for all of the effects of their endless incompetence.

5:31. I hope you typed that and then copy/pasted into JJ, from notes. You definitely deserve credit for dreaming. Wow, but False.

July 29, 2022 at 5:31 PM -- It's not about state funding; it's about billing the customers for water. What a completely incompetent dumbass. But, it's the politicians' faithful side-step to blame someone else.

Most third world countries have issues suppling clean water so this is nothing new.

Is the zoo water OK? I ask because at some point we will have to go all-in Venezuela on harvesting zoo meat, so keep all that emergency protein, now on display walking circles on hoof, paw, and toe, on decent water.

Jackson' future cannot finish its fated descent fed on turbid zoo tacos, whether peacock or gosbock and may Jackson's savage decline into biblical apocalypse always be the albatross that hangs this punk mayor's aspirations to deceive by the turbidity of his circumlocutive oral flatulence.

@5:31 is from an April article quoting Lumumba.

That is direct quotes from Lumumba

KF, it would be easier for you to just announce when there is "no boil water notice." Now that would be newsworthy.

30, 40 and 50 years ago this was a beautiful city. Well respected, revered and envied….what does it say about the current leaders and his ilk? When I was a kid this was one helluva town. Brown blight has destroyed it like Roundup kills a vine. Why? I ask why does this need to happen? It’s not fair for the hard work of the predecessors and “builders and former leaders” of this once great city to see it go down the tubes. I love when KF has topics that cover the past of our once great city. The one I see before us now is indescribable.

The headline reads, "MSDH announces boil water notice for all surface water connections in Jackson".

What is the technical definition of a"surface water connection", please
?

Could the Mayor or the City be sued for the loss of value to my home?

"30, 40 and 50 years ago this was a beautiful city. Well respected, revered and envied..."

Let's not get too ridiculous. It was a much safer reasonably nice city but it was still Mississippi in the 60s, 70s, 80s. Jackson, along with all of the state, had its fair share of problems. The ignorant rednecks then in charge, with their racism, religious intolerance, social hypocrisy, and theft/graft also contributed a fair share to the metro area's, as well as the state's, current conditions. Replacing relatively wealthy ignorant white people with relatively poor ignorant black people didn't, wouldn't, and couldn't do anything except create a different set of problems for everyone who stayed around.

Black leadership yet they only want to call the state racists. Funny only Virgi from Belhaven Fondren area and republican Ashby Foote are the only whites in a leadership position.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
