The Lumumba Administration is holding a press conference on the water crisis right now. It is streamed live below.
Chief of Staff Dr. Safiya Omari is conducting the press conference. She said all areas should have running water.
After a few minutes, they started bragging about how much water they are passing out every day.
Anthony Warren asked why there has only been one press conference in the last two weeks. Dr. Omari says when the state issued the boil water notice, the administration needed to find out what the state required to lift the notice and did not want to give wrong information. She said thus they saw no need to have a press briefing.
Deputy Public Works Director said the ammonia leak cause "production" to fall, thus reducing water pressure.
Anthony Warren asked if any workers were sickened by the ammonia leak. Dr. Omari said she did not know if any workers were affected by the leak nor would she reveal such information due to HIPPA regulations.

Is this a commercial for coca-cola and Clark beverage?
Why do they keep sending bills for water that is contaminated
Has anyone asked where the mayor is?
File a foia request with the ms workers comp commission for that day forward and you will find out if anyone was injured.
@4:04 PM
We don’t have to ask. We know he is abroad, fighting against climate change.
Climate Change is the most critical and important challenge facing humanity in 2022z
"Why do they keep sending bills for water that is contaminated"
Hell, you're getting a bill?
Whoever his spokesperson is, I've heard 3rd graders read a written statement better....
Calling this a 3-ring circus would be a compliment.
The old HIPPA dodge. No, if an employee is injured they may reveal that, just like if a JPD officer is shot they can reveal that - duh!
They are treating y'all residents of Jackistan just like mushrooms - keep you in the dark and feed you BS.
Own it Jackistan voters!
Meanwhile the pipe leak behind my office that started in January is still not fixed after 5 phone calls from me and my neighbor has also called 4 or 5 times. It is a 4" line that has split and so about half of the water has spilling since January. Came again June 29th, said they will get back to us. All it needs is a collar.
Lame. That's all I can say. Any other city would be embarrassed, but not Jackson. The city is proud to be this awful.

Pay a plumber, subtract from your bill and attach letter of explanation to copy of invoice.

I’m just happy that Dr. Omari corrected the mistake when she read that the new water line to south Jackson was not a 4 foot line, it was a 48 inch line.
I kid you not. Listen to the first few minutes of the video.
Obviously none of her degrees are in math. Or common sense.
Ill bet your 3rd grader knows better.
what a load of bullshit. Along with the ass-kissing by the Clark Bottling guy, saying that this was not the fault of anybody. And Omari saying that the needs were several millions that the city doesn't have - but not addressing why the city (water/sewer) doesn't have that money.
ITS BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T MAKE PEOPLE PAY THEIR BILLS - FOR FIVE YEARS!
That results in no money for maintenance; no money for repairs; no money for improvements. So you send the Mayor to DC and hope he brings home barrels of dollars - or you blame the state for not bailing you out. But, these failures are no body's fault.
How about getting a manager in that knows something about operating the plant? How about getting the staff required (by law) to run the plant? Hey, it would be a better use of the city's dollars than fixing the Grove Park Golf Course. Or of course, than operating what is called a zoo.
How about actually managing the system rather than blaming everybody else and patting yourselves on the back for getting lots of companies to donate water that you can claim credit for having 'done something'?
Hell, why ask these questions - they have all been asked before. But this is to a group who's leader doesn't understand the difference between four feet and 48". Or rather - that there is no difference.
Anybody want to bet on the actual filing of an application for dollars from the state ARPA funds, and a double down that if they actually get a completed application done in time what its chances of success in the competitive analysis of all the applications?
He addresses the problem or he talks about it? There's a difference.
Is anybody in Jackson going to find the testicular fortitude to tell the emperor he has no clothes?
This it beyond ridiculous, biggest shit show ever for a City Government & da Mayor had his people do the ExplaINING. HOW PITYFUL CAN YOU GET?
Could they address the piles of trash on our neighborhood’s streets as well? Oh and the 24/7 sewer pump on High Street is a great look for Jackson. But this pretend doctor, fake intellectual would not know because she lives in Madison County!
A Chief of Staff handling a press conference like this?
"Doctor" Omari must think we're all as ignorant as she is. No law prevents her from disclosing whether unnamed workers were injured or exposed. (BTW, anyone can report this potential exposure to OSHA and they will investigate and any citations resulting from such investigation will be public record). For the record, it's "HIPAA" (not "HIPPA") and Omari is not a covered entity under that law if she is not a healthcare provider and is not revealing information gleaned from health insurance records. (Health insurance does NOT cover workers' compensation claims.)
To 4:44, calling the city is a waste of time. There will be no record of anyone having called nor will anyone remember it. I have had better luck using the online reporting system, which immediately emails a confirmation of the report you submitted and also sends an update when the report is acted on & closed. You can also review other citizen's reports to see if you're duplicating. I recommend including photos illustrating the issue and a very specific address where the issue is found. Go to https://www.jacksonms.gov/311-action-line/. Good luck...
This is all for show only. Simply an effort to try to smooth over the scalding editorial TV3 gave on the city leadership. Nice try folks, but it only shows the lack of leadership that was pointed out in the editorial.
7:05- no wonder they can’t get the water billing issue resolved! LOL
The Coca Cola guy acted if this was some type of awards ceremony. The “ expert” Mary Carter deputy director of water is looking out for your health. Total clown show. If I heard correctly they are counting two shifts of 12 positions as only 12 vacancies even though 24 people are needed to fill them? lunacy¿ And to be clear, Ben Coker was not making a public relations appearance on behalf of Clark Beverage/Coca Cola - that much is obvious. There is no question the city that the epa called out for improper (fraudulent?) sampling will handle this round properly. Send out the bat signal for Erin Brockovich.
Omari was part of the fabulous Derek Henderson crew when he was in charge of the Mississippi NAACP. Never ending grifters.
Why does anyone want to live in Jackson? Name 3 good reasons.
939 - Ben Coker works for Clark Beverage? Hell, it sounded like he was a spokesperson/ass kisser for the Emporer with no clothes.
Chok got himself a major award for changing communities due to his commitment to public service.
He's changing Jackson, no doubt...plenty of evidence of that. But the public service part is a joke, and should be recognized instead for his absolute incompetence.
it is by no stretch of the imagination a HIPAA violation to release the number, if any, of people affected by a healthcare issue.
"Doctor" Omari did her Municipal Administration internship under Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
7:05 - she didn't have a math problem, she was merely correcting a mistake in terminology. Whoever wrote the speech doesn't understand that you don't refer to pipe sizes in feet, you refer to them in inches. She caught it, she corrected it. Go nitpick something else. I'm surprised you didn't go ballistic over "people power".
Spin Doctor Omari has a PhD in bull shitting, but the JPS alumni sheeple of Jackistan believed every word.
What is her PhD for that qualifies her to be called "doctor?" It must be a "terminal degree" to be addressed as "doctor." What an ego.
KF you should change post title from "addresses" to "talks about" because nothing was addressed as July 7, 2022 at 7:32 PM mentioned.
The "Boiled" New City...
6:13
Hahahahaha!!
Nice try “Dr.” Omari.
7:26pm 5 yrs of unpaid bills , even with interest, wouldn't have come close to generating enough money to fix Jackson's water system.
You deliberately omit that the former administration's attempt to replace meters ended up with defective meters and a law suit against the company.
But, it's the cluelessness of your comment that really stuns me. How could you not know that it has taken decades of neglect for the system to be this broken?
It frankly disappointed me to see minority leaders duplicate the corruption of corrupt white politicians and continue to fuel racism rather than try to change the system to make corruption more difficult, but greed is greed and power is power.
And,as long as you and those like you remain loyal to your tribes and excuse your lack of ethics and even ordinary mistakes, we all get screwed.
Try to be individually independent and rid yourself of your cult mentality.
You are the poster child who looks for easy solutions and reassurance and attention from others .
Pipe is usually referred to in feet when discussing length. It is usually referred to in inches when discussing size (diameter).
Example: I laid 500 feet of 48" pipe. Or I laid 4 feet of 48" pipe. Or I laid 7000 feet of 12" pipe.
The inches would be the diameter (2x the radius).
You are the poster child who ...
A poster child chiding another supposed poster child. ROFLMAO
Most construction has terminology. MDOT might have a 3:1 backslope. A roofer would call that a 4/12 roof pitch. But it's the same thing.
10:43
Thank you “Dr.” Omari for explaining how to get the diameter.
Uhh what is a radius?
Is that more than one radio?
Is that like a radius tire?
My PHD in experimental social psychology didnt teach that.
