Nathaniel Garner stands accused of ambushing two Jackson police officers last week. He shot one officer in the leg. The officer survived. An affidavit filed yesterday as part of his arrest warrant provides the chilling details of the attack of the attack:
On August 19, 2021 Jackson Police Narcotics Officers Lampley and Mayes were patrolling the area of Bailey Ave & maple Street (Jaycee Park) when they observed a silver in color Chevy Impala driving erratically. Detectives attempted to stop this vehicle when the vehicle fled from officers. After the officers lost sight of the vehicle they than began canvassing the area. While canvassing the area, officers learned that the driver wrecked the vehicle at the intersection of Erie Street & Rondo Street. The suspect exited the vehicled and fled to the porch of a nearby abandon residence where he took an offensive position behind a couch. The suspect then opened fire with an AR-style pistol or both officers as they stopped at this intersection. Officer Mayers was struck in the leg and chest multipole times. The suspect fired at least 25 rounds into the passenger door of the officer's patrol car.
While on scene, detectives were able to locate a cellphone belonging to Nathaniel Garner. Detectives also spoke to Garner's girlfriend, xxxx xxxxxxxxx. She stated that Garner came to her residence xx xxxxxx xxxxx and told her that he "did something bad" and needed to leave town. Garner changed clothes and fled the location. A six-man photo line-up was shown to Officer Mayes and he identified the image of Nathaniel Garner as the subject that shot him. Detectives also learned that Garner is a convicted felon.
Garner later surrendered to police in the parking lot of his grandmother's church, Stronger Hope Baptist Church. Her preacher, Reverend Ronald Moore, accompanied him as he surrendered. Garner is held without bond at the Raymond Detention Center.
The affidavit stated Garner had a previous felony conviction A Hinds County grand jury indicted Garner in December 2015 for attempted aggravated assault with a weapon and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Garner pleaded guilty in August 2016 to attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. WAPT reported the assault victim was a police officer, but JJ has not been able to confirm that statement.
Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green approved the plea bargain and sentenced him to serve 20 years in prison but suspended 13 years of the sentence. She gave him credit for time served and also placed him under supervised probation for 3 years. The District Attorney agreed to remand the shooting into an occupied vehicle charge. Public Defender Raymond Carter represented the defendant.
Garner served his 50% and returned to the streets where he allegedly and apparently created more mayhem. Judge Green revoked his probation yesterday.

Blue Lives Don’t Matter (in Jackson)
Confession. I am a Honky. I have been one my entire life. If I decide to kill a few folks, or shoot them up, where do I go to get my "Get out of Jail Card". I am a good boy and might be able to get my momma's pastor to go with me when I turn myself in to the PoPos
Copy and Paste King. Fish.
Tommie Green needs to be locked up with all of these animals she lets loose on the public (you)
How on God's green Earth does that cold hearted, hate for everyone but thugs disgusting Tomie Green sleep at night knowing all those lives she's responsible for wrecklessly (purposely) killing. @#$%&!
@6:23PM
Kingfish, we know this is you. May I add: You don’t have to heart to pull the trigger.
Know someone doing more time for credit card fraud, used fake names, not even big bucks, not stolen identity in another state. Hurts to read these fact. He will kill, he is homicidal, does not think like normal person.
The citizens of Jackson have the city they want. The citizens of Hinds county have the Judiciary they want. I can’t be bothered because I live in a gated community in Flowood.
Tomie Green is the single most serious threat to public safety in Jackson. And there's nothing anybody can do about it. Get out while you can.
You know they are from Jackson when they think not being able to "pull the trigger" is a legitimate insult.
The rest of us law abiding wimps need to stay in our own towns, where we just don't have the heart to commit murder.
Don't worry, 8:39pm...Jackson is all yours.
You've honestly earned it.
As 7:52AM said, ultimately this is Democracy at work. And bulletproof criticism that judges should never be elected.
It should also be noted that the cop who wasn't shot was Lampley - the one who has been on desk duty forever because the mayor and the DA filed trumped up charges of murder that Judge Peterson threw out for lacking any evidence.
Has any one single person done more to harm Hinds County and Jackson than Tomie Green? I submit not.
I keep waiting to read that Green has enrolled in a program down in Hattiesburg that promises to deal with her bizarre, mental issues and actions. I have faith she will wake up one morn and make that call requesting help. They turned Tiger Woods around, right?
You get what you vote for. Those idiots in her district
