Correction: We goofed. The post originally stated the deceased had a brother who was the boyfriend of the late Kennedy Hobbs. The information came from a long-time reliable source. Social media seemed to verify the information but a mistake was made. JJ offers sincere apologies for the error. Fire away. We're big boys.
Recent MSU grad killed Saturday
Yet another young woman was murdered last weekend in Jackson. The JPD press release merely says Jertia Evans was gunned down by an AR-15 and a .40 caliber handgun. Just another entry on the murder ledger. As usual, there is more to the story.
A car filled with savages (no other way to describe them) drove by and fired numerous .223 and .40 rounds into her Barbara Ann Drive home as she sat outside her grandmother's home Saturday night. Several rounds struck Evans, killing her. A flower that was a young woman's life became crushed rose petals, trampled under the barbarism that is Jackson, Mississippi.
Mississippi State grad? Yes, the late Tia Evans recently graduated from Mississippi State University. The young go-getter earned her degree in Fashion Design & Merchandising while running her own hair business. Not even the significant injuries she suffered in an April wreck could stop her from graduating as she hobbled across the stage to get that coveted diploma. She was 23 years old. Her family held a celebration for her graduation at the Iron Horse Grill, so proud were they of this precious young woman. At least her mother got to see her graduate, small consolation that may be.
That video and the accompanying message says it all. Gunned down in the beginning of a new life after accomplishing so much. Her name was Tia Evans.

She needed more guns
RIP. You were a diamond in the rough that is Jackson.
Two talented, beautiful young women, gunned-down in cold blood before they could escape the cesspool that the City of Jackson has become.
Are you happy gun show visitors??? THIS IS ON YOU!
You've identified some key connections between these recent, and quite tragic losses of life. Gun violence like this needs to be treated like virus. The public health approach is a proven one. It takes funding, but it can be successful. Before anyone swoops in and belittles the credible messengers, take a look at the research: https://cvg.org/what-we-do/ https://1vp6u534z5kr2qmr0w11t7ub-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/2019_09_20_CV_Evidence_Table.pdf
So many connections here - JPD could probably take out a large chunk of crime if it just solved these 3 murders! But they won't and Jxn will keep being Jxn. Sad to watch my hometown spin out of control!
We need less guns.
I am horrified and absolutely heart broken for these families. This is just too much. Nobody should have to live like this.
This is too much to be a coincidence. First "Joquan" was murdered, then his girlfriend Kennedy Hobbs, then days later his sister Tia? Did Joquan owe the wrong people money?
@12:34 PM - Troll
12:34, yes I am a happy gun show visitor, but this murder is NOT ON ME! I secure and maintain possession of my firearms, and should any fool try to take one, they will be dispatched with extreme prejudice.
This murder is on the culture that allows and rewards this type of behavior. I have no doubt that the weapons used were stolen or otherwise illegally obtained. Gun grabbers keep trying to blame legal gun owners, but it is not they that perpetrate this horror on the innocent.
@12:34 I guess blaming it on gun show visitors isn't any less silly than blaming it on white flight as per that liberal hippie chick over at MFP.
Blaming gun shows is analogous to blaming car dealerships for drunk driving deaths.
I only watch Law & Order, but it would seem like this is something even JPD could figure out! It’s almost like the bad guys are leaving clues for them! Come on JPD, put 2 & 2 together!
Imagine the movie Mad Max. Imagine people blaming guns for the deaths in that movie and not blaming the culture. Imagine thinking that tightening restrictions on the one law-abiding person in that movie would reduce murders.
Two beautiful, smart, talented young ladies that had the whole world in front of them. They were taken out of this world by monsters who do not value life. Rest in peace beautiful angels...I know Jesus welcomed you with open arms. The devil will get their murderers for all of eternity.
Put all JPD uniformed officers on unpaid Leave.
Call in the Feds!
Lock Jackson down and find these fools!
Make it a priority!
Your loved one could be next! I’m good, trained by the best, my dad!
Far worse than the old wild west.
Until you have immediate response -- the gallows at noon -- this will continue forever.
"Jackson can't protect it's women."
From the movie The Jackel. Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, Sidney Portier
Absolute tragedy. Yet, Lumumba will do nothing. The violence is clearly gang related or personal vendetta related. Until the administration begins to crack down on the sources of this senseless violence and puts pressure on the courts to see that bail is set high and charges are followed through, this plague of horror and violence will continue to take the lives of the innocent. At least put aside your pride and reach out to federal and state law enforcement agencies for gang control purposes. If you vote for Lumumba in tomorrow's election you will be making a personal contribution to the future horror and violence that is bound to befall this city.
next-
This is gang retaliation. I'm not saying either of the young women were involved, but I'm suspecting the brother/boyfriend was. Both of these young ladies appear to have tried their damnedest to get an education and get away, but fate had other plans. I truly feel for the families and hope both young ladies rest in peace.
It’s peculiar people won’t acknowledge the gun culture is to blame when we are the only developed country with this problem. We simply have to accept the murder culture if we want to have a gun culture. They go hand in hand.
What we are witnessing is a poisonous culture devouring it's young and they don't care.
For if they did, this would stop. It's that simple.
The culture and the City are one in the same.
It's not gun culture; it's thug culture
Why can this not be found on other media outlets. The string of events that have unfolded should be receiving national media attention. Hmmmm. Could it be due to the fact that there is an election looming?
Sherlock Holmes......."My Dear Watson, There is no such thing as a coincidence"!
When are the people of Jackson going to get fed up with the crime?
When are the people of Jackson going to elect people who will do something about this instead of just talk in front of cameras about it?
One of the problems (as I see it) is the elected officials in Jackson would refuse any outside help to address this issue if/when offered. The Citizens of Jackson deserve better from their elected officials.
This is heartbreaking. No family deserves this.
It's amazing to me how fast the Dodge Neon has disappeared from the landscape. I mean you still see a few Chevrolet Cavaliers around and they quit production 12 years before the Neon.
This conversation is more meaningful than most conversation about these issues because Black communities do not want to solve the problem. There are never any witnesses or any assistance given to law enforcement from these communities. The real conversation is lack of family, lack of fathers in the house, the never ending suckling at the government teet and the idea that you cannot tell on fellow black people. as long as this culture exists so will these types of useless deaths. I bet you won't post this Kingfish.
The people of Jackson will continue to elect people who are no better than the thugs that run wild in the city. Most of the people in Jackson know several thugs, some of them may be family members. They elect people who will be soft on crime so their friend, family member will not be put in prison. While this may let the friend, family member to continue with their life of crime the cost is some friends, family members will become the prey of the thugs.
When will they realize that for them to protect the thugs every once in a while they will have to sacrifice a friend or family member? So far Jackson still believes in protecting the thugs.
This child's blood is on the hands of the voters in Jackson , Ms.. There is a 100% chance the perps already had criminal records and a very high chance they should have already been behind bars but were released by one of the local kangaroo courts.
Gangster type shit for sure. Damn, damn, damn!
How do they know it was an AR15? Was it left at the scene? If left at the scene, has it been traced? Stolen, bought legally, etc.? No stated model of the .40 pistol though.
Yes, I know, what difference does it make?
To me it's just jumping on the buzzword bandwagon without any technical knowledge of the subject.
@12:45: I can't get to the link you posted and I would be interested to read. Can you check that link and repost please?
12:52 pm "We need less guns." Some other poster "This is on you gun show folks."
I have a simple solution. Outlaw guns for criminals. Very quickly after that law is passed, they will all bring their guns to the gun crusher and the problem of criminals killing whomever they want will be solved.
I have a flying pig to sell to whomever believes this.

F you, you heartless jerk. Why would you even take time to read and comment if you don't care about these innocent lives lost???
I approved your comment so I could explain. He is not being heartless. He is referring to the Jackson leadership. A business owner was getting pummeled by crime. She went to City Council meeting, told them her problem, all Tillman that old fish eyed fool said was next.
3:10 PM
>There are never any witnesses or any assistance given to law enforcement from these communities.
But also there's a problem of the JPD candidates also being gang members as KF has previously covered as well.
Lynn needs to crank up the firing squad and create a few vacancies on Death Row for these cowardly pond scum.
While I agree this is a senseless tragedy, to make the entire Black community a partner to this criminal behavior or say Blacks are ok with this is insane and maybe even racist. The thugs who did this are responsible. You cant take a few problems and define an entire race. Please stop doing that. Jackson voters arent the problem. We dont blame the people who voted for Trump as responsible for storming the capitol. Each individual makes their own choices. Believe it or not, most of the people in Jackson are law abiding citizens who go to work and want to live a productive life. Problem with Jackson is that most of the people with resources, black and white, have packed up and left. The people who are in public office arent the best because the people with real business sense are making way too much money to turn to public service in place with as many problems as Jackson.
Could the mayor take a stronger stand on crime....definitely. But he is putting guns in this kids hands and encouraging them to commit crime...no.
Someone in one of the comments even mentioned government handouts. Are those what Brett Favre received when he received governmental funds for a speaking engagement that he never spoke at???
Let's acknowledge we have a societal problem at work in the capital city and work to address the issue without making it a black issue.
Keep smoking that medical marijuana, dreamer at 6:10.
@6:10 PM
You are completely delusional if you think violent crime is NOT endemic to every urban shithole in America. This isn’t just a Jackson problem.
2:16… it isn’t “gun culture”. It is a culture that doesn’t have morals, normal culturative values and, MOST OF ALL, home training. I’ve been around weapons my entire life. I’ve never killed in the “heat of the moment”. Peddle your bullshit elsewhere.
12:57 "That's Mr. Deplorable to You" - thanks. Seriously, thanks. Your clear and concise tying together the people (names/positions) make it possible to understand the connection. KF's attempt at cute prose and whatever didn't help those of us that are either not into the day-by-day accounting with names attached, or that don't have a program handy to keep the players in the gang violence in Jackson straight. I read his post through twice, and started again but still couldn't tie exactly who was who amongst the recently dead.
And I fall in line with your assumption - and that the two girls were just guilty by association and made the retaliation clear to many others.
As to why this continues in Jackson, it makes one wonder if Me, Kenneth was correct in his proclamations over the boo boo situation in his neighborhood with his comments about the 'drug boys' down on the corner. Easy theory to believe, wouldn't be the first Mayor that had to deal with crime amongst the various drug dealers; difference is, Frank at least went after the group that was competition. Right now it doesn't appear that any of them are being chased.
@6:10 While generalizations are not good there is usually a reason for them. Do you see this type behavior in predominately white towns and cities? This is a black community problem. You see all of this mess in cities and towns that are majority black and have majority or completely black leadership. No one wants to talk about it but cities like Detroit, Chicago, LA, etc have electing 100% democratic leadership since the 60's and have been on a steady decline since. If a white republican ran in Jackson he would get less than 5% of the vote. If a black republican ran he would get less than 15% of the vote. Part of the black community problem is that the idea that republicans will take your free stuff away and democrats will give you more free stuff is a big problem. A republican mayor that was supported by the community could have chance of turning things to a better direction. Focus on crime reduction, education and general improvements might keep the few businesses and tax paying families stay in the city. As things are going you keep electing democrats, they tell you what they are going to do for you and you believe them and they do squat. They are laughing at you voters for being fools. Try switching parties and supporting the other party for a while and see where that goes. Or ride the democrat train down the drain. with the democrat leadership everyone worth having will eventually leave Jackson for greener pastures or die out. Jackson will soon be Mad Max style.
This is another senseless tragedy; another life lost unnecessarily. What is the solution? Banning gun shows to reduce the number of guns on the street, is not likely to have any impact. I doubt criminals purchase their artillery from vendors at the trade mart. Rather, they are most likely stolen from homes and cars. Conflict resolution classes? Unfortunately, those in need of such are not likely to attend, as evidenced by the "no shows" at JPD's effort last week. Community involvement and intervention by faith leaders? There is potential for success IF ...strategies are targeted toward prevention with young people BEFORE they become too involved with the streets;
IF a comprehensive approach is utilized --- one that focuses on providing support and assistance to families, including teaching parenting skills.
IF there is espousal of a compassionate truth telling philosophy. Accountability in spite of circumstances ---though poverty may be an explanation, it should not be accepted as an excuse.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, IF those who decide to become involved are committed and consistent in their efforts, recognizing much is required, and that intervention is needed for the long haul.
I don't care what her name was.....another typical death in the black community.
The only reason you're not hearing from mayor, is he hasn't figured a way to put a racist spin on the two murders. Maybe after he consults Donna "BOO HOO" Ladd they can put their two braincells together to come up with a excuse their local citizens will buy.
Its hard to feel sorry for black community when they have created this community standard them self and are willing to accept it unless it may have something to do with a "white" shooter, then there is going to be all kinds of calls for "Justice", prayer meetings and some community action (To be named at a later date).
Thanks for the correction KF. F’up situation all the same.
I agree the Mayor has done Nothing to help detour crime. Look at Florida and Polk County where the legislatures have tied their hands. The 12 and 14 year olds and the 17 year old that was ambushed recently are just an example of what John Neal was talking about. You cannot rehabilitate or have criminal reform for hardened people no matter what the age. To incarcerate non violent with violent criminals doesn’t work either. We MUST LISTEN to LEO’s with RESPECT whether we like it or not. Tia Evans death was a slap to every young person who has decided to contribute positively to society. My heart breaks for her family. The parents of the two boys in Vicksburg today where one was killed because PARENTS chose to leave a loaded handgun with access to children should be punishable with jail time. This boy will now have to live with killing his cousin. These are tragedies created by neglect. Parent are the only ones who can teach these lessons beginning at home. That is God’s commandment! Thank you for every law enforcement officer especially the ones heard praying in Florida, “Please surrender, I do not want to shoot but had the courage to do so! They have a right to go home each night.
@3:40 - Most of your diatribe has zero association with and no correlation with this young lady's death or the culture that caused it. While sad and tragic, the Vicksburg situation has no similarity or connection. And God is not going to handle this for us. He gave us the ability to handle problems of every nature. Whether or not we pick up that challenge is up to us. We can hold hands and pray for the families or 'we' can bow up and take back the streets.
It would be hard to imagine the cities of the Wild West being any more dangerous than Jackson or other major cities in America today.
