A day or so ago Mayor Bloviator blamed all of this on "those gun shows."

That is so 2010.

He is getting his rhetoric from Bloomberg and his anti-gun crowd. No original thoughts come out of his empty head.

There are background checks at gun shows.

Guns don't shoot by themselves.

A better statement would be something like "it's because of people leaving firearms unsecured in their vehicles." Even then, guns still don't shoot by themselves and the theft of a firearm is automatically a felony.

How about unsupervised yutes?

Not one question from reporters about how many guns seized so far came from gun show sales - in any case, the results touted today from crime control measures are meager at best.

golly gee. if there was some sort of accountability for judges who can’t help handing out blessings...the police aren’t there to prevent crime only arrest those who do.

Those morons don't realize that their "rocket launcher" is an empty fiberglass AT4 tube that is perfectly legal for anyone to own and is not even legally considered a firearm or destructive device. It's an empty fiberglass tube you can buy for a couple of hundred bucks for display. They either are completely ignorant or just have it there on the table to scare ignorant reporters.

I can't believe Fox 40 interrupted Hot Bench for such useless waste of the public airwaves. The next time I want to know nothing, I'll tune into a city press conference.

Forty Brown Men said...

Simple. It's time for a crime summit. We need to get city and county leadership and a cross section of about 175 youth from the Metro together (fish fry with ribs for 400) and sit down and talk about this thing. Break out into group sessions of 12 for four hours, reconvene and do some white-board and flip chart stuff.

What's so difficult? We're all in this together and, believe it or not, we're all looking for the same result. Right?

Anonymous said...

" Simple. It's time for a crime summit "

Hell lets go beyond that.

A "Town Hall" to facilitate "dialogue" has been proven to be more effective.

Hell, that would be another opportunity for the "community" leaders to hand out worthless custom engraved award plaques to each other.

Yeah, (I'm being factitious)

I would love to ask one question at this "press conference". What percentage of the perps of these violent crimes should have already been in jail from prior charges but were released by your kangaroo courts ? May even see a pattern here if you look close enough....DUH .

Anonymous said...

Here's my question: Is the city investigating possible gang affiliations when it investigates homicides?

Follow-up questions: If not, then why not? If so, then what percentage of homicides are believed to be gang-related? And what, if anything, is the city doing to address gangs and gang-culture?

Law abiding citizen here.....I've purchased several rifles and pistols at the gun shows and not once was a background check run. The reason I was told there wasnt one was that the firearms purchased were used. No telling how many times they've changed hands. Doesn't really matter to me though since the feds dont know I have them.

Turn it over to the mayor of Pelahatchie. She will solve this crime problem quick!

@8:24.. a FFL Dealer runs a background check on weapons, new or used. I, as an individual, selling firearms that are individually owned, not selling as a business, CANNOT run a background check. No means of doing so. I Jack the price up to unbuyable stupid price range when asked the price of a weapon by a person I don’t trust. Weapons used for crimes in Jackson AREN’T coming from the gun shows. Lamumbalot, and Stokes, likes to blame the shows along with the pandemic for the killing stats. You can’t prove them wrong without research that is impracticable for an individual to achieve.

"I've purchased several rifles and pistols at the gun shows and not once was a background check run. The reason I was told there wasnt one was that the firearms purchased were used."

If your post is true, it had nothing to do with the fact that you purchased at a gun show or that the firearm was used. Most who set up booths are licensed firearms dealers and are required to run background checks per federal law. A few are private dealers and are not required to run background checks if it's a private sale or out of the trunk of a vehicle in the parking, but that's rare, although perfectly legal.

As a private individual, I can sell you any gun I own and you can sell me yours...no paperwork required...just as I could sell you my lawnmower or pogo stick.

Anonymous said...

@8:24 That only applies if you bought them from an individual and not a licensed dealer. Otherwise the dealer broke the law. Buying from an individual is not really exclusive to gun shows since you can privately sell a gun in your home, at deer camp, in the Walmart parking lot, and anywhere else.legal to have a firearm.

Gun shows are a political boogeyman but in reality dealers at gun shows run the exact same background check and use the same paperwork they would in their brick and mortar location. Private sellers at gun shows can also sell their guns privately anywhere else. The fact that a transaction happens at a gun show changes nothing legally for any buyer or seller.

Fix the problem said...

As long as they keep pointing fingers, crime will keep rising

Anonymous said...

For "law abiding citizen"....You bought a gun form an INDIVUDAL not a FFL licensed seller. Gun shows have both types of dealers about 90% are FFl licensed.

8:24, bet you get those illegal drugs you’re taking from the gun shows also; and without a prescription, right?

Jackson and their leaders are a joke. They are uneducated and unskilled. That simply do not possess the needed training or ethics to make tough designs. Simply put, they are in way over their head.

Of course you can acquire guns. It’s a constitutional right. What the dummies in Jackson don’t understand is that it’s the entire breakdown of the family and acceptance of bad behavior that eventually leads to gun violence. It’s not gun shows. It’s not the Wuhan virus. It’s masses of uneducated broken homes combined with drugs and alcohol.

Guns are in the possession of all sorts of citizen across this state. Every color and every social-economic background. But for some reason that nobody wants to confront, it’s really concentrated on Jackson.

JPD should be ashamed. They have lost any ability to be a moral compass.

How about fixing the f***ing water and sewer system, Antar?

'Law abiding citizen' purposefully casts a negative shadow by conveniently leaving out a number of details. Yup, we believe you.

1:35 AM, don’t take the bait. The definition of several is at least 3; so, 8:24 is claiming to have purchased at least 3 guns (or 3 rifles and 3 pistols, so 6? Maybe 8:24 will clarify) from “gun shows and not once was a background check run.”

So, 8:24 just happened to purchase at least 3 to 6 guns from individuals i.e. all go those FFL’s that have probably 99%+ of the guns for sale at the show…just happened to not have what 8:24 was looking for, but those individual stragglers did.

Odds are, this didn’t happen. Got to learn how to spot a high odds disingenuous post 1:35.

The gun show line is a leftist tactic for the poor, uneducated fools too lacking in common sense to know better; and the so-called educated, propagandized by type B white collar professors with tenure and fat cat retirements at the expense of student loans and tax payers.

The gun shows aren’t responsible for the violence in leftist run cities any more so that the gun shows would be responsible for the illegal drug problem.

Gun shows are just another excuse for the extreme failures of leftists run cities.

"Lamumbalot, and Stokes, likes to blame the shows along with the pandemic for the killing stats. You can’t prove them wrong without research that is impracticable for an individual to achieve."

Actually, that research has already been done. You can look it up. Turns out that almost zero criminals get their guns at gun shows. The National Institute of Justice, the research arm of the U.S. Department of Justice, has studied this for decades and found that about 2% of criminals' guns come from gun shows (that includes guns illegally possessed, but never otherwise illegally used by the criminals).

But apparently 100% of gun haters are idiots. That doesn't take any research.

Here's The Deal... said...

What Antar, the younger, and his minions is really attempting to do, as concealed as their plan may be, is this: If they can shift the perception of blame to the white community, or white men in general (and 99% of the booths at a gun show are run by white men), then they can get the low-information crowd to deny the fact that the real problem is the almost total breakdown of the family unit and morals in the black community.

How complicated is that? For decades these people blamed problems in their community on job discrimination, lack of opportunity, poorly funded schools and racism. It's real tough to do any of that now, since economic opportunity, runaway spending at JPS, equal opportunity at the employment door and every other door imaginable is wide open.

They scramble daily for a believable way to blame their problem on white folk.

Moreover, why did JPD display the “rocket launcher” during the presser?

"Moreover, why did JPD display the “rocket launcher” during the presser?"

You're just too easy. Antar hates the police and is disgusted by the military. He knew, subliminally, many would associate that hardware with the military, as with the Thompson Tank...and that would ratchet up his support group who dislike both the PoPo and the military.

Were there some racist Civil War muskets on display? You know, put in evidence in 1865.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
