Update (3:00 PM): There was definitely a kaboom.
SpaceX is about to launch the SN9 vehicle. The mission is streamed below.
The Everyday Astronaut Youtube channel reported:
SpaceX will be conducting a 10 km test flight of their SN9 prototype vehicle. This flight will be a repeat of the largely successful SN8 test flight, with some possible minor flight profile changes. SN9 will lift off from Boca Chica, Texas under the power of its three Raptor engines. The Raptor engines will shut off one by one during ascent to decrease loads and acceleration on the vehicle. At apogee, the single Raptor engine still burning will initiate the vertical-to-horizontal flip before shutting off. SN9 will make use of its body flaps to keep it stable during descent. Prior to landing, SN9 will ignite two of its Raptor engines to reorientate itself back into a vertical position and perform a propulsive landing.

Not going to Mars anytime soon!
Rest in Peace SN 9.
Ka-BOOM! Great job, Elon.
Yeah, they'll have a million people on Mars in ten...make that nine years.
kingfish! I vote for some old Mighty Mouse Cartoons, instead. What are my chances?

That thing is a beast! Wow!
Elon will get Biden to give him another $2 billion because his business models all rely on government handouts. If the US Gov wont tove it to him then he will get it from China.
“Going to Mars everybody”....mmmm not like that Bra’h. Would think he was watching a New Year’s Eve bottle rocket rather than a multimillion dollar space craft..
@10:00 - what are you talking about? Plenty of aerospace companies work with the government on all sorts of projects that are best handled by private industry. Do you have the same feelings about Lockheed and Boeing and every other government contractor?
Lockheed and Boeing are not chasing a boondoggle about putting a million people on Mars by 2030. There are many articles, web pages, YouTube videos showing how absolutely batshit insane that effort is. That's like taking everyone in the Jackson metro area to Mars. Twice.
Government contractors that are working on legitimate efforts are one thing. Playing with multi-million dollar Estes model rockets and blowing them up is another.
Musk is way out there, but he's got money and pushes science fictiony things, so internet nerds and redditors love him and do not question him. Look up debunkings of the Hyperloop and his idiotic underground electric driving tunnels, not to mention his straight-out-of-a-sci-fi-horror-movie Neuralink.
@1:07, you sound incredibly jealous of Elon Musk. I am guessing you haven’t accomplished shit more than some Al Bundy High School football championship. Nothing you said matters. Elon founded the world’s top automaker, the world’s top space company, and now the world’s top Internet Service Provider. Elon Musk is changing the world and has made thousands of Americans rich with stocks. Elon Musk has saved this country and will save humanity. I wish I was a woman so I could give Elon Musk even more babies. He has 12 kids.
