Sit Down and Shut Up!

Questioning shutdowns will apparently earn a shutdown. Watch what happens when someone attempts to debate restaurant shutdowns this morning.

What took place was disgusting to watch.  Santelli was asking reasonable questions and there is certainly a reasonable debate that can be held over shutdowns.  Reasonable.  Apparently such a word escape's Sorkin's vocabulary as pretty boy immediately shut down Santelli.   This exchange is a perfect example of why the media is in such disfavor and  conspiracy theories abound.   Quite a few doctors and authorities such as the National Bureau of Economic Research have asked the same questions.  Shutting down such reasonable debate simply gives more ammunition to the kooks.

Kingfish note: Once upon a time, a smug punk such as Sorkin would've been tarred and feathered. Unfortunately, those days have passed.

All hail Science the new Religion.

If he was more under control and not screaming wildly, other people may have taken the “question” more seriously. So many people today think being the loudest makes you the most correct.

From experience, I can say the only people that fear open debate are thieves and liars.

Kingfish, you said "someone attempts to debate restaurant shutdowns this morning"

That's not a debate, that's a toddler having a full on meltdown. The best way to handle a toddler like that is to ignore it until they whine themselves out. I'm guessing you don't have kids?

“All hail Science the new Religion.”
At least when you can distort the “science” to support your politics. Science is good stuff, but too often today, as alluded to in the quote, imperfect, incomplete, and distorted data are used as a weapon for political purposes, as we have seen with the COVID pandemic.

God help us even more if something more potentially deadly than COVID comes along. The pussies in control the media and many governments both here and abroad would put us back into the Stone Age.

If a libtard dem media "star" says it's "the science," we have to accept it as fact, or the Stasi/SS/Gestapo/Deep-State FBI will pay us a visit.

It's the new normal. Lock and load.

All white males need to sit down and shut up. I am sick of hearing your asinine and arrogant opinions. You are the most if selfish and ignorant demographic on the planet.

Why is the guy on the right so angry and why does he keep talking over the guy on the left?

I dislike all of them equally.

They are both acting like toddlers.

24 hour news networks ruined the credibility of news media--gotta to keep up ratings at all costs. who cares about the pursuit of truth anymore as long as we can get ad revenue...

Let's face it. People in this country are going to do what they want. Underage drinking. Pot. Speeding. Not wearing a mask or wearing a mask. Eating in a restaurant. Cheating on taxes. Cheating on spouses.

Why has it come to arguing over shopping and dining? There's far more to life than shopping and dining out.

Science is definitely the new religion of the sneering more-educated-than-thou class. It is infallible, inerrant, and those who disagree are heretics.

Most people do not have the experience or education to understand it deeply, and no one can possibly understand it all, so scientist are the new priestly caste. Just like in the day when the scriptures were in Latin and laymen had to turn to priests to interpret the writings, so are today's scientists venerated as all knowing.

You need not even be a real scientist. You can have a 40-year-old engineering degree, have worked at Boeing making training videos over a quarter century ago, spent a few years as a TV clown explaining dinosaurs and gravity to 8-year-olds, and dance around in a goofy bow tie and call yourself a Science Guy and the media will accord you expertise on subjects as far ranging as religion, poverty, and climatology.

As long as you're saying what they want you to say...

Really wish that we could have heard the explanation about big box stores being safe but restaurants cause concern about viewers' health and safety. That would have been interesting and cool to be let in on one of the great mysteries.

Kingfish said...

Santelli is usually working from the floor of the Merc and it's pretty noisy. I wonder if that might have something to do with it.

Anonymous said...

@3:43, too bad for you. Consider moving into Jackson.

Anonymous said...

The explanation: US health officials have made clear that indoor spaces, and restaurants in particular, are high-risk areas for spreading the virus. Restaurants are uniquely risky because eating and drinking requires diners to remove their masks and meals often take an hour or so of exposure time. Big-box stores are fundamentally different, as shoppers are often required to keep their masks on and are moving through large, well-ventilated spaces, often for shorter periods of time.

Now, in contrast, in confined spaces like Airplanes, they've found out that the very well ventilated cabin, with air cycling rapidly through HEPA filters, is pretty safe, but you are sitting close to some people. So, if one of them is spewing right near you and for hours, you've got some exposure. But, if those closest to you are not sick, you'd have to stay about 54 hours on the plane to get sick on average. So, airplane cabin safer, big box fairly safe, restaurants and bars not so safe.

Close the bars and indoor restaurants and keep the schools open, which I would have argued against months ago. I won't fly unnecessarily, but more about the security lines and terminals than the plane. Even barber shops where the barbers wore MASKS turned out to be less of an issue. But the bar and restaurant thing is NOT turning out so great, at least where folks are consuming (and some drinkers are overconsuming, perhaps).

The data is pretty clear now.

It's viral load and duration and proximity, as well as your vulnerability. It's not hard to figure out.

Santelli's an idiot. He's the one who urged folks to get "Deliberately Exposed" in March, "for the economy." Even he self described it later as the stupidest thing to ever say.

Debate is one thing. Shouting crap like Santelli is NOT "debate." And Sorkin's snotty attitude is not, either. Grow up, gents.

No news here, just entertainment... shitty entertainment at that.

@4:05 - I’m not a doctor or scientist, but my personal opinion is it would be safer because wearing a mask and moving around in a retail store would cause less exposure to a viral load that is concentrated in a particular location. Obviously it would be best to have a controlled study, but until that happens I’m proceeding with the more cautious approach.

This is not 'Science" it's pseudoscience put forth to control people. You should read a real scientific study from Denmark, google it the Masters of the Universe haven't outlawed it already, and see that masks make a statistically insignificant difference in infection rates. Of course, it will be disputed by the "fact checkers" who have no actual facts, just the falsehoods they want to put forth. The sad fact is, you Stupid F*^&% progressives will become the indentured servants to the State you deserve to be when Commie Harris is president, only, your stupidity will drag all the rest of us down with you like a drowning man.

It’s embarrassing Sorkin is allowed on TV. He is the most self righteous/ know it all / I’m better than you prick you could pick out of Manhattan. Just because he used to work the Deals beat at WSJ he thinks he’s God’s gift to finance. He’s a bitch and a hack. That said, Kernen is almost as pompous and Santelli is the smartest of the bunch when he can control his temper.

The above anti-science comments are just another reason our country stopped being great.

Canada COVID numbers: 403,000
United States COVID numbers: 217,000

The Canadian number is since March. The U.S. number is yesterday.

Mexico, (our sh*thole country to the south) only had 11,000 new cases yesterday.

Vietnam (population 95 million), after a relatively large spike in new cases, reported 22 new cases for all of last week. They've had no deaths in the month.

There's a very, very long list of countries that have successfully controlled spread of the virus. The information is freely available. I know many of you chalk this up to mind control rays and lizard people and you're too far down the rabbit hole to reason with, but for the rest of you: How do you think these countries have done it? Why aren't we doing it here?

Dec 4 at 5:02 explained it pretty clearly and wrote, "It's viral load and duration and proximity, as well as your vulnerability. It's not hard to figure out."

Anyone who uses their own life experience (or common sense if they have any) also knows about this basic concept from things like colds and "the flu."

Also, the preoccupation of some/many with the death rate or anecdotal cases with minimal apparent effects is misplaced. It is the cumulative effects on the population, including long-term health effects and medical resources being over-stressed. Someone who has had COVID-19 with minimal effects 4 months ago may be seriously injured in car accident next month or may have a parent, sibling, or child have a serious non-COVID-related situation, but with the medical staff and facilities at hospitals overburdened, the care will be affected.

It would be a point of reasonable debate if those who chose to "live their lives," not wear masks, not distance, etc. could do so without any ripple effects whatsoever, but it just doesn't work that way in the real world. The damnedest thing is that complete shutdowns would not be necessary if everyone did those few simple things. But because so many have refused to do so, there is high probability that things will get worse and even more severe restrictions will become necessary. Your refusal to do those things when asked could and likely will ultimately result in your being forced to do so, with criminal sanctions for refusing. If it progresses to where it appears it will, it wouldn't be surprising to see major retailers follow the lead of airlines and issuing long or lifetime bans via trespass warnings to those that refuse to follow laws and company rules. And a Walmart ban, even for a few months, would not be fun for many folks.

So 5:02, among other things, you wrote (my comments are in parenthesis): Now, in contrast, in confined spaces like Airplanes, they've found out that the very well ventilated cabin, with air cycling rapidly through HEPA filters (HEPA filters have been clearly shown to have little to no effect on this corona virus. It's simply too small for the filter to capture), is pretty safe, but you are sitting close to some people. So, if one of them is spewing right near you and for hours, you've got some exposure. But, if those closest to you are not sick, you'd have to stay about 54 hours on the plane to get sick on average (So, someone who is not sick can still make you sick, provided you're exposed to them for 54 hours?. How exactly does that work?) So, airplane cabin safer, big box fairly safe, restaurants and bars not so safe. (Nope)

December 5, 2020 at 3:00 PM wrote, "(my comments are in parenthesis)" and "(HEPA filters have been clearly shown to have little to no effect on this corona virus. It's simply too small for the filter to capture)"

Where do you people get this completely wrong information? That is not correct and is the exact opposite of what has been found. HEPA filters do in fact "catch" both "this" coronavirus (as well as others) and particles to which the virus might be attached.

A tabletop el cheapo consumer "air purifier" (even with a true HEPA filter) would not be sufficient to filter the air in an aircraft or large public space but an appropriately-sized system (look up "CADR") will reduce SARS-CoV-2 in the filtered air and reduce the potential for COVID-19 transmission in that space.

"How are those numbers working out for you, Rick?"

What a smug comment. Send that commentator home, please. Just because the numbers are high doesn't mean that Rick is wrong.

If this goes where appears to be going, look for similar in larger areas. Public health aside, wait until many jurisdictions start realizing the potential for feeding the coffers via the fines. I'm sure Mayor McChoppedsteak would just hate to take money from rich white folks for endangering public health by ignoring the mandate their own Guv put in place.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
