Not good........

Accomplished nothing. Leaves Ward 1 in worse shape, not better.

But give him credit for not faking a sudden illness as an excuse for bagging out.

Anonymous said...

He has been a voice of reason

Anonymous said...

Brad Reeves for city council!

Anonymous said...

Quentin gave a lot of time and effort toward such a tedious and often difficult post, for which I am grateful.

The deck was stacked. What does Sarcastic Lawyer think he *could* have done. He was a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest. Like a black man in the Mississippi legislature in 1980. Like a man on the streets of Jackson, at midnight, totin' a Daisy BB Gun.

unless mbs is leaving also brad is out. although id vote for most anyone over mbs

Anonymous said...

There goes Ward 1......Glad I am leaving.

Anonymous said...

It is a no win position. You can't really expect one person to move the council in the right direction. He was the only one that offered constructive criticism and kept the others from going down the wrong paths. I hope this is in preparation for something better for Jackson or a larger area. We need more people like him to stand up and say what really matters. I hope we at least get someone more effective than MBS. She barely has a pulse and can't ever off any worthy input at a council meeting. Whitwell….maybe a judge?

Hey, I can think of one or two people I would like to see replace him. Unlike "2:38" I am optimistic about Jackson's future and particularly Ward 1. Will miss Quinton, but there are plenty of good folks able to serve well on the City Council. Bet we get to meet a few soon!

Anonymous said...

We are glad you're leaving too 2:38! Nobody in the ward one seat is going to change the day to day lives of their constituents. They can be a voice of reason, but they are still 1 of 7. We are in better shape than we have been in a while especially with Tony in charge.

Quick aside- someone correct me if I'm wrong- I can count at least eight(8) 4000 sq ft+ houses being built(new construction) right now in Lefleur East with several more having been completed in the last year. So obviously some people know its still a desirable place to live.

Anonymous said...

Don't blame him for leaving. Now he can move out of that septic tank of a city and let them be the "City With Soul" The place is all hip hop/rap, gangsta, unwed mothers, burglaries, home invasions, carjackings and a dead body every other day. Let the expert leadership study that and you enjoy your safety!

Anonymous said...

At least Whitwell isn't an adulterer though that probably rules him out for US Senate.

Anonymous said...

Bradley Lum is my man in this race.

Anonymous said...

No such thing as LeFleur East. Made up bullshit.

Had high hopes for Yarber but he's starting to play the same non-transparent secret communications games that Harvey played only with different players.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if this is the post to make this comment on, but Jackson needs to change its government structure. The mayor--anyone who is elected--has too much unchecked power for a town this size. Jackson politics might continue to be a nonsense cycle until this happens.

The city council is basically there to give opinions in Jackson, not be apart of real change. A city of this size and responsibility (with this being the capital, etc.) should not be left to one person. We're all human. It's too much. There needs to be more check and balance and delegation of duties to people other than those appointed by the mayor.

Anonymous said...

Bradley Lum? Is residency a requirement?

Anonymous said...

Bradley lives in Flowood.

Anonymous said...

3:54 PM, LeFleur East is a voluntary foundation. That is all. Doesn't represent anyone in Ward 1 but themselves. It appears their mission is to pit neighbors against neighbors and embroil the City in lawsuits.

Anonymous said...

Foghorn Leghorn for Ward 1...really...

[And] to think that the Prophet and David Blount wanted to stick the taxpayers of Mississippi with a $14 million dollar tab for the lemon Landmark Building. ROFLMAO How's that downtown strategy working out for you now Ben?

Once again McDaniel did not win.

I see a moving truck in his driveway. Probably tired of Jackson. Can't blame him!

I have a vision:

Greg "slut-master" Brand, qualifies for Ward 1 seat. He hires Peter Perry as his campaign manager because he can't be the "driver" and Ruth Harris as his campaign spokesman. Mitzi Biggers will handle all the robocalls and "racebaiting ads". The Reverend Stevie Fielder will by default be "named" Field Director and the Rev. Crudup will be named GOTV Director. The campaign slogan will be "Don't sell your vote too cheap, we will pay top dollar". Brand's first press release will call for citizens to not forget his "over 40 years of vote buying experience". Endorsements will pour in, well, Lois Lerner will email her's.
Late in the campaign, Brand supporters will be found locked in the City Clerk's office and others will be arrested after breaking into the Jackson Zoo's Primate exhibit and claiming they were doing "background" checks on the opposition.
I am sure some of the King's erudite followers will see the possibilities here, especially the Amerigo's crowd, and take us to new heights.

THIS IS ALL HORSE SHIT!!! Obviously no one commenting knows the real reason. Think people!!! You don't just up and resign for, "OH MY FAMILY AND MY LAW PRACTICE!!!!" This guy has always been a failure at everything...a huckster, snake oil salesman!

9:13, that is not very nice. QW is a pretty good fellow a did a good job for the City.

8-4000 Sa Ft Houses said...

Nobody ever said it's impossible to build and live in a house in Jackson. It's just impossible if you have school aged children (and don't want to send them to private school), if you have a young wife who plans to jog or walk at night, have an aging parent on the property who would like to stroll around the yard alone, if you want safe nearby venues in which to shop, if you would like to leave a semi-new ride in the driveway at night or if you might consider leaving your ungated garage door up. If none of those apply to you, get your lumber order in.

Anonymous said...

1:46, disagree on all fronts...except the part about schools.

Anonymous said...

A little thing like residency has never stopped Bradley Lum before.

Anonymous said...

1:46 am You are a fool if you imagine you're "young wife" has any business running or walking at night anywhere! News flash...most serial killers, abductors and rapists are WHITE!

I'm an " aging parent" in a "4000+" house in Jackson. My children have left very fine " rides in our driveway overnight . I don't leave my garage door open, simply because I don't think it's visually attractive but I have a neighbor who never closes theirs and hasn't in 30 years without incident. I have no problem sitting on my patio at any hour and am not the least fearful in my yard at any time. I did send my children to private school. I sent them to private school in Madison when I lived there when they were in the first years of school. I wasn't impressed with the public schools in Madison and frankly, had misgivings about some of the peer influence there as well. In other words, I didn't want them in the homes of people like YOU!

Anonymous said...

I have a vision also.
McDaniel concedes and moves to NE Jackson. He runs for Whitwell's vacated position and wins. Imagine the entertainment value of a McDaniel-Stokes showdown.

Anonymous said...

7:04 is a damn fool. Just because you're specific house hasn't been broken into, and you specifically haven't been tied up and held at gun point, you are crazy if you believe the chances of it happening to you are not higher than the chances of it happening outside of Jackson. Sooner or later, something bad is going to end up happening very close to home for you. Many people have died from your 'it won't happen to me' mentality.

Ward 1 is Jackson Cash Cow to be MILKED said...

Just keep saying to yourself over and over again 'aging parent' that this stuff isn't happening.

Two Jackson men have been sentenced to 40 years in prison for series of crimes, that included armed home invasions in Northeast Jackson and country club areas of the city.

Jared Terry and Vincent Smith are responsible for a home invasion on St. Andrews Drive in August 2013. Terry and Smith held homeowners at gunpoint while they stole property, including a vehicle. The duo also pleaded guilty to burglaries on Crane Blvd., Ridgewood Rd., South Park Dr., and a business burglary.

Terry also pleaded guilty to a home burglary in the Eastover subdivision in which a homeowner, Gail Warren was shot in the arm, and a family pet, a German Sheppard dog, was shot and killed during the division.

Would you consider pinning a permanent post to the top of the blog entitled "I hate Jackson and here is why..." It seems to be everybody's favorite topic.

Thanks,

Try not to make it so obvious that you are provincial.

Jackson is a capitol city and I have lived in larger metropolitan areas that are also state capitols. I have travelled...even outside the U.S.

Crime happens everywhere. I know the victims of the crimes you cited and am glad you , at least, acknowledged that the criminals were caught and punished.

They have still not caught the criminals who broke into a Madison home a few years ago and who stole 10s of thousands of dollars worth of silver /jewelry etc.

I am not in a tornado alley. If I become ill, I can be at a hospital in under 15 minutes. If I'm sick at home, my medicine is delivered to my door and my dry cleaning is picked up at my door. I can get groceries and be home from any errand in less than 30 minutes. The airport is easily accessible as well as the train station ( are you afraid to take planes and trains as well?)

My neighbors (yes, some of them are from other ethnic groups) are all well educated, interesting, moral , successful and fun! I am not bored ever! I enjoy people who aren't my clones! I don't need the security of having my opinions and beliefs reinforced and so I can enjoy learning new things.

I'm not afraid as I know how to secure my home and to be vigilant when I'm out and about. Those of us who venture outside our bubbles learn that.

If you are afraid of crime in Jackson then you should never go to the large cities in this country and don't ever travel abroad!

And, if you are this afraid of people who are different from you, I'm very, very sorry for you. But, it does explain why you have such a limited view of the world around you!

I left Madison and moved to Jackson. The comments here just affirm my reasons. Thanks, haters.

Alibi: How many Eastover mansions are occupied by those who graduated from Madison or Rankin public schools? Hint: None. You just can't get there.

Anonymous said...

Most of you have no clue how really bad the City of Jackson is governed.May be the worst run city in this country.

Anonymous said...

3:00. Don't you have anything better to do with your time than obsess about Jackson? Good Lord dude, Get a life.

Anonymous said...

Quinton is a douche....but that's not relevant here. (Have you kept up with his hairdos? Holy shit)

He was alone...and stupid. Even he got tired of talking to himself.

He also wants to be more politically....which is akin to Stokes wanting to be spokesman for Jenny Craig..ain't gonna happen.

7:04 is a damn fool = moron! I'm sure his story is bull. For the most part Jack Town is a shit hole. And OMG that Farish St Project!!!! and the Capitol St Project??????? Only thing that will clear up any problems in Jackson. About 4 - 2000lbs JDAMS. Get rid of the homeless shelters, other cities just dumping there problems here.

I think the times of this resignation is strange. Especially we you consider the recent events of City Hall. Just last week, Investigative Agents supposed removed boxes of files regarding the $90M Seimens Contract. This supposedly occured a couple of days after the new City Engineer was chosen. Additonally, Jackson has had 2 recent elections- One for Mayor and one for City Council. Why wouln't he resign then, knowing the cost associated with having yet a 3rd election. I can't help but wonder what is in those removed boxes. This should be interesting, to say the least.

Yes, yes...we all know that the Old and New Capitol will be moved right after the Governor's Mansion and none of the hospitals are expanding really mean to stay and Millsaps and Belhaven College are about to fold and there's no new road work going on and out of state investors ( who surely aren't as smart as you are) are revitalizing Highland Village because they need a loss on their balance sheet.

All these investors with loads of money just are damn fools like I am.

ROFL

7:04: Newsflash! The problem in Jackson is not 'serial killers, rapists and abductors'.

The problem is gang bangers, thieves, car jackers, harrassers, cap poppers, head-knockers, robbers and murderers. Jackson has a plethora of each. Your post is bullshit and not only because you made it all up.

Nobody mentioned race until you brought it up. Simply put, we really don't know who most of these thugs are since Colendula Green is still asking for the public to help identify and catch them.

Is that you, Ben? Or one of your harpies?

Big nice houses in Eastover and near Wholefood in today paper for sale for slightly over $100 a sq ft. Sadly the bottom has not hit yet.Anyone that buy these for a deal will be selling them for $80 a sq ft in 2 years.

Anonymous said...

Just who will replace him???

Anonymous said...

Quick thought: Q ran against Gray Tollison in late 90s for state senate...and lost. Tollison might be the favorite to take Nunnalee's congressional seat due to his medical condition. In that case, Q would need to establish residency in O-town to take T's seat. Rumor has it that Q really wanted Walter Michel's seat but couldn't run due to the special election for his council seat...bad timing. Anyway, that might be Q's logic as city council was a stepping stone for his political ambition. If he gets T's senate seat, then that sets him up for running for northern MS's congressional seat down the road. Not many city council members get elected directly to congressional offices. Back room dealings at their finest.....

Anonymous said...

@ 6:03 - exactly. If you are building over there it's much greater than $100 sq/ft and you won't be able to sell for what paid. Good luck on your property taxes as well. I suppose if you are a charitable person it may make sense to you.

Fact is Ward 1 has been dying for a while and most notably in the last 10 years. As Fondren has "prospered", focus has shifted and the noose keeps getting tighter on the Eastover area.

I'm a Coast guy and I think Quentin is a really good guy. Yes you Jackson insiders probably think differently but he was good for the City. I hate that I am more nervous when I park my car and shop in NE Jackson than in New Orleans due to the hooded thugs lurking about. Jackson can do better. Quentin tried.

I live in Jackson but I will readily admit that Jackson is an armpit. While Jackson may be the armpit, Macison, Ridgeland, Flowood etc are the side of the rib age or the back of the upper arm. The stink and the sweat from the armpit are going to rub off on y'all. It kills me when people that live in Madison especially, start dogging jackson. Most of you probably work here and if you don't chances are your business relies on Jackson in some manner.
Oh and how much farther north are you people planning on running, anyway? Livingston?? Winona?? I think it was Kenneth Stokes that made the comment some 10 years ago that the white folk fleeing Jackson need to keep looking over their shoulder bc the black folks going to be right behind!! Look at Ridgeland. Getting pretty dark...

You don't mean it! There was a burglary in Madison two years ago that remains unsolved. Some silver was stolen?

Meanwhile, seven Indian owned 'convenience establishments' were robbed in Jacktown, three resulting in being shot and one resulting in death.

Crime here is just like anywhere else? That's bullshit and you know it. Maybe the FBI stats are wrong. Those guys just can't get shit right, can they?

With apologies to Ellen Degeneres, Whitwell realized all he could do was stick his finger in the dyke. The people of Jackson have spoken. Then now have the government they asked for and deserve.

Anonymous said...

Cute 6:21 I suppose you hang out in South Chicago when you visit there or do you ever go anywhere else?

DUH! Suburbs and affluent areas have less crime

What a news flash!

So you want to start including Canton in Madison County crime stats?

Name a capitol city ( many have had problems, including crime and where there wasn't white flight ,there was eroding of the residential tax base) and hasn't been able to overcome those problems. Hint: Detroit isn't the capitol of Michigan.

There are more than a few who fled Atlanta and wish like hell they had their Buckhead property back!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
