Will Chokwe have a dozen protesters outside with signs
Jackson residents should be very happy that the state government has an interest in Jackson. If crime can be contained and criminals punished, the sky is the limit for Jackson.
"Blessings" judges need not apply.
On an unrelated note is the old Naval Reserve Center building used for anything?
8:56, I believe that building is used for Archives & History storage, at least part of it.
While you're down there Rukia bring a certified check so you can swing by the Chancery Clerk's office and pay for your tax sale sold late 2023 property taxes.
State Employees of Dept. of Archives go there to have extramarital affairs.
I have friends still live in Jackson. Complain State doesn’t help enough but complains when they do help. I think they want a no strings attached blank check. I often read meetings, gatherings, town halls to discuss ways prevent youth crime. Now someone has stop talking and has taken action
I so wish those who actually live in Jackson especially those on the other side on I-55 had a say in this Capitol District nonsense. Some of us want trained and qualified people helping us. Instead, we are having to deal with those who want all of Jackson to look "faux".
@9:28 travel around the state outside of the metro, really outside of Jackson, and you'll find the rest of Mississippi could give a shit about Jackson. Your friends still living in Jackson need to face the fact that there is very little legislative interest (meaning votes) in bailing out Jackson.
It’s very hard to comment with this new system
Does it contain a lock-up?
To 10:00, it will be interesting to see the layout and how it is secured...tons of access points before - are they closing it in somehow?
*temporary location.
The court will be permanently located at the old Wright Ferguson building once work is complete.
THANK YOU MUCH, 9:37 - I live in Jackson, have for a few decades. And I do live on (as you reference) the OTHER side of I55. And I am very happy to see the CCID in operation, both with the millions of dollars that the state is spending on streets in Jackson (something the state doesn't do in other cities), the Capitol Police who are finally providing us with security and putting adequate numbers of LEOs on the streets following the failure of JPD to do so (again, something the state doesn't do in other cities), and providing us with a court system that will at least began to provide a legal framework that actually does something with criminal defendants other than turn them loose because the city doesn't have anywhere to lock them up (again, something the state doesn't need to do in any other cities.
Yes, my side of I55 likes this process - and if you asked around the Capitol you would find that many of the members that represent Jackson -- those on 'the other side of I55 - were quietly in favor of the expansion of the CCID, wanting the Capitol Police (and therefore the court) to cover "their neighborhood" but just wouldn't say it outloud, because, they too were suffering from the failure of the city of Jackson, and the court system of Hinds County, to provide any semblance of security.
It's a shame that it's only a municipal court. All of those legislators that cried racism kept the "real" court system from being established.
Mega Dittos to 12:20. I'm on record in favor of having Jackson placed in receivership. In the meantime, the CCID has led to some wonderful improvements in the quality of our lives in Belhaven. Of course, next to receivership the best thing that could happen would be the election of an honest and COMPETENT Mayor.
It's interesting that no one has ever complained about any of the municipal court's in Hinds County, including Jackson.
Glad its going to be here. Will help so much.
9:59 am - it helps if you hit refresh on the comment screen. F5 on my system. That helped me.
12:20 you should tell the Capitol members that quietly were in favor of the CCID to speak the eff up.
The reason Jackson is what it has become is at least in some part due to people being too quiet about doing the right thing for fear of being called racist.
It is not about race. It is about a city run into the ground by idiots because "please don't call me racist."
The only interest the state has in this area of Jackson is during the sessions of the state Supreme Court and during the house\senate meetings.
Ditto
