State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested Vernell Survillion, an owner of multiple rental properties, for allegedly submitting fraudulent applications to the Rental Assistance for Mississippians Program (RAMP), a rental assistance program managed by Mississippi Home Corporation (MHC).
Survillion submitted RAMP applications on behalf of tenants renting properties owned by him. The applications contained fraudulent information, including forged signatures, inflated monthly rental amounts, inflated months delinquent, and incorrect occupant information. These actions caused MHC to make payments to Survillion totaling $16,050.00.
“As long as the legislature leaves us with the ability to audit, we will continue holding the line to make sure your tax dollars are spent properly,” said State Auditor Shad White.
If convicted Survillion faces up to $10,000 in fines and up to 5 years in prison. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.

More little fish while the Phil Bryant/Brett Favre/Tate Reeves whale continues to be ignored and protected.
"Low hanging fruit" comment in 3, 2, 1...
I am so damn tired of seeing this same post over and over and over.
Good work.
Not exactly a complex difficult investigation.
Happy to see any and all criminals face punishment.
It's a good thing the auditor has people on staff to write these press releases!
That gives him more time to troll for the big fish!
9:03 is spot on, and 9:30 must be someone in Shad's office. Has anyone other than me and 9:03 noticed that for some reason Shad can arrest the little fish, but when questioned about the larger fish, Shad says he does not have the authority?
Shad thinks he's gubernatorial material.

Thank you, Shad. I personally think you're doing a good job and will vote for you.
@10:29: Big fish are not so easy, they tend to have political connections. Reference Chairman Polk and Mr. Favre. If you don't believe there is a dual justice system I have some investments you may be interested in.
Again, Shad ain't doing the arrestin'. His agency is turning the evidence over to the arresting agency. Shad doesn't even have a budget to buy bullets.
Is there wasn’t a dual justice system, Phil Bryant would have been indicted by now.
