State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that LaCosta Lee, a former contracted probation officer for Court Programs, Inc. (CPI), has pleaded guilty to six counts of embezzlement.
Lee received court-ordered fines and fees from those on probation and then proceeded to pocket the money for her own personal use.
“Our dedicated team at the State Auditor’s office continues to work closely with prosecutors to get record results,” said State Auditor Shad White. “That’s how we’ve recovered more money in the last six years than any other six-year period in the history of the Auditor’s office.”
Lee was prosecuted in the 12th District Circuit Court. Lee was sentenced to 20 years, 17 suspended, 3 to serve, 5 years post release supervision, and has been ordered to pay $4,313.75 in restitution, $3,000 in fines, and $400 to the victims’ compensation fund.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.

It's gonna cost Lacosta 3 years in the clink for $4,313.75. Damn.
Wonder what it will cost the taxpayer for his three year stay?
She is now qualified to be a Jackson mayor, DA, or alderman.
What happened to the people whose fines and fees she pocketed? Did they get finally credited or go back to jail?
Did her victims finally get credited or go back to prison?
Yet, Phil Bryant and Brett Farve walk free….
2:09 PM, there’s no way a mere commoner like LaCosta Lee could be “sentenced to 20 years, 17 suspended, 3 to serve, 5 years post release supervision” for embezzlement of such a small amount.
Rich man (billionaire???) Richard F. “Dickie” Scruggs ONLY served, what, a mere 5-years in prison after pleading guilty for attempting to bribe Circuit Court Judge Henry L. Lackey and attempting to improperly influence Mississippi judge Bobby DeLaughter (link below).
Bribing judges for favorable rulings did E X P O N E N T I A L L Y more damage to this country than some low life stealing $4,313.75 did. So, LaCosta must have stolen MUCH more, right???

Everyone who is responsible for TANF money being disbursed is in custody.
@7.24 am - Really? You think so? $77Million in TANF money went missing. Every amount mentioned in the press associated with an individual crime adds up to less than about $20Million. I'm not too good at math, but I figure that there's still over $50Million that hasn't been accounted for. That tells me that there are some big fish out there that haven't been caught yet.
7:24 When did they pick Phil up? I missed it.
She will do 9 months based on this being a non-violent offense. That is 3 months of each year that she was sentenced to serve. 25% law.
