State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White sent a letter to Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann with his recommendations on ways state government can put more K-12 education dollars into teachers’ salaries and the classroom.
“Mississippi spends a greater percentage of our K-12 budget on administrative costs than every other state in the South with the exception of Washington, DC,” White said. Even worse, K-12 administrative spending increased from 2006 to 2021 while the amount of inside-the-classroom spending went down and the number of students in K-12 schools decreased.”
Auditor White has proposed a bill that would require 50% of all new education funds to go towards teacher salaries, which would result in a $13,000 pay raise for teachers.
“As the son of a 35-year public school teacher and grandson of two public school teachers, I know the importance of getting more money into teachers’ salaries,” said White. “It’s just common sense: spending money in the classroom makes the biggest difference for students.”

How you tell me you want to run for Governor without telling me you want to run for Governor
What about the &2,000,000 Shad spent with Boston firm for his bogus report.
I didn’t realize Washington DC is a state and also didn’t realize it is considered part of the South.
Democrat Delbert Hosemann is stuck in the past. Don't look for out-of-the-box thinking from our Lt Governor. Time has passed him by. He's simply not up to it.
I did not know the state auditor’s job was to find ways to spend more money? I thought he was suppose to make sure it is being spent legally and wisely. IT IS TIME FOR HIM TO GO IF HE IS INCAPABLE OF IDENTIFYING THE GRAFT AND CORRUPTION GOING ON IN THE STATE’S PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS.
Agreed. Shad is a lightweight & has few friends in legislature & local governments. Too much self promotion.
I'm tired of the teachers salary arguments. They get paid time off, holidays, summers, health insurance and the Holy Grail, their PERS retirements. If you have a masters degree, or Phd, that really puts you in the money. Still not enough? Don't be a teacher.
I can see how Shad would need a new row to hoe after what his former 'government reform' bro Jody Owens got indicted with some of Jackson's finest...
