Shad Asks Delbert to Put More Money in the Classroom

State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.

Today State Auditor Shad White sent a letter to Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann with his recommendations on ways state government can put more K-12 education dollars into teachers’ salaries and the classroom.

“Mississippi spends a greater percentage of our K-12 budget on administrative costs than every other state in the South with the exception of Washington, DC,” White said. Even worse, K-12 administrative spending increased from 2006 to 2021 while the amount of inside-the-classroom spending went down and the number of students in K-12 schools decreased.”

Auditor White has proposed a bill that would require 50% of all new education funds to go towards teacher salaries, which would result in a $13,000 pay raise for teachers.

“As the son of a 35-year public school teacher and grandson of two public school teachers, I know the importance of getting more money into teachers’ salaries,” said White. “It’s just common sense: spending money in the classroom makes the biggest difference for students.”

How you tell me you want to run for Governor without telling me you want to run for Governor

What about the &2,000,000 Shad spent with Boston firm for his bogus report.

I didn’t realize Washington DC is a state and also didn’t realize it is considered part of the South.

Democrat Delbert Hosemann is stuck in the past. Don't look for out-of-the-box thinking from our Lt Governor. Time has passed him by. He's simply not up to it.

I did not know the state auditor’s job was to find ways to spend more money? I thought he was suppose to make sure it is being spent legally and wisely. IT IS TIME FOR HIM TO GO IF HE IS INCAPABLE OF IDENTIFYING THE GRAFT AND CORRUPTION GOING ON IN THE STATE’S PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS.

Agreed. Shad is a lightweight & has few friends in legislature & local governments. Too much self promotion.

I'm tired of the teachers salary arguments. They get paid time off, holidays, summers, health insurance and the Holy Grail, their PERS retirements. If you have a masters degree, or Phd, that really puts you in the money. Still not enough? Don't be a teacher.

I can see how Shad would need a new row to hoe after what his former 'government reform' bro Jody Owens got indicted with some of Jackson's finest...

Do people realize the United States spends more money on education per a pupil than any country in the world ??? Still we don’t have the best schools!

Teachers say they are under paid compare to other states. Guess what EVERYONE in Mississippi are underpaid compare to other states!

Thank you 1:59 - you beat me to posting the obvious. Shad is definitely lacking in his knowledge of geography and political subdivisions.

I thought once we had casinos and a lottery, the school would be flush with money and all our educations problems would be over??? /sarcasm

The founders selected Washington DC as the capital as part of a compromise, and at that time Virginia and Maryland were part of the South. My rude take is that decades upon decades of constantly creeping bureaucracy and the flies it draws has suctioned both of those states out of the South and are now considered northern states by us all.

Serious question time: A state cannot extricate itself from the federal Union. We know this because it was proved by Mr. Lincoln’s use of force.

But couldn’t a state be kicked out, ejected from that Shining City Upon a Hill that is our glorious Union? Couldn’t the Union say: “Mississippi, you’re dragging down our rankings among the Western industrialized nations with your low-paying jobs, your obese populace, your inferior schools, the amount of money you suction from the Treasury, and oh, so much more. Therefore, Mississippi, the other 49 states are agreed, you-all are no longer a united state of America. Good bye and good luck in your new country.”

Why not?

7:53 Not hardly. For the same reason the SEC does not kick out Ole Miss, MSU, and Vanderbilt.

2:17 pm Delbert Hoseman is a Republican and was long before he got into politics. He has always been regarded as personally and professionally "frugal but not a tightwad". I also know Shad and his family and it disappoints me that he is putting politics first to the point of maligning a man he knows is smart and honorable and conservative. Don't be a follower Shad, stand up straight and don't bend over to the KKK wing of the party!

Ask yourself why the state auditor would send a letter and alert the press to the subject matter of the letter when the subject of said letter has nothing to do with his current job?

Anonymous said...

7:53, because then it wouldn't be a "Union".

I agree! Money's need to fix state highways. Instead of two lanes

Just wait until Shad's college professor leaks the paper he wrote about how awful Mississippi is to him. (I hope you're reading this, ma'am. We are waiting)

4:36 - let me guess, you were in class with Shad when he wrote the referenced paper.

Shad does not bother to inform the public what costs make up administrative costs. He would like everyone to believe it is simply administrative salaries , which is not. Some of the costs are unrelated to salaries and may not be under the control of school districts. He knows this, but he chooses to mislead the public to fulfill his agenda.

First, we need to consolidate school districts into one per county. We don't need 144 school districts when we have 82 counties. Second, they are now getting additional Lottery money. What are they doing with that? Third, stop spending millions on a report from an outside vendor when the MS LBO could produce such a report.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
