Capitol Street Shootout

More barbarism spilled over into downtown Jackson as a shootout took place on Capitol Street shortly after 10 pm.

Witnesses said a white Honda Accord chased a Dodge Charger down Farish Street, shooting at the target as they turned onto Capitol Street.  One witness counted over thirty shell casings on Capitol Street by Farish Street.

The chase ended down by The Walthall as the fleeing vehicle crashed. The assailant (s) got away clean.

Witnesses said the fire department, EMT's, and even Hinds deputies arrived before JPD at the scene.

Remember that the number of people in NE Jackson is greater than the total number of voters in the last mayoral race. Sitting at home has consequences. As for the 13,000 that voted for the mayor this is exactly what they voted for. Feel radical enough yet?

Antar walks softly and carries no stick. And he had no desire to, preferring instead to have "conversations". Jackson has denigrated to the days of the Wild, Wild, West; and everybody needs to carry a gun.

@12:35am Just getting started....Chicago 2.0

Anonymous said...

At least Chicago’s down town area is fairly safe.

Kingfish said...

Meanwhile shots were fired at old Canton Road and Ridgewood shortly after midnight last night

Any statement yet from Downtown Mayor Mike Rejebian expressing concern for 'property values'?

Anonymous said...

If Kingfish reported every time “shots fired” in Jackson, we would not have enough time to read the posts.

And it's in the exact spot they are putting a thugglemans club.

Look up Chokewe's campaign donors. Hold those people accountable for enabling him to keep running. Anyone who has donated so much as a dollar, or posted something for his re-election, or you know they voted for him. These people need to be ostracized for what they have allowed to be done(or not done) to destroy this capital city. Get in their a$$ and tell them how you feel. Many are attorney's or large real estate holders who give a little for him to stay off their backs. Truth is, he doesn't give 2 cents about this town. Do we need to start posting names? Change wont happen until the people who give him money start pulling back and telling him how they are getting asked questions.

Attn 8:25 AM please post names. As long as these people can hide from their exposure, the longer this will continue.

I remember enjoying Sunday brunch at the Walthall. String ensemble, crepe station, etc. I have pictures of my kids with the Easter bunny at the Easter brunch and then them running around outside the DG plaza. My kids are only in their 20’s. It wasn’t an eon ago. I hope our leaders are proud of themselves. I find myself asking, what is their end game? No one can be this dumb, right? Is this their vision of “equity”? Are they affirmatively trying to trash it all? At some point society has to recognize that the policies of the last 50 years have created this beast and begin to repair the damage or it will just continue to creep on up the road, much like locusts.

Honest question: Instead of ranting on here, Nextdoor, FB, etc., why aren't the honest taxpaying citizens of Jackson organizing and having peaceful, well attended protests in front of city hall, weekly?

6:18 Jackson has LONG since passed Chicago. Last time I calculated it, Jackson was (per capita) nearly 5 TIMES more dangerous than Chicago! We just don't have the outright numbers that they do, so it doesn't give the impression that we're really that dangerous. However, if you consider - as a percentage of population - how likely you are to be be murdered in Jackson, it's an order of magnitude higher than Chicago!

The main thing the citizens of Jackson need to acknowledge is: it only gets worse from here. The people (culture) in charge don't see this rampant crime as a problem. They've accepted a disorderly society for so long that they simply see no need for the implementation of changes. This is what a radical city looks like, and they're in favor of it.

If the people who "run" this city believed there is a problem with crime, you'd hear a continuous outcry about it. Yet, do you?

The new breed of young thugs have no concern whatsoever for person, place, or thing. If the car had not crashed they would have gone a few more yards and shot up the governor's mansion. Why not?

There's a huge street party that takes place down there every Friday and Saturday night.

Lumumba loves this kind of thing - people shooting their way out of poverty.

Was at church at Southside Assembly getting ready for prayer meeting two cars speeding past the dollar general and the church shooting at each other. Almost killed our security guard who was picking garbage from the front lawn. JPD cruiser was coming up Raymond almost directly behind the street criminals. He turned left onto Belvedere and the youths sped down Raymond Road. The patrons at Sams seafood had to hit the deck because the gun fire entered the restuarant. Then one of our members called 911 and they hung up on him. Then one of the perps came back down Raymond road past the church with a flat tire JPD was nowhere to be seen. This happens on a regular basis. I am almost of the belief either the police are scared or they are on the take from criminals and ignore the violence.

"Antar walks softly and carries no stick. And he had no desire to, preferring instead to have "conversations". Just like Benny, Stokes and one of my favorite, David.

@7:26, Don't hate on Rejebian for being vigilant and caring.. This should concern everyone living in Jackson..I for one work on this block and commute here daily, this is not ordinary activity. Rejebian for Mayor!!!!!!

Anyone else see the potential marketing campaign for Honda??? Gang member uses an Accord to chase a Dodge Charger??? 4 cyclinder chases down a Hemi???!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can tell you at least one round went through an active office building.

Anonymous said...

These idiots weren’t just shooting handguns at each other because they shot out several windows in the Pinnacle building. This has got to be dealt with, or what few companies that remain downtown are going to leave.

I'm just waiting for the people who get irrationally angry at the "Jackson Bashers" to defend this one and say that "it happens in every city" and we should "come together to somehow save Jackson because the suburbs will fall next".

With the implication of course that AFTER we save Jackson we should immediately hand it right back over to the current leadership because...woke, and whatnot.

Anonymous said...

"Rejebian for Mayor!" Sorry, has one unfortunate glaring fault that will preclude his becoming Mayor.

8:25, How about placing the onus on the voters?

At the local level, there really is no excuse for not voting based on local issues, as the voters are in a position to be intimately familiar with them, and how those issues affect their lives.

Anonymous said...

@12:35

That’s great and all, but north east Jackson, with the exception of a very few streets, is ghetto as well. So your point is irrelevant.

10:43 Not all Dodge Chargers are Hemi's. In fact, most around Jackson are not the model's with the Hemi's. Most are the cheap POS Chrysler 6cyl versions. In terms of nimbleness and speed, not to mention reliability, I would take the Accord all day over the Chargers that run in this city.

The state and federal governments have the power to change the trajectory of the capital city. Drive-by shooting can be prosecuted as a federal crime and Tate has done little to increase funding for prosecutors and judges in Hinds County. Judges in Jackson are trying to prosecute crimes committed 6-7 years ago. Until some of the Republicans in state government become victims of crime they will do nothing to change the lack of funding. Another example is the increasing homeless population - many of whom should be at Whitfield receiving drug treatment or help for their mental illnesses. Instead the funding for mental health services have been decreased over the years. Money doesn’t cure all ills but it can sure help.

8:36, I'm not an antard fan, but one donar/fund raiser was Jeff Reynolds, who seems to be dropping bombs (as a hobby) in Jackson Municipal Court. I don't know if it is sincere--he has represented JPD officers en masse in the past and I suspect this has some connection with his antard allegience.

You guys arguing about the cars are the same that miss all their kids' important milestones because you were in a trailer at some deer camp at the time. Its ok--I was with their mom.

So Sad.

It would be interesting if northeast jackson actually made their voice count in the next mayoral race.

It takes the right candidate.

Since some of those bullets are in Brunni's windows maybe the Governor will care now.

Four windows in the Pinnacle Building were shot out.

And yes, there was a shooting at the fair last weekend but funny how that was kept hushed up.

I went downtown today to meet with my accountant. Couldn't ride the elevator because you need a key card to activate the elevator. Finally a gentleman used his to give me a ride up.
He told me the homeless would sneak a ride up and camp out wherever possible so they had to start the key card program. I grew up in Jackson and it's sad to see what's happened to this city.

Jeff Reynolds called Antar his good friend recently. Maybe it was on Nextdoor. Obviously you pay, you play in the Lumumba administration.

It's very simple, 9:14 -- too many people in other parts of the city are dazzled by Choke-a-chicken Junior's ability to dance around solving issues... and constantly berating those who pay the taxes as racists and uncaring.

As a soon to be former Northeast Jackson resident for all of my 60 years, I graduated from Callaway High School with a mixed race class who almost all turned out great. Now most of these friends, both black and white, no longer see Jackson as we did -- and therefore have moved out to another city or another state. I myself am heading to Ridgeland at the end of the month where I can live peacefully with those who have ambition, desire and respect for others.

When the CB craze was big back in the 70s the slang term for Jackson was "Jack-town", Now you are more likely to get jacked than then.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
