Story, over.

Now, on to football season!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were not many "death certificates" from back in May reviewed to be included in today's numbers ?

I'm not saying they are incorrect.

But it is somewhat odd.

How many people does Dobbs have on the payroll to review death certificates from months ago ?

Car wreck . . . Covid.
Heart attack . . . Covid.
Old age in a Nursing Home . . . Covid.

My point is, quit a few citizens that have been playing by the rules are now starting to question all of these Covid regulations.

It's not the regulations, but the perceived hypocrisy and inconsistent enforcement.

Awesome! You are all such good little boys and girls who wore their masks. Remember, covid won't get you at Wal-Mart, but it will get you in that open air stadium this weekend in Oxford.

Boris Johnson just imposed new measures to stanch the renewed geometric progression of C19 in Britain that has come with cooler temperatures there, and after significant outbreaks in France and Spain. He has had Covid, so he knows what he's talking about. Compare his determination to acknowledge the threat posed by Covid and deal with it compared to what we are seeing here. Johnson told the British people:

The “fight against Covid is by no means over”; We must “summon the discipline, the resolve and the spirit of togetherness that will carry us through”.

"Never in our history has our collective destiny and our collective health depended so completely on our individual behaviour. If we follow these simple rules together, we will get through this winter together."

"To those who say we don’t need this stuff, and we should leave people to take their own risks, I say these risks are not unknown."

“The tragic reality of having covid is that your mild cough can be someone else’s death knell.”

If only we had leadership like that.

Actually I was going to post that update until you started bugging the hell out of me about it. Now I will wait a day or two. Or three or four.

Deaths by date of death are ticking back up a little. Other states are starting to see pretty significant increases in cases. I doubt we'll be the one to avoid their fate. Washington Post has us at #15 for infection rate but still at #2 for mortality over the past week.

We are doing OK but still worse than average. Hopefully people will keep up their efforts to slow the spread. We'll see. Almost everyone is predicting a nationwide spike as cooler weather starts to roll in over the next few weeks and indirect infections from school openings hit the vulnerable populations.

Ah, everybody's dance partner, Death. Can't get away from it.

Does anyone know the Ct of the PCR testing that is being done in MS?

Calm Down said...

@ 5:29 PM

You are aware that Boris ordered a lock down on March 23, only to see cases hit their steepest curve? They eased lockdowns on June 23. Then after the slide back down, he ordered masks mandated for inside transport on June 15; added masks inside shops on July 24; and expanded masks for indoor settings on Aug 8th?

It's almost like masks don't work at all. Odd.

9:18: What I am aware of is that Boris is strongly articulating the dangers posed by Covid and urging active direct measures like masks and distancing while the orange stain is saying young people are unaffected by the virus, which is untrue (they become carriers to the rest of us), and encouraging maskless people to crowd together before him to shout, all in violation of all CDC guidance. I prefer Boris’s leadership to the lamentable leadership we have. Respect nature; it is stronger than you. Is that specific enough for you?

Calm Down said...

@12:21

I'm not faulting your lack of specificity. I was just asking if you were aware that your hero Boris isn't what many would call a champion of wuflu.

I'd also point out that we live in a country with a lot of selective outrage. While you will hear lots of media complain about Trump rallies being superspreader events, you will hear silence from the same crowd when large crowds gather and 'violate the all-knowing CDC guidance' to protest the evil of X or the funeral of a member of their tribe.

For the record, we do know that the young are in fact not at risk for wuflu complications. We do not have evidence that they are a serious vector of transmission.

Wuflu is real, and it will kill, especially the elderly. It is not to be taken lightly if you have preexisting conditions. But those not a risk should be able to live life and weigh their own risks.

We are all mortal and one day will be called to account. Be ready.

Calm Down, the PCR (antiboy and antigen) testing data is available on the MSDH COVID website, near the bottom. I've got all the historical data, but there are gaps in it since MSDH doesn't update those figures every day.

@9:37 AM

I find a hint at MSDH - https://www.msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/14,0,420.html

PCR testing detects current, active COVID-19 infection in an individual.

Antibody (serology) testing identifies individuals with past COVID-19 infection based on antibodies they develop one to three weeks after infection.

Antigen testing is another way to identify current COVID-19 infection.

Total tests PCR Antibody Antigen
MSDH Public Health Laboratory 108,679 107,439 1,240 0
Other testing providers 690,923 602,601 36,460 51,862
Total tests for COVID-19 statewide 799,602 710,040 37,700 51,862

but nothing on the number of cycles that MS is using to detect virus in the samples. Would it be 30, 35, 40? Any idea?

Thanks

7:37: With respect, we are all at risk from C19 without exception, and anyone can pass it on. None of us are exempt. Individual rights have to give way to public health and safety while we get through this to the other side.

Calm Down said...

10:22
I appreciate the respectful comment, and in the same manner, could you explain what you would consider to be 'safely on the other side'?

Would that be after a vaccine? Does the vaccine have to provide a particular level of effectiveness? 60%? 70%? Do a certain % of the population have to have the vaccine administered? Would any of this relate to a target level of infections detected? Exactly what test is to be used, and at what level of sensitivity? Does the death rate come into play?

Who decides these questions? A scientist? Any scientist or just the one that's on TV the most?

If you are correct that 'all' are at risk and 'anyone' can pass it on, shouldn't we just stop testing altogether?

Jacksun said...

11:24: Thank you. I believe the safe other side is wide scale deployment of a vaccine approved by the FDA/CDC that, while not a guarantee, would give us confidence we can drop our masks, plus a program for periodic annual re-vaccinations if that’s what it takes. What concerns me are the cowboys who think wishful thinking and neglect are answers to a virus that knows only one thing relentlessly: one infected host in proximity to an I infected host.

Calm Down said...

@11:24

What does wide scale deployment mean? That the vaccine is sitting on shelves, or that people are taking the vaccine? If so, what percentage of people taking the vaccine would qualify for your determination of 'ok to drop your masks'?

Does your calculation for % vaccinated now include the seasonal flu, since 40-80K people die from it each year?

Jacksun said...

9:24: I happened to be over at the Legislature doing a little advocating on a bill the day the anti-vaxxers showed up with their presumably unvaccinated children, and with lots of shouting that could be heard in the chambers. It was very clear to me most legislators were disgusted and didn't appreciate the exposure to the unvaccinated. I think the anti-vaxxers are a small minority of nuts. Most people will comply for their own good. I feel confident most Americans understand the need to take a Covid vaccine approved by the FDA, and are eager to get the protection for themselves and their families.

Calm Down said...

@12:47

You may be correct. I will be interested to see what the rate of acceptance is, and how the vaccine is encouraged/coerced/mandated.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
