Mississippi young people are typically saddled with tens of thousands of dollars in debt upon college graduation. This may mean they are forced to delay major life milestones, like starting their family or buying their first home. But if families start saving early, the impact of student loan debt can be minimized.
One tool families can use to save is a Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition (MPACT) plan. This program allows families to lock in tuition rates and prepay their child's tuition fees, but families can only enroll during a few months a year. The 2020-21 MPACT Enrollment Period will run from September 1, 2020, to May 31, 2021. I invite you to learn more about this important program at Treasury.MS.gov/MPACT.
