Editorial: Stanley Alexander for Hinds County District Attorney

Crime, crime, crime.  The word has dominated the world of Jackson, Mississippi for over twenty years.  It helped fuel the growth of Madison, Ridgeland, Clinton, Byram, and everything east of the Pearl River. Summits have been held. Speeches have been made.  Commissions were formed.  However,  one thing has not been done and that is to hold our leaders accountable for their record on fighting crime.  Hinds County voters have a chance today to hold District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith accountable and send a message that they have had enough of the foolishness that goes on in the Hinds Courthouse.

Jackson Jambalaya endorses Stanley Alexander for District Attorney.  There is no way to sugar-coat it: the Hinds County criminal justice system is a catch and release program.*  Too many good people have been robbed, raped, beaten, and murdered by thugs who should have been in jail.  No police chief in Hinds County has any faith in the current District Attorney. Period.  They pray that every arrest has a Madison or Rankin County connection so Michael Guest can do Smith's job for him.   The District Attorney too often does not call police to testify before grand juries or help them fix cases so they can get an indictment.  Want to make sure prosecutors and police don't work together? Return the District Attorney to office today.

While the D.A. ignores the police, he stands up to a Mayor and tells him to his face that he should not worry about four criminals pillaging his neighborhood and refuses to call them criminals.  He hires a notorious drug dealer to run his campaign while criminal defense lawyers make up 7 of his top 10 campaign donors.  A former ACLU director leads a mysterious PAC that reports no donations but drops over $25,000 in last minute ads on urban radio and a mailer.  The Mississippi Supreme Court blamed the backlog of criminal cases in the Hinds County courts on the District Attorney.  The D.A. says that once a case is indicted, it is not considered to be part of the backlog, regardless of whether it takes three more years to get that case to trial.

The District Attorney is the number-one crime fighter in Hinds County and Jackson.  The Sheriff and JPD can pick up the criminals but it is the District Attorney who must put them away and keep them off the streets.  It is the opinion of this website that the District Attorney has failed Jackson and the rest of Hinds County.  Leaders lead and failures blame.  The current District Attorney has become real good at blaming others.  Voters in Hinds County can either sit at home while whining on Facebook or get off their duffs and go to the polls today.  Make a stand for accountability and vote for Stanley Alexander for Hinds County District Attorney.

*Want proof? Take a look at this list of posts:

Mississippi Supreme Court blames criminal backlog on Hinds D.A.
D.A. hires "Too Sweet".
Tommy Young back on the streets and ready to rob again after D.A. agrees to bond.
Jarvis Durr rapes and robs. Continued 8 times. Then carjacks and kidnaps three years later.
Melvin Potts continued 8 times, then kills JSU professor.
D.A. drops habitual offender status from 10-time felon.  He robs again.
Eddie Devine robs in 2013. Kidnap and rapes in 2014. D.A. does not move to revoke bond.
Darion Givens plea bargains to reduced charge in April. Arrested for murder in July.
D.A. drops habitual status for 9-time felon. He robs again.
Victims are not notified of trial changes and show up for nothing.  This one was beaten to a pulp at Keifers. Literally.
D.A. runs out of money and shows he has no clue about budgeting.
D.A. tries to throw Chief Deputies in jail.  This one was really dumb.
D.A. drops prosecution of drug dealer... after indictment.
Chirag no-billed despite being caught with stolen merchandise and guns.  D.A. never calls police to testify before grand jury.

Then here is my favorite.  The. D.A. takes on Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher and repeatedly blasts the Mayor for getting upset about four criminals.

I can't wait until lunch so I can cross over and vote for Smith. Alexander's thin record speaks for itself.

^^^ I am predicting one crossover vote for Smith. One. Who would actually crossover to encourage more crime? 9:53 you are hysterical.

Make that two crossover votes for Smith. I'm doing the same as are many others I know...

At least Smith's commercials prove he still exists. Wasn't sure about that.

Robert Schuller Smith did not bother to show up at the very important Farish Street Baptist Church Forum for candidates on Sunday night. The place was packed and most Candidates for office in Hinds County were there. I took this to mean that he knew he was going to lose. Maybe it meant that the PAC money might bring out the voters that hold this county down.

Good Editorial JJ.

9:53 & 10:44 the only Republican crossover votes for Robert Shuler Smith in Hinds County!

I am sure that Republicans will be breaking into the polling stations to vote for a man that was in a political commercial with Kenneth I. Stokes. Y'all remember that one last year? When Smith & Stokes endorsed Chokwe Jr.

That is very Republican.

I don't like Smith's nonchalant attitude toward the office he holds, nor do I like the way rape cases are handled by his office. However, the whole idea of Stanley Alexander being in power scares me. So either way I'm screwed.

You have got to be kidding. Robert Smith has done absolutely nothing during his tenure in office. It is amazing that this thing is even close. This is precisely why Hinds County is "going to the dogs."

You do not have to like Stanley Alexander, but give me a break eh is obviously the more qualified candidate. Ever decent prosecutor that Robert has ever had has either left or Robert fired them. He had has lost over twelve prosecutors in eight years.

He has had prosecutors in his office for more his complete tenure that have not tried five cases. When the Mississippi Supreme Court states that the Hind County District Attorney's Office is the problem you have got to give credence to the fact that Smith is incompetent.

Why would you keep Smith?

Why is it that no one responded to my last "rant". Smith has no competent prosecutors in his office and yet people "fear" Alexander. What they should be in "fear" of is their lives, "fear" that their love ones are in jeaporady daily, "fear" that their property value is going to decrease beyond fair market value.

This is precisely the rhetoric that keeps incompetent people like Smith in office. You do not have to like someone to admit they are the best person for the job.

What a joke that Smith got re-elected. Jackson - you reap what you sow.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
