State Auditor Stacey Pickering issued the following statement:
State Auditor Stacey Pickering Returns Funds to Warren County
JACKSON
– The State Auditor’s Office has returned a check for $279,112.82 to
the taxpayers of Warren County today. These funds were recovered as
part of the investigation of former Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly
Ashley-Palmertree.
An
Agreed Judgement was entered against Palmertree for $818,251.75 in her
civil case. The remaining issue to be resolved was the liability of her
bond company for $300,000. It is against this bond that OSA is
returning funds.
“Returning
these embezzled funds marks another step in making the taxpayers of
Warren County whole again,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “Our
office will continue to pursue any funds available, including an
additional $100,000 bond that we’ve already identified.”
In
March of this year, Palmertree plead guilty to embezzlement and was
sentenced to ten years in the custody of MDOC with five years to serve
and five suspended, to run concurrently. She was ordered to pay $20,000
at sentencing, turn over the $19, 542.99 in her criminal account, and
pay the balance of $67,164.64 in monthly installments of $1,250.00
beginning May 10, 2015.

What a strange coincident that this announcement is coming a week before the next election. By the way, the insurer was unquestionably liable for $300M. Where does the other $20,000.00 go. Does this department not have people on the public payroll who can file a (probably undisputed)claim?
Wow huge win for Pickering. Talk about the lowest of the low-hanging fruit.
Stranger than strange is time served and time suspended to run concurrently. Would not usually the convict have the suspended time held over her head during a period of probation following parole, which, if violated, would be time to serve? So, she steals millions (arguably) from the public and will be out before she can count to five.
4:12 ?????? a week before the next election? Pickering does not have an election until November, and at that time to a real noname - as opposed to his election two weeks ago to a nobrainname. If your theory was correct, this would have been announced three weeks ago. Since you have trouble comprehending, contact Herr Gilbert and I'm sure he will send you an election calendar, colored in for your understanding level.
4:32 - How's it hangin' Austin? Didn't you mean to type 1:42................nobrain!
@4:01 - If you search her name on the MDOC website, it says her tentative release date is 4 years (and 1 month-ish) from her sentencing date. Maybe she got time served. She's also in a low-level satellite facility in Rankin County it seems. Not really hard time at all when you get to watch the fireworks from the Braves game every Friday night.
