Jackson's legendary City Councilman, Kenneth I. Stokes was in his usual form this morning on his weekly radio show. He took issue with Mayor Lumumba running Ali Shamsid-Dunce off the Jackson municipal court bench, thanked MBN for busting drug dealers in his neighborhood, drugs, and of course, the garbage contract.  Enjoy!

 Welcome back to another edition of Sunday Morning Sermon.  The late Dr. Frank Pollard preached on how to make a difference in this 1993 sermon.  Enjoy the remedial preaching if you didn't make it to church today.

 The Mississippi Constitution gives the people of this state “the inherent, sole, and exclusive right … to alter and abolish their constitution and form of government whenever they deem it necessary to their safety and happiness.”

 Bill Maher defended patron saints of comedy such as George Carlin and Christophe Rock as he discussed "The Slap" last night.  He said something about kids once going to college to lose their virginity but now go to lose their sense of humor.  Watch the rest below as he skewered the woke.  Where is a short, fat, bald Jew from New York when we need him?

 Time will tell. Eerily, the Bible says, “the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.” Perhaps now is not the time for President Biden to ask Russia to oversee Iran’s development of nuclear grade uranium. Environmentalists’ dire warnings of extremely cold winters or extremely blistering summers pale in comparison with the very real possibilities of rogue nations carrying out pledges to wipe such-and-such nation(s) off the map with a nuclear blast.

So texted Governor Phil Bryant in describing Anna Wolfe back in 2019 as she investigated DHS's welfare programs.  Ms. Wolfe might just have the last laugh as she took no prisoners in scooping the media this week on the DHS scandal as the intrepid reporter managed to get her mitts on thousands of text messages between Governor Phil Bryant, Brett Favre, Former DHS Director John Davis, and some other peeps that were quite revealing.  Big paydays, anyone? Ms. Wolfe penned a soliloquy on her Facebook page that told the story of her dealings with DHS and how the Governor reacted to her investigation: 

Former Iraq War Vet Chris Cappy analyzes the latest developments in the Russo-Urkaine War. Russia failed to take Kiev and is in retreat on that front.  However, Mr. Cappy takes a look at the eastern front as well and boils it down to three words: natural gas and water.  While Russia took a beating on the western front, it is slowly but methodically achieving its objectives on the eastern front.  However, the outcome still hangs in the balance and the Ukrainians are scoring some successes.  Check out his video below as well as yesterday's update from the Institute of the Study of War.

The spotlight has shined on Brett Favre in Mississippi since he was 18 years old and will continue to do so - but not for his gridiron heroics.  The Southern Miss legend allegedly played quarterback as millions of dollars in welfare funds were directed to Favre's favored projections.  Anna Wolfe reported yesterday:

Rankin-Madison District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement. 

Statewide elected officials are going to get a nice little pay raise after the legislature passed HB #1426 this week.  Read and weep.

 This little incident occurred during the emergency meeting of the Jackson City Council Friday.  The Mayor passed out copies of his veto to the City Council.  Ward 6 Councilman Aaron Banks was being rather belligerent during the meeting and continued to be belligerent as the Mayor distributed his veto as shown in the video below. 

 Byram has had enough and is moving towards creating its own water system. WAPT reported: 

 Don't ever complain about sitting through a kid's recital after watching this.  This video is not, repeat, not a joke. 

 Former Governor Phil Bryant actually sat down with reporter Anna Wolfe for a three-hour interview about the DHS scandal, Brett Favre, Prevacus, what the Governor knew, and when he knew it.  Kudos to Ms. Wolfe for bagging the elephant.  There are some nuggets in the quiz.  Some excerpts:

Apparently a Jackson City Councilman finds a little bit of humor in people complaining about their garbage service.

 The Madison Police Department issued the following statement. 

 Since 1992 and at earlier points in the state’s history, Mississippi voters have been able to bypass the Legislature and engage in what has been called “direct democracy” in proposing constitutional amendments and getting them decided at the ballot box rather than at the state Capitol Building.

Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler issued the following statement. 

Last week, reporter Christopher Rufo released footage of top Disney employees vowing to inject their radical LGBTQ agenda into children's programming. Disney producer Latoya Raveneau told an all-hands meeting that her team works to push a "not-at-all-secret gay agenda" in programming aimed at kids and sought to add "queerness" to such content. Disney corporate president Karey Burke announced that she was the mother of "one transgender child and one pansexual child" and that she would try to achieve a quota system whereby half of all Disney characters would be LGBTQ or people of color. Disney diversity and inclusion manager Vivian Ware stated that Disney's beloved theme parks would be eliminating any mention of "ladies and gentlemen" or "boys and girls."

 The Attorney General's office arrested Rankin County Tax Assessor John Sullivan for rape today.  

 A Madison County grand jury indicted former DHS Communications Director Danny Blanton in February for his fourth DUI offense.

To say Barksdale Today reporter Anna Wolfe rocked the Mississippi political world yesterday is an understatement.  Ms. Wolfe obtained a slew of text messages between former Governor Phil Bryant and others that were quite revealing.  Simply put, the Governor and Brett Favre saw a chance to cash out on an up and coming company that coincidentally is at the center of the DHS scandal, Prevacus.  Prevacus hoped for government funding.   DHS happened to have government funding.  Two sides of the equation, both wanting cash, is a recipe for business success or unfortunately, corruption.  Ms. Wolfe reported: 

 Well, well, well, check out this little bit of language in HB #1663, otherwise known as the "bond bill": 

 Belhaven residents go to the polls tomorrow to decide whether to tax themselves some more in the most highly taxed city in Mississippi.  Indeed, Belhaven will become the highest-taxed neighborhood in Mississippi if the 6-mill property tax increase is approved.  Before voting, consider a few items.

Belhaven voters go to the polls Tuesday to vote for a tax increase.  Before voting, they might want to watch this February 2, 2021 video from the Jackson City Council as the Mayor said the new Belhaven taxes would allow the city to redirect funding away from Belhaven.  Something about no good deed going unpunished.

or the Case of the Disappearing Footnote

Now you see it, now you don't.  Special Chancellor Jess Dickinson was supposed to settle the trash tug of war between the City Council and Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba but a little harmless footnote in his Thursday opinion wasn't quite so harmless as it wrecked havoc in Jackson yesterday.  Seeing the damage done by his thinking out loud, the not-so-Iron Chancellor vacated his order last night and erased the footnote in a new order.

Update (11:20 AM): City Council twice rejects emergency contract on a 4-3 vote.  However, Mayor Lumumba VETOED the rejection of the contract.  Remember that Dickinson footnote? It just came into play.  

Richard's Disposal trucks are rolling throughout the city this morning.  Meanwhile, Jackson City Council President Virgi Lindsay called an emergency meeting of the City Council for 11 this morning.  The topic? Approving an emergency one-year contract for Richard's Disposal.  It is streamed below. 

 Once upon a time, a hospital decided to open in Northeast Jackson without jumping through all the hoops even though the powers at be tried to help it along.  The result? The hospital never dreamed it would be forced to close after spending millions of dollars and seeing over 20,000 patients but closed it was. Sound familiar?  Read on.
