Favre's Favorites

The spotlight has shined on Brett Favre in Mississippi since he was 18 years old and will continue to do so - but not for his gridiron heroics.  The Southern Miss legend allegedly played quarterback as millions of dollars in welfare funds were directed to Favre's favored projections.  Anna Wolfe reported yesterday:

Favre said a nonprofit director Nancy New gave him $5 million in grant funds to build a volleyball stadium at University of Southern Mississippi – a payment that could be part of forthcoming civil litigation. A pharmaceutical company Favre backed, called Prevacus, also ended up receiving $2.15 million in allegedly stolen funds from the Mississippi Department of Human Services. The quarterback collected an additional $1.1 million welfare dollars personally....

With the drug company investment, the volleyball arena and other payouts, at least $8 million in misspending auditors identified within Mississippi’s larger welfare scandal stemmed from Favre’s requests or fees. New’s nonprofit, called Mississippi Community Education Center and primarily funded by MDHS, directly paid Favre more than $1 million to be a spokesman for the Families First for Mississippi program. He’s since returned those funds, but the auditor says Favre still owes $228,000 in interest on the money he improperly received. Current MDHS Director Bob Anderson said last October that the department would be filing civil charges against Favre along with many others, but is awaiting approval from the attorney general.....

While Favre has said he didn’t know the funding he received was from a program that is supposed to help the poor, text messages obtained by Mississippi Today show he knew he was dealing in government grants. Favre has not been accused of a crime within the scheme and declined to interview with Mississippi Today....

Around the same time, Favre was getting nervous about holding the bag for more than $1 million that the Southern Miss Athletic Foundation needed to build the new volleyball facility Favre promoted.

“Hey brother Deanna and still owe 1.1 million on Vball,” Favre texted Davis, referring to his wife, Deanna Favre. “Any chance you and Nancy can help with that? They don’t need it at the moment.”... Rest of article.

The biggest welfare queen in the history of the United States. He should go to prison.

So Shad gets all tough on old ladies stealing 5k from local governments but he’s going to turn into Casper and become invisible regarding THIS????

I guess it was at least a year ago that I submitted two, maybe three, posts on this blog regarding my theory that governor Bryant and his wife were complicit in the fraudulent scheme and were totally wrapped around the net with this volley-ball thing. All those posts were shit-canned by Kingfish.

At that time, all I knew for sure was that welfare funds were channeled to USM for the volleyball stadium for girls. But, I also knew Favre is the school's most prominent historical figure. I also knew both of the Bryant's are USM alumni. I also knew the Bryant's were making regular gratuitous appearances with Nancy New. It was just all too damned apparent.

A year later, here we are.

How in the fuck can Brett ask for Monies from the Department of Human Services? DHS is not a freaking bank! DHS gets monies from the federal government to help needy Mississippians!

The ex Governor is either stupid or think Mississippians are stupid!

You know what, just let every single person out of prison that committed fraud in Mississippi!

No wonder we are at the bottom. We are idiots!

For just one minute forget who the players are. And look at the texts!

I’m through with this shit, I’m going to the liquor store and the weed man.

I’m just kidding LOL and SMH

Well that does it, I am sending back all my Copper Fit gear, yes, even the nose hair clipper. Thanks for nothing, Brett.

I coming to Jackson tomorrow to try and get a minute with the Director of DHS. We need more basketball courts in Collins Ms for underprivileged kids and we will also take a volleyball court if any are left in the DHS budget!

My Grandmother would like to get a cube of that cheese y’all used to give the Po people!

Thanking you in advance,

P.S. I don’t have a new truck to give you!

Anonymous said...

Just one Question: if we are talking federal dollars… then where are the FUCKing Feds???!!!

Anonymous said...

Favre didn't do anything except take monies that were given to him. You would've done the same.

Anonymous said...

7:11...not sure Brett directly asked for DHS funds. He asked Nancy and Phil Bryant for funding for a volleyball court and a tech company. Same as any dad and tech founder would do. It was Nancy and Phil who directed specifically the DHS funds his way.

Every tech entrepreneur in the country is looking for seed funds and there are 500 government agencies steering money to tech. Look at Innovate Mississippi. None of the crap they back is as appealing as preventing concussions. Brett is the story because he is a retired NFL star. But the crookedness is all Nancy and Phil trying to be on Brett's team.

Anonymous said...

I'll repeat, who is held to a higher standard.....a retired jock with brain damage trying to start a company that can prevent concussions, or a sitting governor with access to unlimited legal resources? The story is not Favre, it's Bryant, Bryant, Songy and New.

Anonymous said...

If the former governor gets indicted, Anna Wolfe is going to win a Pulitzer

Anonymous said...

Why does KF title this "Favre's Favorites"? Because it grabs clicks. Favre did nothing but pursue funding for a start up. The title should be "Bryant's Crooked Assedness" to get ten minutes of fame.

Favre had nothing to do with the other 100 counts of fraud. Dibiase? DHS ads at Vaught Hemingway? On and on, the only common denominator is Bryant, Bryant and Songy.

Looks like Fave did NOTHING illegal. This is just another example of a drive-by hit piece by Anna The Hack. Read anything she writes and most all of it is one-off examples and morality plays.

From all the text messages I read there is nothing Favre did wrong.

I’m not mad at Brett or Nancy for the volleyball deal. This is on Phil and John Davis.

John provided the money for the lease agreement/volleyball stadium apparently per Phil’s instruction. He/DHS gave all the money to MCEC and instructed MCEC to pay the lease up front, in-full. That lease agreement was vetted by DHS attorneys, AG attorneys and IHL. They all signed off on it. How/why, I have no clue. But, I don’t put this on Brett or Nancy.

Now, Brett coming back to John later on and asking him to help with his personal $1m note is another story. That’s a really bad look for Brett.

Not much else to say about Phil. I only hope get gets his. You can’t hold these other people to account and not hold him accountable too.

I think all this new evidence and reporting calls into question Shad White’s investigation into the News and others. He’s clearly sat on evidence in an apparent effort to cover Phil Bryant. What else has he hidden or lied about? He’s created a story that doesn’t quite add up and has allowed the media to run with it for over 2 years.

Anonymous said...

Who in the hell Brett thought John Davis worked for, Wells Fargo? Are y’all saying Brett is stupid and not knowledgeable! Brett has his handlers and people that advise him.

Come on man, Y’all can spin it anyway you want! Just blame all this shit on John Davis.

Yes, John was the bag man! We need to find a way to make this shit go away!

Then everyone can go on with their lives. In the meantime, we need to let all the fraudsters out of MDOC. Let’s be fair now!

Anna’s stuff would be so much easier to read without all the ax grinding over anything remotely conservative, traditional, and/or moral (as understood for the past two millennia). She’s done some great work here, but she’d win more followers if she’d park the damn left-wing ideology. And to be clear, I hope Bryant and his whole crew go down over this.

Anonymous said...

Thought we had something special in auditor white. Very disappointing! What y’all have been saying about auditor white going after the little fish and having a flashy news conference is about correct! I remember him going after some county supervisors for approving the payment to a circuit clerk without the judge signing off. And he had a big news conference about it! Well auditor white we are all waiting for you to take the stage on this.

Brett Favre did nothing illegal! Great job with the click-bait headline you closeted ass-monger. This is all Phil Billy, Mrs Phil Billy and little miss ”orange is the new black” Nancy New. GD you for spreading this crap you freakin idiot!!!!

Damn, looks like the consensus is that mean little reporter is beating up on the old brain damaged jock guy. Wow. Who saw all this coming down on the former Governor? He always played aw shucks so well.

Anonymous said...

The question that never gets asked, but the timing seems appropriate, what happened to the $3 million left in Bryant’s campaign fund? Is it still there or did he pull it out and report it as income as the law requires? 99% of the time this quietly fades away. I bet a donut he has not filed a campaign report since he left the mansion.

I would like to know how Anna Wolfe obtained the text messages. That is some impressive reporting.

The most astounding revelation in Wolfe's series of articles is the allegation that Davis exercised at a gym.

Lets just call Phil a Sugar Daddy said...

Brett Favre had career earnings of $141 million*, if people can't realize that entitles him to get some of Mississippi's Uncle Sugar Federal welfare money then how can they be helped?

KF loves to bring down Mississippi. Don’t matter if it politicians or sports heroes. No one is perfect but Mr Fish will always find a way to shine a spotlight on our state’s molehills and then try to claim there is a mountain range running parallel to I55. Why can’t you just stop being you for a while and quit subjecting us to your third-rate hillbilly quasi “journalism”.

Anonymous said...

@10:25 pm Dat you, Phil?

Anonymous said...

10:35, so its KF's fault for providing you and others a story developed by Anna Wolfe that is bringing down Mississippi? Surely you jest,or are nothing but a troll.

No, in this case its our former Governor, his staff, and appears from today's reporting, his much loved wife that was working to bring down Mississippi. His ridiculous claims that he "didn't know" that the drug company was getting state/federal dollars, his "don't read my text's" claim doesn't pass the shit smell text, and his adoring love affair with Nancy New created, fostered, and grew this fraud into this embarrassment. And it was it was his former campaign manager - his recently appointed State Auditor - that tried to provide cover to his and the rest of his crew's involvement.

John Davis was a pawn. Evidently an adoring, loving pawn who did anything and everything he could do to maintain favor with the guy who promoted him to the top of the state agency where he had worked his entire life and now had the purse strings to a massive amount of federal dollars designed to help the poorest of our state. Who came up with the idea to raid these funds for Families First - New, Davis, Bryant(s), Songey - may never be known. But once it was learned how easy and lucrative this could be they all stuck their fingers in the pie and pulled out the plums. And once the real whistleblower, a DHS staffer (or possibly a recently released staffer (?), tattled who stepped in to cover his guardian angel's arse. None other than Shad White who's investigators turned over the proverbial apple cart.

Massive fraud of millions of dollars of federal money. So what does Shadrick do? Immediately call in his federal partners? Sure, that's what protocol demands.

But no - can't have that. The massive number of text messages if nothing else pointed too many fingers a few blocks down the street from John Davis's office (it having recently been moved several blocks south into much richer quarters -- another fraudulent story resides there but it pales in comparison to the raid on TANF dollars so save it for later) to the top floor of the Sillers Building. So Auditor White turns this over to the local District Attorney, refusing to associate the Federal U.S. Attorney who had a reputation that he would indict his mother if he found her to be guilty and Shadrick knew Hurst wouldn't stop from taking the elevator to the 20th floor and issuing his warrants.

So we have the wonderful family show - pitch Davis and New to the wolves, take a few other lower level staffers, and hope for the best. And it was working it seemed. The team went to work trying to get everybody's 'story straight' out of the BSS offices. Other disasters came into play - prison riots, tornados, COVID, COVID II - and nobody kept watching.

Except, it seems, Anna Wolfe. Hadn't heard much from her for a year or two. Yes, she often goes off and wants to taint her reporting with her liberal taint - and has done this somewhat in this wonderful bit of investigative reporting as she includes a paragraph here or there about the poor conditions of the folks that these TANF dollars were intended to address. But just as her digressing into that abyss so is my doing the same here.

Anna Wolfe somehow obtains text messages that aren't available through the normal Public Records Request process that covers public employees. And with those they more than double down on the ones contained in the filings of Campaign Manager/Auditor White.

Does this bring down Mississippi as you claim? Any more than the other scandals of this administration - MDOC and Chris Eppps? MDR and Dr. Walker? No. But those involved in the scandal did.

Who or what is 'Songy'?

Bryant ain't did nuthin' but read the Haley Barbour manual on 'How To Cash In While Leaving The Mansion'.

Anonymous said...

Totally agree with 8:49. We are all depending on auditor white here! He lied and covered this up. Young Shad just learned a lesson about honesty and doing what is right.

Anonymous said...

The texts came from one of the indicted defendants. The story says it was part of a cell phone dump done by State Auditor. Sounds to me like Feel saw writing on the wall with the million dollar family shenanigans. Feel turns in his boy Davis to his boy Shad and he becomes the “whistleblower”. One of the indicted co-defendants become angry because feel is the whistleblower and turns over a copy of the discovery. All the hand raisers lower their hands from the heavens yo pick fistfuls of mud.

Only serious question is how Shad will politically justify saving Feel. Sad end to a brimming career. Calling feel the whistleblower is akin to giving Cali a medal because you got an arrest in Medellin.

Anonymous said...

Mississippi - America's banana republic, without the bananas.

Anonymous said...

I too have wondered how Anna got these texts. If they came from Shad, I would think that’s a problem for him…..seems like he would be prohibited from providing details of an ongoing investigation to the media. But, he’s tried this entire case in the media from Day 1 and has used Anna Wolfe to do so, so who knows. Doesn’t appear to be Shad as it’s clear these texts incriminate Phil and make it look like Shad was covering for him. Is John Davis leaking them?

Anonymous said...

Farve is no doubt a very talented individual. Take that away and he is just plain old white trash.

Anonymous said...

Sanctimony is thick on this one KF. 650 word comments @ 4 in the morning? ROFLMAO

Anonymous said...

7:21 The text leak probably came from Favre himself. He’s the only one in the group chat that can prove he didn’t have “intent”. And after that despicable demand letter Shad sent, he wants to get his name back without going on record.
Feel is only taking because he’s scared of the Biden admin. If Trump were in office ol Feel would be on the beach.

It appears the Southern Mississippi university is well represented in this scandal. Do they offer classes in business ethics? If so, require it, if not, introduce it. I really don’t like seeing my tax money aiding and abetting these thieves.

Where is Lynn Fitch in all this? Where is Fitch in general? It doesn’t matter what Shad does if Fitch is not going to prosecute anyone not black or poor.

And don’t forget, the deputy AG was Phil’s Deputy chief of Staff

Yes Yes Yes we all know Bretts part but DHS has been under the scope for stealing damn near ALL of the Federal monies. Yes, the former Gov WAS IN on the scheme but so were the Dept heads at DHS. For all the posters saying Favre did nothing wrong, you are showing your blind allegiance to a person just because they have the same political philosophy as you. If this were a democrat doing and texting the same thing, you would be calling for arrest and prosecution.

For those saying Favre only took money given to him, you must have missed the solicitation of those funds:
“Hey brother Deanna and still owe 1.1 million on Vball,” Favre texted Davis, referring to his wife, Deanna Favre. “Any chance you and Nancy can help with that?

Truth is that if any one of us posters had done the same thing as Favre, we would have been arrested but since Favre is high in republican circles in a state run by republicans then Shad and Fitch are trying their hardest to ignore it. Since it is Federal money, I'm sure the Feds are investigating, but remember they didn't get any information until Shad had chosen the sacrificial lambs.

Kingfish said...

Kudos to Ms. Wolfe for getting the texts. She didn't get those texts from Shad. In fact, she filed a public records complaint against his office because she couldn't get them. However, they are probably covered by the investigative exemption. DHS or the Governor's office wouldn't have them all because some of those texts were between private individuals, not government officials.

Only parties who would have them all or those with subpoena power. DA isn't going to give them to her. Doesn't want to jeopardize his case and he is under a gag order. Feds wouldn't give them to her. Why? They just don't. Probably someone on the defense team or someone related to a defendant. As for Ms. Wolfe, good job. Doesn't matter where they came from, this is what a reporter dreams of when it comes to leaks.

Anonymous said...

8:44 - Fitch doesn't prosecute federal crimes.

Back to Anna: What two things does she have in common with Heraldo?

1) Both are extremely liberal.

2) Ain't neither one of 'em going to discover Hoffa's body, metaphorically speaking.

9:26, I read Gunslinger and I think Favre is an asshole. But I don't think he is more than 10% as guilty as Bryant. Read the latest article in Anna's series. She moves beyond the Brett Favre story and talks about Davis and the Dibiases. The story is not Favre.

Supposedly Mississippi is the most generous state (charity) and most corrupt. I guess the problem is that too many of the corrupt control where "charity" goes.

This sickens me. The claims of having Christian values and being involved in this. Lots of good Christians out there... just don't see any in this story.

Anonymous said...

@8:33 Vaught-Hemingway? Baby you should see what they were spending at Davis Wade. I wish I still had access to the numbers because I would send them straight over for KF to publish. It was for both DHS AND Families First and the cost per ‘ad’ was unreal. The poor dope selling the ads swore up and down it would increase engagement on social media, but the person in charge of social media at FF made it clear that the advertising had minimal impact. But, once the money leaves the agency, it has to be spent or it has to go back. That’s how you end up with so much bull shit spending in addition to the already stated embezzlement.

Anonymous said...

Wolfe is a good reporter but the notion that she represents a "free and vibrant press" is total folly.

Anonymous said...

That man was seen as a God in Wisconsin, when I lived up there 20 years ago people would ask do you Brett Favre? After a while I would respond yes, yes I do.
I wonder where all his money went he had a steakhouse up there, a stake in ORCA coolers, and a bunch of commissioned art work that was sold off.

Anonymous said...

What Money did Brett get. The money went to the drug company and for the volleyball center. Brett was paid 1 million to do ads, promotions and paid that back. Shad is chasing him for interest on the use of that money. SO I think Bretts reputation takes a hit but still don't see how he he does jail time.

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
