See the Post at Farish Street

The city of Jackson issued the following statement, video, and artist renderings of the new park development, the Post at Farish Street, today.

The City of Jackson is extremely excited to announce the details of a comprehensive economic development project in downtown Jackson.  “The Pulse at Farish Street” is a three-phased proposal to “activate” the 7.75 acres of space directly north of the Jackson Convention Complex.

Plans are to construct a community park that includes multiple pavilions, a stage, swings, and lawn space. A vendor park will consist of food trucks, a skate park with pickleball courts, other amenities, and a surface parking lot to accommodate 440 spaces.

The project aims to increase foot traffic and attract investment to the downtown area in the heart of the Capital City.  We want to thank Planning Director Jhai Keeton and the Office of Economic Development for their vision and look forward to continued development in the downtown area and across Jackson.

Didn't they already try to do a development around Farish Street that never got off the ground? I want to say they were talking about doing something big down there 10 years ago or so.... Didn't the developers say they couldn't deal with the city?

Que "The Villas at Kenny's" from South Park

The bums will take it over before you play a pickle ball game! Downtown of all places! it would be better to have it the Children's Museum area where it can be controlled.

“The Yacht at Biscayne Boulevard.”

Where did all the money go for the “first phase” of the Farish Street redevelopment project go? This is another boondoggle. Nothing like doubling down on stupid.

Lots of palm grease in those photos. Right Chowke?

Another "wag the dog" pipe dream to distract from Chowke's pending corruption charges. Right?

I have a genuine question, but I also already know the answer: Did adults come up with the idea for this development? I know they couldn’t have, because no serious-minded person could ever believe a concept like this would ever be viable in Jackson, MS. Some cities, yes, but NOT Jackson.

While I’m all about new development, I expect them to at least make sense. This one doesn’t. Not only is it situated in front of a convention center that loses money like a fire hose loses water, it’s, at the very least, taking up valuable parking area for the few events the convention center attracts. Plus, where will the convention center hotel be built? Oooops, too soon Chok?

Seriously, like the people who begged the City not to build the convention center in the first place (they were 100% right), I’m going on record stating this is a horrible boondoggle that will become nothing more than a crime-infested sleeping area. Hide and watch!

Is the FBI the prime mover and shaker in this development?

Sorry KF - trying to find a laughing out loud emoji big enough to satisfy a response, but for some reason my font sizes won't cover the page appropriately.
Those of us in the radical new city all wait to see this latest fantasy of Lumumba-land develops. Or actually, doesn't.

Has anybody noticed the improvement this will make to the now-famous Cigar Bar territory? Certainly can't be a coincidence.

When it comes to City projects the last few years aren't we always asking where did all the money go?

3:39 You are correct as that was the plan in early 2001 & never happened. Until a new mayor is in office & crime drops No One with good business sense would invest in the COJ!

Wonder what Dale got paid to render those beauties. The cost to build will be low considering those are popup circus pavilions.

Well, if World Government can use Orwell as a template for its worldshaping, then Jackson-Kush is entitled to use Southpark as inspiration in shaping its 'PapaChok BabyChok RukiChok Convention Center and Ancillary Delusional Activities Complex'.

The entire downtown Jackson strategy has been an unmitigated disaster for the past 30 years. The amount of money wasted putting lipstick on that pig is staggering. No objective analysis can demonstrate otherwise.

The blank field is where he wants to put Costco and Top Golf.

Dale probably hasn’t been paid.

@5:09 Jackson is using Animal Farm as a blueprint.

Unlike the "Farish Street Entertainment District" the city jivers may actually have access to some money to make this happen. At least phase one. It's not much when you consider food trucks (transient at best), movable pavillions (tents), pickleball courts (still parking spaces) and green areas (vacant lots). But when it's finished people will wonder where the money went.

Let's just say there's a reason Trustmark stopped rennovating their building.

Anonymous said...

First, why not spend the money improving infrastructure, fighting crime, controlling vagrancy, and maintaining existing attractions to see if that will get more people back downtown? Crazy...right?

Anonymous said...

Some developers from "up north" will be meeting with Chowke on a yacht on the Rez to discuss this project.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Those 200 people that live downtown are going to have plenty to do!!!

Anonymous said...

7:03. Let’s just say Trustmark never invests in Jackson at all. We’ve lost a lot of businesses but if there’s any bank that needs to leave it’s Trustmark.

Use to be this stuff was done with cardboard and glue. Now you can get Ai to put lipstick on a pig.

This PR stunt reeks of desperation and failure. What city places a skate park and pickle ball courts near a convention center? Skateboarding and pickleball won't attract many conventions. Loud skateboard music and conventions won’t work. I guess being sensible is too much to ask of individuals being investigated for bribery because they allegedly instructed city employees to moved deadlines for cash payments on a boat.

A food truck vendor park for the 200 people that live downtown that's definitely going to bring in the dollars and keep the convention center caterers working.

Remember this woke fantasy from the mayor and his woke cronies courtesy of the Jackson Free Press: https://m.jacksonfreepress.com/news/2018/jul/11/reimagining-9-acres-downtown/

This is not an urban solution to anything. It is actually a suburban-scaled scheme filled with low-or no-density development. Most architects can churn out renderings like this in a few days.

Let me get this jive right, economic development is skating, pickleball and food trucks. Have they passed a drug test?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
