The Justice Department issued the following statement.
Todd Gee, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, announced today his intention to resign his position as United States Attorney, effective 11:59 p.m. on January 17, 2025.
U.S. Attorney Todd Gee said: “The opportunity to serve as a United States Attorney in my home state of Mississippi has been the highest honor of my over 17 years of public service in the United States Department of Justice. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi is full of talented professionals dedicated to public safety, fairness, and the rule of law. It has been a great privilege to work with them and my other colleagues in the Department. I thank President Biden for nominating me as United States Attorney, and Attorney General Garland for leading the Department and supporting the Southern District of Mississippi during my tenure.”
Todd Gee was sworn in as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi on October 3, 2023. He has worked for the U.S. Department of Justice since 2007, including previously serving as a Deputy Chief of the Public Integrity Section in the Department’s Criminal Division and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia.
Kingfish note: From the Goon Squad to the Mayor, Mr. Gee did his job. A shame he can't hang around until the new U.S. Attorney is confirmed. Thank you for your service, Mr. Gee. It is very much appreciated.

I agree with KF: Gee has done a great job! Thank you for your service.
I assume they switch with each administration, but besides the obvious (a new job offer), is there a reason why he would leave before the new guy is named or put in place? (Like is there precedent that they always vacate early, etc.?) It just seems like most the staff won't change and MOST cases aren't political, so why not stick around?
It’s a smart move. The incoming president is a narcisstic convicted felon who demands loyalty. This is the antithesis of people with character and morals. One can only imagine the high crimes ahead of us.
So, the Mississippi Welfare Scandal investigation will stall.
As a footnote, the GOP held up his confirmation for the better part of two years.
Oh gee, I hate to see him go.
1:35 Under every new administration, the resignation is submitted as each person is appointed by the President as a courtesy .
His tenure has been marked by a commitment to the rule of law administered impartially. It seems to be his priority. He was a good choice. The next guy will have to demonstrate absolute loyalty to the boss as a first priority but we might also get lucky. Mississippi is not a battleground state so we might just get a guy who is just as impartial. Maybe. Fingers crossed.
Trump most all USA's during first week of last administration. There is no letting anyone hang around.
^^^^ Troll alert ^^^^ Fake news from MSNBC. DJT is not a convicted under NY law.
1:41 your are right referencing the welfare scandal. I see one individual allegedly involved in the national news a lot lately, kissing the ring!
Thank you Mr Gee for serving the administration, our country and state. KF is right that Mr. Gee handled the Rankin county mess well.
Who is the First Asst. USA?
#1, its not a "smart move" like you're saying its a move they all do when a new president comes in office. Plus, he was appointed by Sleepy Joe. Lets talk about your opinion about Trump being a narcissist. So when someone self -promotes themselves for the hard work and success they have achieved they are a narcists? So, Trump being confidence and his outspoken nature makes him a Narcissists? Jealous aren't we? You know what they say about opinions, they are like a## holes, everyone has one and they all stink. Later.
This might be bad news for the mayor. Had his case moved along a bit faster he might have snagged a pardon from Taliban Joe.
I understand the politics of his stepping down but man this just is going to delay the many ongoing federal cases even longer.
Agree, 1:35.
No troll, 2:51 with the original comment or with me.
And 3:45, are you alright? Trump IS a narcissist, does not work hard, is not successful on his own, and there is nothing of which to be jealous. And your last comment is just sick, gross and juvenile. Later.
I would never work in a Biden or Garland administration regardless of the position or the pay.
1:35. It warms my cockles to hear you grieve your historic loss. Drop to your knees and thank Gawd Trump is here to save the Country and vanquish the commies you roll with. Go eat a buzzard and take violin lessons so you can mourn and belch with dignity.
How did Gee get the job in the first place? Oh, almost forgot - Biden fired the republican incumbent as soon as he was sworn in.
I hope Mr. Gee can get square with his conscience and somehow justify having worked in the most corrupt Justice Department in the history of this Republic. I would rather drink ditchwater than admit that I answered to Merrick Garland for four years.
Several years ago, hardly a one of us had even heard the word narcissist. Now that it's become popular, half the population uses it without knowing its meaning.
Go eat a buzzard and take violin lessons so you can mourn and belch with dignity.
Pure poetry
BS. Hurst resigned. Demarca took over and served for two to three years.
3:45 Your English tells us all we need to know.
4:38 The word derives from Greek mythology. I don't believe the myth involved the word 'malignant,' so it wouldn't totally apply to Trump.
"Trump most all USA's during first week of last administration. "
Next time try it in English.
