Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith issued the following statement.
U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement regarding the possibility of being asked by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Secretary of Agriculture:
“It’s an honor to be mentioned as a potential nominee for Secretary of Agriculture, but my plans are to remain in the Senate and continue to deliver for the people of Mississippi. As a former state agriculture commissioner and with my current committee assignments, I remain wholeheartedly committed to the ag community, its growth, and its success. President Trump will always have my support, and I believe I can be most valuable to him and our country’s farmers and ranchers through my work in the U.S. Senate, particularly as we work toward a new farm bill and address other agricultural and economic issues. As I have stated previously, I plan to seek re-election in 2026.”

Very nice way to announce you didn't get picked
You weren't asked. Plus you voted for Thune.
Mississippi's only conservative US Senator.
5:15- first part true. Second part not relevant.
She wasn't asked, wasn't going to be asked. This is all a Mississippi story, not a DC one. But, she is a loyal Trumpite, worked hard for his election, and will be a valuable ally of his in the Senate.
If she wanted to leave the Senate for a lower level than Secretary, she could probably have it. But most Senators, especially those low in seniority but on Approps and a buddy of POTUS, would rather stay in the Senate than take a two year stint before being fired and out.
Thune is a good man. Here is yet another example of some delusional person who thinks that it is they alone who understands what it means to be a Republican. Please learn a lesson from the Dems about being so dogmatic. It’s a big country out there and there ain’t but two parties.
Thune is a RINO. He is part of the swamp. It is what it is, and that is why she voted for him. Its all personal agenda, not the betterment of America.
5:56, Thune is a good man if you believe the status quo that brought America to point of $35T+ in debt (but who's counting?); disastrous foreign wars and various unnecessary, smaller interventions; along with the constitutional catastrophe o.k.a. the "wahr on druugz"; a border invaded by every lowlife from south america and hostile eastern nationals was "good." But some of us disagree.
Here is yet another example of some delusional person who thinks ... Please learn a lesson ...
YYaaawwwnnnnn, SSSsssnnnorreee, ZZZzzzzZZZzz
6:55 and others love to use the term RINO for anyone with a half degree different view than Trump. It’s played. Meanwhile they’ll hail Gaetz the king of grifters as the savior of justice.
Thune and Cornyn are the favorite Republican senators of the Democrats.
I'm quite doubtful that Trump would ask CHS for this or any such position.
There has to be room for everybody. People who tell Republicans that they aren’t welcome unless you act and think a certain way will go the way of the Tea Party. Blue dogs and Yellow dogs meet Establishment vs MAGA. RINO is a stupid term.
Who put you in charge of party dogma? Settle down. It’s a big world out there.
