Mayor Holds Regular Briefing

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his regular press conference right now.  The presser is streamed below.

* The Jackson Zoo hosted a "very successful" Ice Cream Safari.  Saturday is Legislator Day at the zoo.  Legislators and politicians are invited to come to the Jackson Zoo.  The city will ask them for more help in supporting the zoo.

Mayor Lumumba said the zoo is over 200 acres.  He claims those supporting moving the zoo want to move it into a 50 acre zoo.  The Mayor either has his facts wrong or is lying as he often makes up facts as he goes along.  The Jackson zoo is 50 acres but the land used is only 33 acres.  The proposed site at Lefleur's Bluff is only 25 acres.

* Jackson has a sister city agreement with Rio Negro, Columbia.  Smith-Wills deadbeat Tim Bennett lauded the "social and cultural experience".    The agreement will bring Columbian baseball players to Jackson.  Mr. Bennett also said they will be working to bring more cargo traffic to Gulfport from Columbia.

* Mayor Lumumba said the city "owns" Smith-Wills Stadium.  Hizzoner said Mr. Bennett has made $3 million in improvements to Smith-Wills Stadium.  He claimed the previous management group did not have to share any revenue with the city.  However, the Mayor did not mention anything about Mr. Bennett's failure to pay any of his rent of the stadium.

A reporter asked Mr. Bennett about his failure to pay rent.  Mr. Bennett said a storm came through that blew down a wall.  It took six months to repair the wall.  The stadium also shut down for water distribution.   He said he just made a payment on the amended lease.

The Mayor said Mr. Bennett had every right to pursue a parking contract with the VA.  Hizzoner said the agreement required him to purchase busses for shuttle service.  "Once again, he has demonstrated his acumen here," said Mayor Lumumba.

* The city received a Federal Transit Authority Award of $13.7 million to JATRAN's fleet.

* The State of the City address will be held on October 10.  The city invites Jackson restaurants or vendors to set up booths at the address.  Email media@jacksonms.gov.

* A reporter asked about the termination of water services for non-payment at Jackson apartment complexes.  The Mayor launched a discussion on why the city created a rental registry.

* A reporter asked about his reaction to the attempted assassination of former President Trump and Congressman Thompson's remarks about the event.  He called it tragic.  The Mayor said any conversation about the Congressman and his staffer is "above my pay grade."

Can you please add a note to every one of these if Chokwe hid in a coat closet or the rest room during the Pledge of Allegiance?
Thanks

He sounds like the 5 year old kindergarten room leader pointing out the tables that need crayons, pencils sharpened and more table wipes.

"Hizzoner said Mr. Bennett has made $3 million in improvements to Smith-Wills Stadium"

BULL F'ING SH!T

If so, let's see the receipts. I know what $3mil in constructions projects look like and Smith Wills Stadium isn't one. Now, he may have paid someone $3mil for the kickback, and it may be labeled as renvations on the balance sheet, but no way in hell he's spent $3mil on that dump. Not a chance.

"more cargo traffic to Gulfport from Columbia."

I couldnt help but chuckle at the implications.

$3 million, if it actually exists, is one half of $6 million which is what the lease required him to make. So not only can it not count as payment in lieu of lease payments, he is in default of the lease by $3 million in capitol expenditures.

Time for the state to move forward with its cancellation of the lease with the City, and then lets watch Bennett start jumping through some real hoops - that can't be feathered with a little side hustle.

Lumumba just loves the sound of his own voice.

Just keep the legislators out of the snake exhibit, for obvious reasons.

"Mayor said any conversation about the Congressman and his staffer is 'above my pay grade.'" Does that include the grifts?

I swear I can see his nose growing every time he talks.

Let me think, what is Colombia world infamous for?

They obviously are getting some “real benefits” from having the zoo here. Why else would they let those starving, unmedicated animals suffer unnecessarily. Virtually nobody goes any more, and the area is more dangerous than a prison. Why not convert it to a prison?

"$3 million in improvements" sounds like a classic "money laundering" scheme. Hello FBI? IRS?

$3M in improvements? What did he do, paint the place with gold?

There's also no way the zoo would be able to be moved to LeFleur's Bluff because it's not factored into the expansion plans for the area that have been underway now for over a year.

I appreciate you correcting the mayor, Kingfish, but you should also amend your comment to include that the move to LeFleur's Bluff isn't even a possibility at this point.

Thomas Sowell explains why people vote for liars like Chowke, and he even mentions Detroit, substandard schools, etc.

Watched local news last night and saw Tim Bennett promoting events at Smith Wills for next year. How is he even in the picture? No lease payments-BS $3MM improvements. Does no one care? Well I just answered my own question.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
